Stuff like Gillian's Wonderland closing down after such a long, long time shouldn't be allowed. :-(
All good things must come to an end :c
to be replaced with wallmart 🤣🤣
I agree.
I made the Monkey band for Wonderland almost 50 years ago. And will never forget the great times at Wonderland
More corporate greed instead of fun :(
This deserves to be made a historical landmark, town council!!
It does for sure after 100 years of service it shouldn't be allowed to close it should be added to the historical registry.
Jacob, I want to thank you for the final tribute to this wonderful landmark. Having gone there many years with my children and grandchildren brought back so many memories and tears. Was hoping to return again this year but fate and health plotted against that. Love watching your content and again thank you for what you do, you are truly a special person.
Way to high for me
What a shame. Future generations should be able to visit this. Thank you Jacob for documenting this treasure.
@@aavalett Yeah!
Never got the chance. Sad to see it go. Piece of Americana right there.
Rip to Gillian's wonderland 😞😞
This was a wonderful way to document Gillian's for history's sake.
That is sad after 94 years Gillian is going away, I'm not from the north so I heard of it, glade you show us this place, it looks like a children's Palace lol. Thanks for sharing this, you have fun. I hope Jenny is doing well and still with you on the trip.🤓📸
What a thoughtful and classy move to go through the Dark Ride a second time without commentary...bravo!
It’s so sad to see a theme park that’s been around here for almost a century having to go for nothing more than hotels and such. It’s officially the end of an era
I heard about Gillian's Wonderland closing on my local news, and I was sad about it. My family and I will always go by there whenever we go on the boardwalk. Hope someone buys it in the future, Jacob.
The land is already owned by a hotel developer. Sorry, I don't like it either.
@@1972Ray Me too
I hate news like this as well.... It's unfair how a wonderful theme park like this one is closing ..
@@Midnighthauntt Me too
Such sad news, my whole channels based on wonderland and the animatronic band, I’m going on Monday and I’ll be going the last day of its operation
This video highlights the importance of what you do, Jacob! Thank you for it all!
Not gonna lie this one got me in the feels. Thank you for documenting this place. It was magical to see it through your eyes.❤❤
Gillians is definitely a special place. Generations of kids experienced their very first rides there, myself included. This news is a bitter pill to swallow for anyone who grew up spending fun filled summer evenings at Wonderland Pier.
I hope they relocate the great haunted house they have there, or at least use the props in another one.
The land is owned by a resort company, it will be a hotel.
There's a lot of great classic rides at this park! It's certainly a major part of the boardwalk history. Hopefully, someone will buy it and keep it intact. if not I do hope these rides and especially, the carousel find new homes.
I'm not a commentor but I have to tell you just how very much I enjoy your programs. You are always at great sites and even make the educational ones interesting and fun! I have been sharing your adventures for so long now, I feel like we are old friends and I enjoy your daily visits. God bless you.
So many things in my lifetime closed or closing I thought would be around long past me. Thanks for you visit there for us.
You did us dirty with the log ride. POV the whole way. Here comes the drop! (Flips camera around) 😂
This was my childhood. ALWAYS loved to do the brass rings when I was there. So every time you do them in these videos this right here is what I think of. Pretty sad its closing. Have not been there since I was little but would have loved to go one last time. 😕
Sad this is closing. The singing animatronics make me so happy. ❤
Nice to see you in Ocean City. Sad to see the place go. You never know when things will be gone. That’s why it’s good that us vloggers are here to document things they may not exist forever. At least we give our experience to future generations.
Yay new carpetbagger upload!
Gillian's is awesome. So sad.
I don’t want this classic amusement park to be gone!
Talk to the owner, he's retieing
It's so sad to see places like that close 😞, great video Jacob, until the next one take care my friend and as always safe travels.
Thank you for all the content, i look forward every day to watching all of your adventures!
Did you notice that one of the headstones in the Dark Ride had Bill Tracy's name on it?
Gosh. This is sad, especially for the beautiful dark ride :(
Thanks for this video! I use to go here with my family when I was very little. I remember that train but almost forgot all about it until I saw this
Jacob, you speak the truth…enjoy while you can, nothing lasts forever.
Thank you for sharing. It’s so sad it’s going to be torn down! Looks like so much fun.
Come on man, I loved their animatronics the most, and that's because whenever I go down there I only go in there for them.
And the vintage kiddie rides are great as well.
Hi! I just received your Carpetbagger pressed penny and Carpetbagger face pin and postcard, I like them all! I so do enjoy your vlogs as well, amusement parks are always fun. Say "hi" to Jen for me! 🎉
Jacob this was my first Ocean City visit. So sad to see it come to an end. Can you imagine generation after generation the fun visitors had..
🎡 Waynesville North Carolina needs a giant Carpetbagger Wheel 🎡
Thanks for making the video. How ironic some of your classic creations may outlive you.
Kudos to your TH-cam Channel, Jacob! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 It's really sad that Gilligan's Wonderland is closing after 94 years. 😢
Thank you for sharing this! It’s so sad! I have been a OCNJ renter for years and i feel so saddened by this!
soo many wonderful beautiful memories as a child there spending vacations in ocnj. Gillians you will be missed big time!!
Love this video carpetbagger and look after yourself health wise plus your t shirt looks amazing too.
Good Evening Jacob 🙋🏽
Thank you for preserving these places in your videos. I remember when you went to world of illusions and even though it was a little corny, I wanted to go so bad if I ever made it to Gatlinburg. I was very sad when you said it was gone, but I'm glad you showed the experience in your videos
Jacob, my husband and I were there yesterday! I’m so sorry we missed you. Wonderland Pier played a big part in our children’s lives when went down the shore every summer. I’m praying someone will buy it and keep it going. The Big Wheel is iconic to the Ocean City skyline.
Good morning Jacob
Been there since I was a baby, I am going to miss Wonderland a lot!
Thanks for the adventure
The only thing we can count on in this life is change. I’m glad you got to visit one more time :)
i'm going one final time in October, to say goodbye to this amazing place. This place has been a big part of my life!
Last summer I met with some family at Ocean City for a day trip. Where we parked we just so happened to walk right by Gillian's while entering the beach. Some of our group had to stop for the bathroom nearby (you can see it at 25:54 ), so my brother and I were standing next to this place for a while reminiscing on it. Glad I got to see it again before it closed
thanks for the NJ videos, I've been away from the NJ shore too long. I have great childhood memories of going to the boardwalk and the old-school arcades, very sad to see another closing. After watching these I want waffles and neopolitan ice cream.
We used to go there almost every summer when we were growing up😢. It never really changed, either. Good times.
This place is wonderful and it looks like it is popular hopefully someone will take it over and save it! Thanks for sharing today
Very nice and awesome cool
I had never heard of this place before this video and now I want to join the effort to save it.❤❤❤❤❤
Good Morning " YA ALL " Jacob the Carpetbagger..@@
It sad after all these years things have to end. A nice place for people to enjoy.😊
This breaks my heart. Never got a chance to go there. This should not have to close . Someone needs to buy and keep it open😢
I am so sad that Giilian's is closing. We vacation every year at Ocean City, but we couldn't get there this year because we took my daughter to college. She practically grew up on the boardwalk and Gillians was a big part of that. I love Dark Ride and I hope it gets preserved somehow!
You should check out Nauticus in Norfolk VA. I've been there a couple times and it's really fun.
Nauticus is under major renovation. I was just there in June. Some of the remodeled area is open and it looks pretty good!
That’s for sure! Stuff like that should be preserved
Great video of paying tribute to Wonderland, this place has a special place in my heart as this is where I rode my very first ever amusement park rides and as a few month old baby my very first ride was on the carousel where dad held me while the ride was in motion. Mom has a picture of it somewhere. My first ever ride as a little kid that could walk was the little boat ride and firetrucks so many memories made here. It was my dads side of the family's tradition to ride the Giant Wheel every year and I've continued that tradition every year so when I go back in about 3 weeks I will get my final ride on it. Watched your video as also a way to get ideas for my tribute/farewell video. Thank you. Those animatronics when I was a kid I was very terrified of them. Ah, I am really going to miss this gem of a place on the boardwalk. I'd imagine right now the rides are up for sale. Hopefully a lot of them if not all end up being relocated. People on OCNJ social media pages...mostly Instagram people are saying #Saveferris so hopefully that could be saved and stays on the island. I kind of hope Playland would remove their Ferris Wheel and then relocate Giant Wheel to there. I had no idea they had a mini golf course.
Thank you for this. Gillian’s was a staple of my childhood. I’m so bummed it is closing but from what I understand it was starting to really get run down over the past few years. Either way, thank you for bringing attention to its legacy. It will always live on in everyone’s memories!
I’m early in this video ❤
Thank you for documenting Gillian's, Jacob! Grateful for your videos :)
This is extremely unfortunate. I literally dedicated my channel to the man and dog (animatronic band) and Wonderland as a whole! I'm going in October to say one final goodbye to this amazing place! Can't believe its closing :( At least the man and dog will be saved tho
First Asbury Park and now Ocean City. I'm beyond sad!
At least we still have Seaside Heights and Wildwood!
Glad we had it as long as we did.
We just came from there tonight. We went one final time with our kids to experience the rides and say goodbye. A beautiful piece of history is coming to an end.
Going to miss this place. We go with my family almost every Summer. We live about 45 minutes away. I will always remember fun times with my family. I don’t think I will make it before it close.
i've been going every summer for a few years, its really sad. The place was a big part of my life
you were putting the dollar in the wrong way jacob it needs to line up like the picture haha love you're content
Soooooo many fond memories of Gillian's Wonderland as a kid and as an adult with my kids. Thank you for this video, Jacob!
Roy Gillian, founder of Wonderland and former mayor, died Aug 9 at the age of 94. The amusement park opened in 1965.
Wonderland has been operating for 94 years.
That's just a damn shame they're closing after almost a hundred years. But why? Is there park loosing money? Are they being forced out by some (Explicitive Deleted) greedy developers? What's going on? Places like that are absolute treasures, and are getting few and far between these days. Sigh. Also, the animatronic band kicked off my intrusive thoughts again, but I managed to keep a cork on them this time, so, yay me!
Nothing lasts forever but you never know if something more fun will be put in the place of it
Perfect example of "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot." Places like this should be Historically preserved, not torn down. Shame.
😞Carpetbagger says his final goodbyes to Gillian's.
This is my childhood. I remember we would start at Gillian's and I couldn't ride the rides until my family (including 2 grandmothers) walked down to where the stores ended and back. It was a lesson in patience and the fun of anticipation.
Cedar Fair should buy this place, it is history and good clean American Amusement and really historical. No reason to destroy this place it must be preserved for future generations to come to see and enjoy. Someone must buy it a preserve it.
It’s probably already sold-a shopping center or hotels probably will replace it 😢
Me and my first just visited this place today on 9/8/2024, thanks to your video. This place is awesome and it's sad to see it go and I live in the Midwest.
At last the famous carpet badger cameraman finally revealed! Thank jacob!
I'm loving your New Jersey series this year, Jacob!
I don't know why Gillian's made the decision to close. I wish some other amusement company would just buy it outright and keep this classic alive. 😢
Very sad. Will probably be sold to a developer to destroy it and build high priced condos. Should be a law against that.
We are loosing all are classic places we need to protect these gems for the future generations
I have fond memories of ice skating in January
on a rink that was made inside.
My grandpa used to take me and my sister here when we were kids. I wanted to one day take children of my own, its a shame that its gone for good, it will be missed!
A sad loss..........older people will remember the good times there......the young will never know what joy was to be had. 😥
my grandfather used to own a house in ocean city, so ive been going there since i was born and was just at Gillians a few weeks ago to get a final ride on the log flume. Its a huge shame to see an iconic place like this close down, especially since relatively speaking they just recently cleaned up the towers at the entrance
This breaks my heart I grew up near by and went to ocean city high school literally right around the corner my senior trip was literally to wonderland
I live 30 mins from here, grew up in the area, but I'm just now realizing I've never been on that train.
Guess what McDonald's Happy meal has hello Kitty dress up in Yu-Gi-Oh and they come with every Happy meal
It will be a major loss for Ocean City not to have this amusement park. Ocean City has always been noted for being a family friendly place to vacation. However without an amusement park it will leave a major reason not to vacation there. Children and many adults want a fun amusement park or pier to have some summer fun. Replacing this attraction with either a hotel or more condos will not help keep families coming. It may even hurt the city’s tax income if less people choose to vacation there. Thanks for the tour of the park. I see why you liked that dark ride so much. It was one of the few you have shown us that has well light scenes. Many dark rides only light up the item quickly and you may not really see the scene that well. On this ride you could clearly see each scene and yet sill be surprised as to what may happen. Like you said if this park does close down I hope many of the rides find good new homes at other locations.
I live near there
In ocean view
So sorry for your loss
My mom is 69 years old and I'm 50 (will be 51 in November) and her parents used to take her all of the time to this pier and in turn she took me all of the time too. We were so sad when it was announced that it was being sold and closing. We will miss it so much! I don't know if we'll get out to OC again this year (we were there earlier a couple of times this year already...we're about a half hour ride to OC) but I hope we can make it out one last time?! We can't really go on the rides any more due to getting dizzy, etc. but I would like to walk around there again but your video is helping with that. Thanks for doing this video!
Thanks for visiting that place and giving it a nice tribute one last time. I live in NJ but never went there, though.
Sad it is closing it looks like such a cool place to visit
Wow what a trip down memory lane thank you so much it's almost as if I was there myself. We used to spend every summer there when I was a child 57 years ago that place is amazing it said that they're closing considering they've owned that land for 100 plus years so it's not a rent thing it's probably just things are expensive now and it probably doesn't make in as much money as it used to in the past when I used to go there in the 60s and the 70s thanks again for showcasing this wonderful Ocean City amusement park.
Thank’s for the video, Jacob. For the past 10 years we’ve had our family vacations in a rental house a block from Wonderland. It makes us sad to see it go. This video will be a wonderful memory of it.
Never been however hearing that Gillian wonderland in shutting down saddings me
Jay Littleton Ball Park (a filming location) burned down just other day
Hi Jacob so sad when things end... However at least you always have the memories XXX
8:08 Ouch!!!!
