- This extraordinary battle till death took place on my front lawn a while ago and although the quality it not great as I used a mobile phone to record it still gives one an idea what happens in nature. These things happen so unexpectedly and can be over before you've blinked I didn't have time to get a camera. Thanks for watching.
Every time I see the mangoose defeat snakes, I develope more and more respect for these creatures!
Btw, does the snake ever defeat the mongoose?

respect for its fighting skills. no respect for its behavior. i used to feel the same way till i learned they dont just kill snakes. they kill absolutely everything they can and destroy the ecosystem. you cant import them anywhere in the world. they are monsters.

@onebashman2808 That's different. The mongoose is quite resistant to snake venom. But, everything needs to breathe. Pythons clamp down on their prey and are in constriction mode before the prey can react.

They know the cobra is highly defensive and not likely to advance. They also are highly resistant to most snake venom within their range.

Every fight i watch it always looks like the mongoose is checking his watch and yawning while in a fight.
Watching a mongoose battle a venomous snake is a hundred times better than watching people fight.
This is seemingly a very aggressive mongoose. Usually its repetitive lightning circles with small bites to wear the cobra down until he spots the opp and goes in for the kill. Never seen one meet face to face like this fella. WOW !!!
I think the Mongoose was was an impatient hungry young fellow in mongoose-speak.
Mongoose already had him tired,snake was not snapping quick and was already beat by video start.

That book was also complete nonsense. Like the goal of the cobras was to murder the colonialist family and any other humans they could. Cause that's something a small, deaf reptile that gains nothing by biting a human actually wants to do.

Ricky tiki tavi most fearless mongoose I think part of weasel family very fierce predators snakes are like licorice to them especially king Cobras helps keep their population down laws of nature...

Growing up I used to watch this show as seasonal called Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.. I think it was an Indian family who had a mongoose and they keep them as pets, and they treat them very gently and very good, like we would a pet because they can kill the snakes. I'm in my forties now but I would watch that in a heartbeat if they started putting it back on💯❤!

The instinct of mongoose leads it to make the fight longer which will make the snake tired and being a warmblooded animal the mongoose can fight for a long time and win the battle.
where do they originate from? i learned they dont just kill snakes they kill absolutely everything they can. unless they came from a place where snakes were the only thing to eat. you cant import them to any other countries. not even a single mongoose. they would destroy the ecosystem murdering every small creature they see

Mongoose are prey to hawks and eagles as well as larger land predators, so they are wary.
To me, the mongoose does this to get the snake tired. You can tell midpoint that the cobra is still flexing but not putting up much resistance.

I guess whenever there's a fight to the death between a mongoose and a cobra it means the mongoose had a meal.
The biggest strength for Mongoose is the reverse movement instinct. Sharp and fast and after a few forward attack moves the cobra will tire.

Yes, it is always hard to believe, but on any day the fight between a snake and a mongoose is always lopsided in favor of the latter. Mongooses just know how to win against snakes, and they have no fear whatsoever of a black mamba or a king cobra. I love the mongoose because of this.

Meanwhile King cobras are densier, heavier and thus much slower than its smaller relatives. Their size and lack of speed are their own drawbacks. So in my opinion, a pair of adult mongooses can tackle a king cobra with ease.

I don't know how far along the fight had gone before you started filming, but the cobra definitely did not look fast in it's strikes. It was pretty amazing to see how the mongoose just walked right up to the snake and attacked it's head.

Probably only a minute had elapsed before I started recording. I was so surprised how slow the cobra was, he seemed to be mesmerised by the mongoose from the beginning. Maybe he knew what he was in for, a hiding !!!
As snakes go Cobra's are relatively slow strikers.
Could be bad genetics in strike speed, or it dint bask enough to bring its body tempature to optimal level which is a weakness of any Snake.
Notice how mongoose always check their backs even when fighting for their lives, gotta love em.
They are checking for other predators. Quite a few things will eat them!

These battles are always amazing in the early stages but in truth I have never seen a fight the Mongoose didn't win. The Cobra is a one trick pony but its a deadly trick Mongoose run the wear him down strategy using their lightning speed and just wait for that right angle and time to end it. Super quick and gutsy as hell. Hats off !
If the cobra is approaching full size, it usually can convince the mongoose to leave. I've seen it happen with large snouted cobras. The mongoose seems to judge how large the snake is and how much energy it has.
Must be fun to get to watch Nat Geo Wild channel without actually paying for cable.

The closest we have here in the states is watching a roadrunner take out a 7' long rattlesnake. They are expert snake killers, and no they don't go "meep meep!!!" and take off in a cloud of dust, haha. Coyotes will eat them of course, haha.

The Cape Cobra had got great guts , had never seen any other cobra fight this good !
From the size of this furry opponent, its either an Indian Mongoose or an Egyptian Mongoose, also called an Ichneumon, which has the size and strength to take out a Cobra of this size!
I will not live in that place knowing that cobras sneaks around.

Well done capturing this encounter. That is a sizeable adult Cape cobra and not an easy pushover for the Grey Mongoose. You are very fortunate to live amongst these wild animals, and I imagine you are the sort of person who would protect and respect the snakes as much as you do for all the other less-dangerous animals.

If I am the cobra, I find the nearest hole and crawled into it to hide. On open ground, mongoose always have the advantage when the fight drags on as the mongoose will always make many bites on the snake's body first to make it tired and disoriented before going for the coup d e'tat by biting the snake''s neck and then it's game over.
The mongoose does the hit and run. It starts out biting toward the tail and works its way up to the neck.
If you was a cobra soon or later you still die because a Mongoose always looking for you. That’s his favorite food...

Love watching these little "Bruce Lees" of the animal kingdom. They are extremely fast and agile. He knows if he can snap the neck of the snake, they can't poise to strike. Would be funny to add Bruce Lee sounds when the snake strikes... :-)
