- What does a bite feel like? That's one of the most popular questions that I get from beginners. In this fishing video I try to explain not only what one feels like but the different types of bites that you should expect.

This guy has taught me more about bass fishing than anyone. In a year I went from never catching anything to being a fairly decent fisherman in that I actually catch bass now.
A bite is what happens at the exact moment your wife calls, or you are taking a drink, any time you aren’t ready for it lol.
I still remember the first bass I caught I was just reeling in my line and there wasn't any tension or a thump not even slackline my bait just started swimming upstream.
Thats how my brother caught a bass 3 days ago
Great video gene! When I met my wife she had never fished before. So I took her bass fishing, and she was setting the hook on every little thing she felt. It was actually comical! I told her she will know when she gets a hit. Feels totally different than bumping into cover and objects. I am going to have her watch this! Thanks gene!👍
Great information and it doesn't hurt a thing to set the hook even if it's not a fish when you feel a thump
nice video!!!!! your exactly right about jigs... one time i got confused had a hard hit/bump and i thought oh thats a rock... NOPE turned out to be a 6 pound catfish that thumped it... shocked the heck outta me lol
Thanks for the information! Before I bass fished I would never know what a bite feels like so anytime I hit something I would try to set the hook. If only this video was out years ago!
The best way to describe it is it just feels different and it will tug back. Sticks, weeds, and rocks have no motion.
Thanks for all of your awesome content Gene! Hope to see you out on Chickamauga again this spring!
gotcha, plain simple and straightforward, thank you. awesome tip
Roll tide baby!!! 😂😂 great video!
Great explanation Gene.
Very novice fisherman here but yeah, first bass was on a spinnerbait at a local Lake. Was just reeling and noticed it just didn't feel the same suddenly. I slowly started to pull my rod tip back and to the right to test tension and to see if I could feel any movement and sure enough my rod tip bounced. So i set the hook and landed my first. It's the only real way I can feel a bite with a spinnerbait. Just slowly swipe to the side and see if the tip bounces from the fish tugging. Great video as usual Gene. Keep em coming!
Or if your like me a bite feels like whatever happens when I’m not paying attention and you miss the fish lol. Great tips though. 👊🏻
Line watching helps a TON when fishing a weightless bait or very light bait like a senko or Ned rig. Also watching your rod tip on a fast action rod will clue you in on a lot of soft bites.
Great video brother! Nice to have these videos on the most basic things because it forces me to focus on the little things.
Great video. Most helpful bass fishing channel in my opinion.
Nice video. I love that lake.
Well said Gene! Great colours in the video too!
Hooksets are free is some of the best advice I got when I started out.
My favorite. The dead stop !!
Finally some good info from someone. Thanks.
Great tips and great video
I wish I could try jigs more. I typically use cranks and swimbaits. My local lake is rocky. I lose a lot of lures on the bottom.
@Derek K I'm a very novice fisherman but from the videos I watch I would love to. But in the year I've been fishing more aggressively I've lost upwards of $50 in lures on the bottom of this lake. 😖 So now I just throw shallow cranks and floating jerkbaits.
Tacticalbassin did a video on getting hung up less, it’s a different method but it might help you out, it’s ‘how to never get snagged again’
good simple tips! thanks
That looks like my favorite fishery!
Love your videos! More please.
Awesome tips! Thanks bro!
Hey man I've been enjoying fishing and I've caught a couple and I recently just caught my first pond fish. I was wondering how can you tell if the bite is a bass or a blue gill ? I can't tell and that makes me hesitant to set the hook.
I see it like this a bluegill feels like someone it touching your line with a jack hammer. A bass is usually just one or two taps.
@@FlukemasterDamn thanks. 🫡
Awesome video man love your content and channel!!🔥🎣
Great Video now I know how I’m going to show my son how a bite will feel. Thanks Gene
Also, watch the line...often times you won't feel anything, but the line starts heading in a different direction.
Great tips!!!
Pencil huh? Gonna have to try that! Thanks Gene!
Love your channel, Thanks! Looks like you have a polarizer on your go pro this time as the colors are perfect. Keep up the good work of teaching!
I switched to a Sony.
good move then, didn't know but proof is in the pudding!

Fish a 4 inch sinko Carolina rigged shallow and slow up and down retrieve, after a weekend you will know what a bite can feel and look like
When you say have the your buddy touch line with a pencil, do you mean line or bullet weight
line
thank you!!! how do you fish into the thick cover without losing a hook? i figures that's where they all are but every time i feel back in i pull a ton of the green algae-cover material.
Texas rig senko, TH-cam it
What is the cheapest kayak you can get with a paddle drive in it do they make one under 1000
Does weather conditions change the way fish bite
My problem is I cant figure out what bait to use because i have too much stuff
No better feeling than having a bite
Bring Taylor back, Gene!!, keep up the great videos!!
I’m still an amateur. I’ve never caught a fish on a lure. I’ll cast it out, for example a spinner, and do a simple retrieve. I won’t feel any bites, but when I pull up the lure it’ll have bite marks all over it. ALL over it. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.
If you feel a change in the tension when you retrieve it, set the hook. Set them hard at first until you get a feel for how hard you need to for future bites
@@chadp5530 That helps a lot, especially the last part. Thank you Chad.
Or you can just set the hook into anything that stops your rod
What about crabs
Was that a fish fart sound in the beginning of the video?
Man I’ve caught fish but I didn’t know I was hooked until the fish was right in front of me 😅 not sure how that’s a thing.
I've thrown jigs and worms for 3 years now with no success and I'm almost certain it's because I have no idea how to tell if I have a fish and when I do think I have one I I set the hook and nothing, lmao I can feel q bite when using small crappie jigs and stuff for trout and pikeminnow but can never feel q bass bite on lures like that, only had them on float rigs and spinners or jerkbaits
Keep working in it bro you will catch a bass
Did you shi# yourself pulling that fish in? Lol
Nice...i like👍👍😂
Set the hook. Yeah you are gonna lose a bait or two but that's just paying ya dues.
Great Video Sir. Hook Em! errr i mean.......yeah.
1st love you vids
I call this free hookset.
