Below you'll find complete instructions plus products used in making this video.
I recommend you price check before buying any products listed.
Amazon Biutee Mica Powder set of 32 link: tinyurl.com/y66s5qc5
Bienfang Paper Multi Palette link: tinyurl.com/y3yadgrz
    First Project:
    Making Alcohol Inks:
Ranger's Alcohol Ink Palette link: tinyurl.com/y5o8xsj4 Put a small amount of 91% alcohol into one of the wells, then add mica powder, combine with a palette knife. It needs to be relatively runny in texture and can dry out, then be refreshed with Ranger alcohol blending solution link: tinyurl.com/y6j64vrr
    2nd
Metallic Acrylic Paint: Take white acrylic paint and mix w/ some mica powder to your desired color. Any craft acrylic paint will work. You need to use this immediately, as it can't dry and be re-wet.
    3rd
Metallic Acrylic Paint: Use Mod Podge (I used outdoor, but you can use whatever you like) and mix with mica powder to desired color. You need to use this immediately (or before it dries.)
Lindsay Frugal Crafter Video link: • DIY metallic paint
    4th
Metallic Watercolors: Gum Arabic link: tinyurl.com/y53jfypk Take dry Gum Arabic and use 1 part to 4 parts mica powder then add water to desired consistency. This, you can re-use if you put it in a container and let it dry out then re-wet later to use.
    5th
Metallic Texture Paste: Using a cheap white glue, put the glue onto a glass or plastic plate. Add enough mica powder to make sure it stays in the stencil and remains raised when dry (A mayo consistency). Use a palette knife to apply this mixture to your stencil, then immediately after, clean the stencil or the glue will ruin it if it dries on it.
    6th
Metallic Stamping Ink w/ an ink: Using an existing small ink cube, put some mica on top and add some Ink Refresher link: tinyurl.com/yxba5hhs and rub the mica into the ink pad, then stamp onto it.
    7th
Metallic Ink w/ Baby Wipe: Using a folded baby wipe, and a dye based reinker, squirt a few drops reinker onto the baby wipe then put some mica powder on the baby wipe and using a palette knife to combine them, work the two together, then stamp into the baby wipe.
I used a Peg Stamp ice cream cone link: tinyurl.com/y6pl97hj
    8th
Metallic Modelling Paste: Using Deco Art Modelling Paste link: tinyurl.com/y6hbmtv4 and a palette knife on a plate, mix in enough mica powder to the desired color then use on a stencil. Clean palette knife and stencil immediately after use. Gingko Stencil link: tinyurl.com/yxvcszt2
    9th
Metallic Alcohol Spray Ink: Using diy alcohol ink, video link: • Bonus DIY Video, DIY A... . Add mica powder into the bottle and shake it until well combined before you put the lid on. After you've made it, shake it like a bell rather than up and down, as you'll clog the tube with mica, and shake before each use.
    10th
Glitter Double Sided Tape: Put tear tape where you want it on your project, then rub the paper (before removing the backing paper) with your embossing pouch Link: tinyurl.com/y4qlw66p or corn starch or baby powder on a brush...wipe the surface to ensure it's protected, then remove the backing paper from the tear tape and using a brush, wipe the tape until it's covered.
    11th
Wipe cardstock with baby powder, then ink a stamp with Versamark ink link: tinyurl.com/y3wohjl4 and stamp the paper. Add whatever color mica powder you want on a paint brush and brush over the surface, brushing off excess with another clean brush.
Add additional colors as you choose.
    12th
Embossed image metallic coloring: Run cardstock through your die cutting machine with an embossing folder inside, then pat the raised images with a Versamark ink pad. Using a paint brush, add mica powder to the raised images as desired.
    13th
Mix clear embossing powder w/ mica powder to create your own pearlized embossing powders. Take a tbsp. of clear embossing powder and add mica powder to make a color you like, then combine well. Add the powder to a stamped image w/ Versamark ink then heat set. Don't combine this powder with any other embossing powders.
    14th.
Metallic Gesso- Add mica powder to gesso to desired color.
    15th
Multi Matte Medium Stamping: Put a little multi matte medium on a scrap, stamp with a red rubber stamp first into Versamark ink to protect the stamp, then into the Multi Matte Medium and onto your cardstock, then add mica powder to color it. Clean stamp immediately after.
    16th
Metallic Pearls: make hot glue circles on a craft mat then once glue is cooled, brush mica powder over it. Pull off and use wet glue to add to project
    17th
Metallic faux wax seal: Squeeze hot glue onto a craft mat large enough for your stamp. Press only red rubber stamps into Versamark ink, then into the hot glue on your mat. Once cooled, brush over with mica powder. Attach to project with wet glue.

Hi Sandy, I wanted to thank you for all these fantastic ideas for the uses of mica powders. I was looking for a video concerning mixing homemade alcohol inks using Isopropyl Alcohol and mica powders, and your video gave me so, so, SO much more than I expected! Thank you for all this inspiration! I would never have thought of half of these! You can also make your own coloured clay by adding mica to air dry clay or polymer clay. Both are clays I have used with mica powders and they colour up so nicely. I have used the mica with shop bought AND home made Air Dry Clay so it makes no difference which one you use. It even works in salt dough! I hope you do a follow up video on this one with more ideas, as this video was awesome and gave me so many ideas. Thank you again. Happy crafting my friend, from one disabled crafter to another! Keep your chin up sweetie. God be with you. From a UK fan.

I'm sorry to hear you have medical issues as well, and hope it won't stop you from crafting...I really wanted to do things with clay but found it was too difficult for me to kneed and shape, so had to give up on it, drat. I hate admitting when I can't do something... Please let me know if you have any other topics you'd like me to cover in a video, as I'd be happy to do so...Thanks for the nice note. Sandy

So happy to hear you enjoy my channel!! If you don't want to purchase the full set of micas, and just want to try a gold, you can buy one pot of LA Colors eye shadow (if you're in the US) at the Dollar Tree and make sure to pop the bottom off as there's ton of eye shadow inside. I attached Lindsay's video where she made watercolors out of them and she shows how to pop the bottom off....
Or, if you have some old eyeshadows, check the ingredients, and if the first one is mica powder, they would work too...Hope I gave you even more ideas....Sandy

I'm sorry you had a tough day...I think this year has brought all of us a lot of them and I wish things were different....but sadly, we'll be waiting for a while before we're mask free...Hope you give some of these techniques a try. If you don't want to buy mica powders, your old eyeshadow might work if the first ingredient is mica powder, or, the Dollar Tree sells LA Colors eye shadow in bigger pots and if you remove the bottom of the bottle with an Xacto knife, there's a lot of product inside. I attached a video from Lindsay the frugal crafter where she shows how to make watercolors from mica powder and she shows how to take the bottom off of the LA Colors...Hope tomorrow is a better day...Sandy

You can also use acrylic medium, or even Elmer’s Glue (Glue All, not school glue) mixed with mica powder (pigment) to create a custom acrylic paint. The white acrylic paint will increase he opacity and lighten the color, so acrylic medium or glue will give you the purest version of the pigment you choose. ☺️

    • @craftingforalmosteveryone
      @craftingforalmosteveryone  3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@eautangle It's all in the way you finish your pearl. You need to put the glue gun fairly close to the surface you're laying out your pearls on and then press your glue gun trigger...while your pushing the trigger, turn your gun in a circular fashion until you are letting go and keep turning it until there's no more glue coming out. This should make a nice rounded top, but if it doesn't, watch me do it again and hopefully it will work for you. This video shows them again in detail. You can add a splash of hairspray to the mix of mica & water etc, from one of those pump spray bottles or I’m sure you could spray out some hairspray into a container from a normal canister until you have enough. But it should set as it dries that way, otherwise it just falls off once it dries, however, a coat of fixative it probably a good idea either way. I really really like the vibrant colors from Hippie Crafter...here's a video showing them. th-cam.com/video/1GoGxcQqilQ/w-d-xo.html
To be honest, they mailed them to me, but I've bought other brands and was always disappointed in how similar the colors are and how muted, but these are super vibrant and wonderful. Can't recommend them enough. The box I have sells for $26 but they give you a discount for your first order...one of those spin the wheel things. If you have Amazon prime, you can also buy it there for the same price, but not pay shipping..here's the link. www.amazon.com/Mica-Powder-Resin-Supplies-Pigment/dp/B08G65KP7B/ref=sr_1_8?crid=10MM4KWC0J3UC&keywords=hippie%2Bcrafter&qid=1697309470&sprefix=hippie%2Bcrafter%2Caps%2C118&sr=8-8&th=1
I am not affiliated with Amazon, so please buy it wherever you find the lowest price. My channel is all about helping people find cheaper ways to do things and when I find a deal, I like to pass it on, but my channel also isn't monetized so I make no money on it, and I think that helps people know they can trust me when I say I like a product...Hope that wasn't too much info. • @craftingforalmosteveryone
      @craftingforalmosteveryone  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Mica powder doesn't have any kind of fixative to make it stick to your card or project. If you want it to stay in place, use some really cheap hair spray (like Aqua Net) and lightly spray the card, or if you have a fixative like this www.walmart.com/ip/Krylon-Crystal-Clear-Spray-Paint-Matte-Clear-11-oz/17211027?wl13=1656&selectedSellerId=0 it will make sure the mica powder is sealed in place. I normally just use hair spray because I'm not making anything that I want preserved for a long time, like art work, but if you want your project to last, I recommend using the fixative instead. Glad you asked...Please email me if you have more questions, as I sometimes don't see all of the comments I get. saundralparker@yahoo.com Sandy
