You know, people say "Oh wow, it took him ten years to get back to Ithica and his so very faithful wife, Penelope", but, one of those years was spent shacked up with the witch Circe, and SEVEN were with Calypso on her island! SEVEN! So really, it was only a two-year journey! It was only so long because he was getting with other women whilst his actual wife was being amazingly faithful! (Well, if we ignore the myth where the god Pan is the child of Penelope and ALL FIFTY of the suitors, no really).
I see they went with the version where Helen went with Paris willingly, and she wasn't just kidnapped by him or snatched up by Aphrodite. Also, I find it incredibly weird for Paris to be so eager to fight. In the text, it is clear that he is an absolute pussy - heck, there's one scene where everyone else is fighting AND HE'S DOING HIS HAIR!
This interpretation makes Paris a more heroic and relatable faction leader. But you’re right, he’s often portrayed as a coward, and sometimes Helen is portrayed as a victim of Aphrodite
Fun fact: The reason Poseidon and Apollo are against the Trojans in the war, despite having built their legendary walls, is that upon building them, Laomedon - the father of Priam - then proceeded to short-change them of the agreed price.
That’s cool! That makes sense for Poseidon. But I thought that Apollo was against the Danaans in the war. Apollo definitely casts a plague upon them at the beginning of the Iliad, the reason being Agamemnon’s refusal to ransom back the captive daughter of one of Apollo’s favoured priests.
Questions: What is you opinion about unflankable units? How about Healing Ability? Do light units still get tired if they run too much? What is your opinion regarding pocket ladders? Do you use the shield placing ability? If units are hidden, do they kneel?
I like that the start button says sail away. Also it would be hillarious if they gave him a more appropriate -85% movement on sea + high attrition (you could call that perk rivalry of poseidon or something haha). :) The dog with wings is a chimera I suspect can be a 100% due to the video need more zoom, but the "wing" looks like a goat head looking towards the tail and the head looks like and old imagery of lions. Interestingly the Chimeras earliest litterary mention comes from the Illiad the game is based upon, and the monster have a place in greek mythology due to the myth about how Bellephoron with the help of the winged horse pegasus defeated it.
As soon as I saw the notification "Legion12Centurion has left a comment" I knew I'd get a history lesson! Using the word history fairly loosely, of course, given all the flying horses. It's appreciated! :)
Yeah, the resource system is something high on my wish list for other games. It's really great having to go for a less convenient settlements just because it's got something you need. It really helps stop it from becoming routine :)
Curious on that final siege battle why you didn't place all of your vanguard units up real close to the walls? I just watch people play these games, but I'd imagine you could have rushed one of the gates and taken the walls while your non-vanguard units approached so they had to gate to walk through.
It was impossible to lose that battle so I wasn't thinking too much about it. Though it does raise the fact that the vanguard deployment zones are far more generous in sieges in Troy than any other TW title. It could lead to some some strategies :)
If it was just speed there would be no reason to ever get heavy units. They tend to have heavier armour making them more survivable, are often more elite tier units since only the more skilled warriors would get the best equipment, and that weight has an impact on well, the impact, of cavalry and chariot charges. Light infantry aren't even an obstacle, whereas a chariot will stop dead in it's tracks charging into decent heavy infantry that's braced for it. But Light infantry can still be excellent since they're faster and when the game says they're good at flanking it's because they actually have a bonus to flanking in this game, so they do even more damage when they do flank an enemy. There's also the issue with speed meaning that the heavier more survival units can eventually just get murdered by javelins and archers that they can never catch up to. Variety is important to cover all you bases :)
My pleasure! It's a good question to ask; There's a seeming lack of unit variety in the game given the setting, but they've more than made up for it by making "infantry" serve a broader host of roles :)
It's arguably still fairly realistic. You could argue that they're trained to target distances rather than people, and that other units are spotting for them. Archers firing over walls is a bit of a trope in "Historical" media so I'm happy for them to take liberties for the sake of spectacle and gameplay :)
@@JanetOnOccasion their precision shall be reduced greatly. They don't need to maneuver and scale the walls. They just fire units behind the walls. Aside from that, walls shall be a hindrance to their line of sight. As of right now, walls don't function as it should be because archers can see through them.
I'm not disputing that it's unrealistic. I'm 100% with you on that. I just don't mind it being unrealistic for the sake of streamlining gameplay. They never set out to make a war simulation game here. The fact that you can issue orders without delay makes the game completely farcical already :)
Odysseus' mechanic about landlocked areas is a bit misleading, as Altis has that long stretch of coastline so definitely isn't landlocked. Suddenly makes him much less fun if they specifically mean port settlements.
It's not even slightly misleading. I even joke about how it's making the point too strongly. It says "You can build them in coastal settlements only". You can argue that you don't like the mechanic but saying that they're not being clear about it seems like a stretch. I personally enjoy it since there's now an interesting choice in certain regions where you might be stuck deciding whether to avoid taking the entire province and missing out on commandments, or declare war on somebody new for what might not be a settlement that's worth the hassle. It's a similar system to the climate system from Warhammer when you really boil it down :) Oh, and if it was all settlements that are a part of a region then I think that might be literally all but two of them in southern Greece :P
Friendly advice: Don't use the term "friendly advice" if you're actually giving people friendly advice. It's the reserve of those who intend on removing your knee-caps if you don't take the advice. Like seriously, watch any mobster movie :P
That's not even slightly true. This isn't a mainline Total War title, it's "A Total War Saga" title. No company would ever have a spin-off delay a larger and more profitable project. Also CA have around 700 staff now and multiple teams that each work on separate titles. We get new Total War content basically every 6 weeks and that's not because they have 700 people all working on one thing at a time.
That's extremely untrue. TROY is made by a different developer (in Bulgaria I think), and they said the pandemic has slightly delayed production of Warhammer 3.
The video title is hilarious XD

Since yesterday I have waited 22 hours for this video to release and it still has 2 more hours.... Lord save me.
Janet comin in hot with the dad jokes
I see so much potential for this titel and what it could be building towards in other titles

This game looks so nice I'm actually considering getting the Epic installer just for it. Given it's going to be free on the launch day.
Might as well, huh? They give out free games all the time, too. I boot the launcher up weekly just to see what they're giving away :P
is there any difference in using heavy, medium, light infantry tacticly? or just the speed of units?

In the last battle, Skirmishers can just shoot units behind the walls without seeing them.
