Male Lion Doesn't Want Lioness Near His Two Brothers | Kruger National Park South Africa

- The 3 Mjejane male lions in the company of a lioness in the Kruger National Park South Africa.
The lighter maned Mjejane male lion was coupled up with a lioness along the S118. The lion couple spent a few days together with his two darker maned brothers nearby.
Having seen the couple the day before we headed back there early morning, we located the couple a few hundred meters from the previous days location.
A short while after, the two darker maned brothers joined the couple in close proximity. The lighter maned male was not necessarily impressed with the presence of his brothers and every time the lioness got up he ensured she did not head in the direction of his brothers.
These lionesses spend most of their time around Ampies and are often found in the company of the 3 Mjejane male lions. While the Mjejane males have sired many cubs over the last few years, we hope to see some more in the coming months.

Very relaxed brothers around a mating couple. No wonder these boys are such a strong coalition, they are incredibly tolerant of each other.

Look how impressive T has become. While we've been focused on his two more eye catching brothers, T has been bulking up behind the scenes and now looks like he'll be the largest as the years go by.

This is so magical, the moments in the wilderness left me speechless, watching lions mating oh my God, i really envy that man who has not yet been to Africa because he has so much to look at.

Don't be fooled 🤣. The brothers have to act uninterested because they don't want any smoke from their brother. But they definitely want to mate with her too!
They will get their chance with the lioness. They just are being patient. The strength of a coalition also comes from the fact that the lions don’t really ever know which lion sired the cubs. So they give equal protection to the entire pride.

No that’s how lions are . They’re programmed to mate as many times. He is the dominant male so he gets to decide if he wants her mating with his brothers. But in time they probably will. It wouldn’t really matter what female it is. That’s what they do

The brothers can switch up and take turns, they all look alike, she probably will smash them all eventually anyway at different times to make each of the male lions believe that they are the father.

Yes he will recognise her. Lions recognise facial features and have a strong sense of smell.

Wow this was incredibly intense to watch yet beautiful at the same time. Do the lions stick close by the female when the deed is done or do they just leave her all alone to fend for herself while she could be pregnant??
Fend for herself...in this case, he's by her side only because the other lion is around
It's not that they abandon the lionesses, its just that the pride males' job is to scent mark their vast territory and fight off any lions who come into the territory so that they don't lose control of their pride which would mean their cubs would be killed. They are protecting by patrolling, scent marking, and roaring. That means they are away while performing those duties.
The lionesses do all the hunting and rearing of cubs together. When the males come back they get first dibs on all food because they have to stay large and healthy to keep other lions out. When they are with the pride, they are also with cubs. Some are more tolerant dads than others, but they do show affection to their lionesses and cubs.

They don't care. As long as the genes are that of the Coalition brothers, they will accept the responsibility and protect their cubs as if they were their own
Lioness will mate with multiple males to solve that problem even leopards will in hopes the males think the cubs are theres trying to keep them safe
It doesn't matter. The brothers are a coalition. They are one. As long as the brothers believe the cubs come from their coalition, the cubs are safe.
They will mate other lionesses when they are ready
It looks like she wanted to check out his brothers because they had darker manes and were attractive but he wasn’t having it. See the look she gave one of his brothers at 5:07 before going into the bushes. There wasn’t much chemistry between them and it looks like she was mating with him out of obligation.
2 Mjejanes left. Big Toya and Pretty Boy. Unfortunately T is probably gone, killed by Berg En Daal males.

Unless they have moved a lioness' female part, this male lion is just humping her back 😁😂🤣😃😄- no wonder he's nervous. She's in estrous and needs for the male lion to know what to do.
It does seem like she keeps going towards the brothers. She really has no business doing that. She should stay put. Yet, again, this male is trying to impregnate her back. She's frustrated and needs a male lion's help!
What's crazier is he keeps looking at her angrily ( like how is it her fault? She can't talk to tell him, she has no hands to show him!). I've seen men look at woman like that and then it escalates to Domestic Violence ( DV) situation. Again - his fault. She's trying to get the circle of life going. He's doing the baby's got back " literal back" on her. He's a freakin lion male NERD!
Saw a documentary once about a female lion who was in estrous and both brothers were taking their turns. The narrator said she was doing that so neither brother would kill her Cubs. I think she was just a losey goosey😋 like this frustrated female. I don't think lions think that far in advance to think thet better do all the brothers, yeah right!
