Mr Winslow is a great guy and a credit to Jimmy. Jim and Marcus were practically brothers. You can really see the special bond Mr Winslow and Jimmy had by viewing the trips of Jimmy's last trip home in the winter of '55. They were almost 13 years apart in age (Jimmy was born in February 1931, Mr Winslow in November 1943), but you would not think it given that Jimmy was very much a kid at heart himself. Thank you for your kindness to us, Mr Winslow. You're a true gentleman. RIP, Jimmy. Your films will live on.
*He packed so much into a short life. You can tell he was a special/original person just by the items he left behind. Wish we the public could have had more time with him to enjoy his craft and get to know him better. From all I've seen about him, it seems people have his characters mixed up with the real-life Jim Dean. Seemed like a real nice regular American boy compared to a lot of his more pompous peers of the time.* *A big infulence I've seen from him was that he was so young (and had a larger than life persona) was kind enough to be very open. thoughtful, and teaching with his friends and co-workers which in-turn carried his legacy onto other generations of actors. A beautiful life, no matter how short it was.*
I never knew Jimmy attended his prom. It would be cool to be the woman who can say her prom date was the legendary James Dean. He lived more in 24 years than most people (including me) have in 50 plus years. RIP, King Dean.
I was just there three weeks ago and this is a great tour of the museum. Marcus did a nice job. That 1955 Triumph motorcycle had been sold multiple times before Marcus tracked it down many years later with a private investigator, checked the serial number and bought it back for the museum. On display was Jimmie's biography of Pancho Villa that the sign said he read during the filming of Giant. On the inner leaf is a simple pencil drawing he made of a bull's head. I was struck by the boldness of his strokes and the simplicity of the lines. There is no sketching, nothing tentative. Simple curved pencil lines that reveal a bull. It is quite striking. I recommend anybody interested in James Dean visit Fairmount and the Museum.
Amazing memorabilia beautifully preserved and displayed. I’ll never be able to visit so this is the nearest l will ever get to seeing James’ artefacts, thank you for taking the time, much appreciated
i'm so glad marcus has done such a great job preserving his cousin's legacy! all these vids really humanize 'jimmy' from 'james dean'...very interesting and insightful!
Marcus. I want to say thank you for sharing your memories . In the end memories are all we really have left. I hope who ever inherits his things after you has the same kind of connection and treasures them as you have.
His memory is always alive. Glad to see so many things in his life are carefully preserved too. I'm glad people worked hard to make it happen. Who is responsible for this wonderful exhibit?
One half of my family is from Lima,Ohio - just 83mi. from Marion,Indiana! I have always felt a strong connection with this man"Strange the more I age the more I find looking back synchronicity between my life and his"! May God bless the family and memory of James Byron Dean! I wish I could visit this place some day. . . Mr.Winslow is one of the last tangible people to know James personally and I want to meet him!
Rode my motorcycle there last weekend, highly recommend going, two museums both with cool people working at them, you feel the vibe, probably go to the festival next month
I lived in Fairmont when I was in High School. Went to Madison-Grant. We had hop dances at the Jr. High which used to be the High school in Jimmy's day. I never knew who he was till one day in the library when I was a freshman I was looking through a movie star book and there he was. Of course all the other kids already knew. I had just moved there the previous summer. During that year they showed the entire school East Of Eden in the Auditorium. My day had met and knew the Winslows - The foster parents and relatives of Jimmy. This was all in the early 70's There were no tourist info around Fairmont that I remember. Went back around 5 years or so ago and it was everywhere. Nice area around there used to swim in a gravel pit called Clear Water park. Fun Times and lots of HS basketball. Argyle Country.
Indiana, it's farm county out there even till this day I was there setting up that Commercial laundry in mid mate 80"s there was literally 'nothing in town , a few store fronts and a diner we ate at,, that's I'm sure changed but when the JD annual festival comes alive , it's rocking for 4 day weekend.
I remember the picture of James Dean, pushing his cousin in his little car, so much time as passed,I have just seen something on James Dean it was excellent,it was on TH-cam,and it's called two ghost, look it up!!!!🤗🇬🇧
+UAW I was there last September. I plan on stopping in Fairmount every labor day weekend on my way home from Indy. All these years and I never knew this was his hometown.
VI OS DOIS FILMES DESTE GRANDE ARTISTA QUE JÁ NÃO ESQUECEU GOSTEI DO ENREDO BEM REPRESENTADO FOI PENA PERDER TÃO CEDO UM TALENTO DO CINEMA ANOS CINQUENTA,
I hope you'll open up your house sometimes, It's a shame that people used to steal things and walk right up to the door and demand to get in. I'm waiting for the houese to be open at least a few days a year.
James Dean came across as a tortured and misunderstood soul; an outsider looking for a place to fit in and be valued and loved. The fact that this man, a talented, successful and handsome actor went to watch bullfights doesn't quite fit with this persona. Bullfighting is not a fight at all, but the ritual torture killing of a frightened creature by a group of thugs.Bulls are tortured 2 days prior to the fight. They are kept in a dark boxes for 2 day to disorientate them; vaseline is smeared in their eyes to half blind them, they are fed laxatives and salt water to dehydrate them, pins are stuck in their genitals and their bones are broken. When they enter the ring they think their ordeal is over and they are running to freedom - instead face a jeering crowd, baying for their blood. Men on horseback named picadors plunge spears into their neck muscles to weaken them. Then men plunge baderillas (brightly coloures spears) into them. The matador kills the bull at the end by stabbing him in the neck - the bull vomits blood. The dead bull is dragged away by horses. Horses enter the bullrings pouring with sweat and trembling with fear. They are blindfolded, cotton wool is stuffed in their ears and noses and their vocal chords are cut so they are unable to scream in pain if they are gored. They are deprived of all their senses. Horses are often gored by the bull; their are times when their intestines fall out of their stomachs and hang around their legs. Their intestines are crudely stitched back in. Horses in bullrings are old and have come to the end of their working lives; their reward for serving man faithfully and uncomplainingly is to end their days in the bullring. Bulls are not aggressive creatures and only fight back because they have been tortured. I believe that any person who can take pleasure in watching such groteque cruelty must have something seriously mentally wrong with them. It is ironic that Mr Dean died a horrific death in the car accident, his body broken and bloody. An end similar to that of the bulls he watched getting killed. Dean did not die immedately so would no doubt have suffered before he did die. I can't say that I feel sorry for this man. Donald Turnupseed did not intentionally kill Dean - the bulls are intentionally tortured and killed by matadors. I believe in the afterlife Dean came face to face with the bulls he watched being tortured and killed and came face to face with the pain he caused. I found the bullfighting relics included in the memorabelia highly offensive.
I could never get into James Dean. His constant chain smoking put me off. He was the poster child for the tobacco industry. He may have been cool back then, but times have changed. Just the same, a tremendous talent who died before his time.

Marcus does an excellent job keeping Jimmys spirit alive...
Why You said That???
Dean was fortunate to have a fine man for a cousin, very respectful and loving, excellent
Lucky to be James Deans cousin, i love how his family preserved his legacy.

I was born in 1953 and have vague memories of James Dean, however I purchased a couple of his movies and now I'm a big fan, what an amazing actor.
I was born in 1954 and since he died when I was ONE YEAR OLD, I have no memory of him!

The 55 Triumph motorcycle is a work of art. I just visited the museum a few days ago...It still looks like something that would sell in todays market.

A bizarre coincidence: The Villa Capri Restaurant, his favorite Hollywood hangout, was bulldozed in 2005, 50 years after James Dean's death.

what
this is one Lucky Cousin..living his life off of his cousin Jimmy...
He is not living off of his cousin. He did not sell one thing of James Dean, in fact, he actually bought back some of his belongings.
I could never get into James Dean. His constant chain smoking put me off. He was the poster child for the tobacco industry. He may have been cool back then, but times have changed. Just the same, a tremendous talent who died before his time.
