Short, simple, straight to the point, no bullsht. Thats what most production related channels are missing. Thanks Yan, as much as it was a pleasure to hear you live before in Budapest you continue to bring joy constantly with these videos and gotten even closer to my heart as an artist with these.
Thanks for making such nice no bullshit "hi guys" trying to sell me something videos. You always share amazing info in such a great compact format. LEGEND!
Always on top in the Techno Scene. Not only cool recordings, but videos too. Thanks Yan!!! Always impatiently waiting for your videos! I move the same way as you, but I'm at the beginning))
Another tips; i think put distortion or overdrive bring more harmonics on sub, so you can cut high frequencies without worrying about about cutting high frequencies. So the Subs always feels full*. For me at least =)
Really fantastic info. Love these vids! So @YanCook , you dont roll off around 30hz to remove the inaudible stuff down there and lower the load on your mastering chain?
Awesome tutorial! A noob question but if you have time to respond I would like to ask you below, - Are these low ends include both Kick and Bass? - If yes, do you group them midi tracks together and add these chains or processed in a single audio track? thank you!!
When you say that you keep the signal at -18, that seems quite low even for a dry kick and sub. What is the volume difference between the kick and the sub? Curious how you manage the signal and keep it at -18, do you put a utility as a first plugin on the group before the processing? Also you say that you keep the low end group at -6, but the meter shows the peak at -0.1. Is that the meter from the master channel, showing the volume after your master chain? Sorry for multiple questions :)
the lower -18 value is often the "starting point", as many analog modelled plugins are calibrated to (-18dBFS = 0VU). many people, as well as the plugins, allow for a different calibration point (ie; some people prefer a bit hotter calibration point of -14dBFS = 0VU, etc.) calibration is so that signals may be processed with more headroom available, so that when summed together, they don't clip the master buss. higher calibration points (such as -14, -12, -10, etc.) can also change how processors "color" the sound, often heard in analog modelled stuff. to keep the level going out, relatively the same as the level coming in, utility (clip gain) plugins can be used as the first insert of a mixer channel, as well as in-between each processor (assuming the plugins don't have built-in gain staging in & out controls). this way you keep your levels similar & you aren't "tricked" by hearing a louder processed signal as being "better" than the quieter unprocessed signal. individual channels "can" clip, as well as bus/aux groups, but the master should be kept from clipping. also, this usually only applies to "peak" levels, as the "perceived/average loudness" of the sound may differ from the peak level greatly (which is why so many people use clippers on stuff like drums & percussion) hope this helps
I don't think it's necessary, you can't hear those frequencies and it can affect the kick's transient, but sometimes I do that, if the kick is too muddy. I recommend trying it, it may sound better in some cases.
On the drum buss does the frequency dial show the cut off? so freq below 54 hz arent being affected? or is that the focus area? i've always been wary of driving super low end frequencies bc of distortion. killer video thanks!

So good! Also highly recommend the Scenes channel for more quick and effective tutorials :)
Your videos, instead of causing confusion, explain things in an easy and precise manner. Thank you for your content, keep it up.
Thanks for making such nice no bullshit "hi guys" trying to sell me something videos. You always share amazing info in such a great compact format. LEGEND!
Yan puts out a video, I call out of work. That simple.
Your videos are hands down the best on TH-cam
5 minutes of absolute gold right here. Legend Yan Cook, thank you so much man.
Interesting to see that you go that hard with Drum Buss. Also the sin fold curve sounds amazing
That's amazing. Purely surgical adjustments that made a whole lot of difference

My fave techno producer
this is rly cool. for future reference, it would be great to hear this in the context of a full mix as well
Yeah, I should've done that, it sounds great when you fill up the spectrum.
My track 'Reason' has similar low end, it's in my latest hour.
Thank you so much!!
Good stuff. This Helped me clean up the BD so good. Thanks!
Thanks Yan, Your videos are amazing and selfless.
Thank you
Great ! A nice evolution from something like Plot , which is a favorite of mine with a simple but effective kick .. This is next level for sure ..
Perfect content, straight to the point, thanks for sharing your experience
This is awesome, thanks!
woow how do you take the low end so goood ?
Good video. I prefer the 1st option. Again thaks for sharing.
I would love to see a tutorial about how you made this loop :D
wow drum buss’ drive actually sounds great at lower inputs!
What's that metering suite you show at 1:15?
T-Racks Metering.
thanks master!!
Another tips; i think put distortion or overdrive bring more harmonics on sub, so you can cut high frequencies without worrying about about cutting high frequencies. So the Subs always feels full*. For me at least =)
1st distort
2nd LP and mud EQ
3d compress to form Transient
4th Tape (anti digital)

Sometimes I cut, sometimes I don't)
Please make a Tutorial for Kickdesign
great stuff, subscribed
Amazing, thank you
thanks

Low End is everything from 0 to around 250hz, and yeah, I keep Kick and Sub/Bass on separate tracks and then group them together for processing.
@@YanCook I appreciate your explanation, it's great to know how things are done. Thanks!
cool, but why did you just cut at 64hz?
So important that Low end.. Nice video again how to ... What is the plug in you use for metering?
T-Racks Metering.
Nice, which analyser is the one at @1:15? Thks
Izotope Ozone
It's T-Racks Metering.
@@YanCook amazing thks man
Amazing Yan!! What's the name of that beautiful metering plugin?
T-Racks Metering.
@@YanCook really cool! Looks like a good alternative to Spectre *.*
i always put an amp on the whole drumbus 😄
Amazing
great!
great video! why do you cut the fundamental frequency a little bit with an EQ? would that not remove some of the punch? cheers
Because it's the lightest way to hit the -8RMS target without touching the Boom knob))
@@YanCook thanks for the response - good to know!
Hey. What's is that plugin you using (on top)?

It's the focus area of the Boom parameter.
🖤
HI Yan !
what is this plugin for measuring db rms levels, frequency spectrum etc?
T-Racks Metering.
@@YanCookwhere is the metering? After the master chain???ty
What could be used instead of drum bus
Compression, EQ, Saturation, Transient Shaping.
Horrible delay on the kick...WHY ???
🫶🏼🔥
Hey Yan, is this applied on top of Group Kick Processing? As shown in th-cam.com/video/icKYXq5PIA8/w-d-xo.html
Awesomeness! Are you using sends to make then Mono? Thanks again 🎉
I don't use sends.
