Perfect! Thank you for taking the time to show how this is done by hand. I love it and it speaks volumes to ingenuity and imagination. Can’t wait to try it!
Very very interesting Clive...I don't know if I ever going to try this, but having a glimps into the colormaking process with all the needed stuff is really quite informative to me...even as watching a part of beautiful wales... thanks a lot !!!
Well it’s more like a red oxide being an earth tone it’s more in the sienna range I would say but that’s the fun of colour mixing from raw pigment plus it dries darker
Thank you so much for showing us this process of making our own paints. Am curious about some things, though. How long do these colors last on your paintings? And, are they fade - proof? Also, how do you make your own pigments - what are they made of? Thanks for answering if you will, and, thank you again for sharing this method. Another question I have would using a coffee bean grinder or a kitchen blender make the pigments into finer particles? Thanks again. 😀
Hi thank you for making this, how/ what would I use to make other colors like greens? Green is probably my most used color. Would I even be able to do a color like green without buying a pigment?
This has been a really interesting project to follow. Do you plan on making any more pigments? You could probably make a black from crushed coal, or an orange type colour from rust powder.
Is your plate textured? The grinding and mulling is much easier when both the plate and muller are textured (at least for watercolor). Or are you using the smooth because of the acrylic binder?
Thanks for sharing this informative video, Clive. Can a plexiglass plate be used instead of glass? Also, what do you use to clean your glass from the gel medium?
By using extra ingredients to thicken as it you say, doesn't that take away from the intensity of the paint? I heard that the best paints to use , use pigment and binder...thx again!
Hello, I really enjoyed your video! Today I tried for the first time to make my own acrylic with some pigments and binder I bought. My paint ended up very runny so I think I need to buy some gel to out with it. I came across a problem or two. I found as I was using the glass Müller (however it's spelt) the paint was drying on the glass so then it was bringing more lumps into my mix. How do you prevent that? Also now I've found my finished paint has lots of tiny bubbles in it that I can't get out. I've tried tapping the container to release them but it's not working. Do you have any advice? Hope you enjoyed working with your new paint :-)
Thank you so much for making this video! Do you think you'll be making more videos with different colors in the future? I'd love to learn how to make yellows and greens as well.
It's a brown red colour as it's a natural earth tone found in the area the painting I did of a mine I wanted to add some of the colour from that area in to the painting
What is pure acrylic binder? Can I buy it at a chemical market? If you can give me the proper name maybe I’ll be able to buy it at the local chemical market which isn’t art oriented so they’ll need to know exactly what it is, chemically
I really enjoyed watching this process from rock to paint. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Happy to share thanks

Very interesting Clive thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much
Thank you so much for this video. I have always wondered how paint was made. That was really fascinating!
Thank you so much,, I love to make as much as I can myself I enjoy creating everything not just the painting

Oh sooooo kind of u !!!!!! Bless u!!!!!
Great showing and info - lots thanks
This is great, glad I found you! You say it is a lovely red but it looks like a lovely brown, must be my tablet.

Keep it up! love the videos!

They last as long as any paint artist have been mixing their own for 100s of years
fascinating video! have you ever tried making printmaking ink? You're one of the first people I've seen actually make acrylic paint...
Not made ink but I’ve made most paints
Hi thank you for making this, how/ what would I use to make other colors like greens? Green is probably my most used color. Would I even be able to do a color like green without buying a pigment?
It's much easier to buy the pigment if you look on the web you will find information on how green pigment is made
This has been a really interesting project to follow. Do you plan on making any more pigments? You could probably make a black from crushed coal, or an orange type colour from rust powder.
I have used coal and charcoal for now black I mix all my own paints now for my private work
Thanks, very interesting.
thank you

Yes I have a rough section on the marble
Thanks for sharing this informative video, Clive. Can a plexiglass plate be used instead of glass? Also, what do you use to clean your glass from the gel medium?
Glass is better or an old marble slab and I use rubbing alcohol to clean it
By using extra ingredients to thicken as it you say, doesn't that take away from the intensity of the paint? I heard that the best paints to use , use pigment and binder...thx again!
There are several ingredients in acrylic paint not just binder and pigment

Does it really work

Thank you yes I’m planning one soon
After watching both videos I keep only seeing brown (mud i.e. earth).... is it really red?
It's a brown red colour as it's a natural earth tone found in the area the painting I did of a mine I wanted to add some of the colour from that area in to the painting

are these pigments dangerous, should I wear a mask?
Mostly they are fine but I always ware a mask 😷
having watched these videos i find myself picking through the gravel under my front steps to find the petrifyed clay we have in the area lol
Lol it’s fun to experiment artists have been making paints for centuries why do we find it so hard to except we can do the same
CLIVE5ART all the grinding gives time to think up ideas of how to use the paint as well
