A great episode! One little niggle - you should have upzoned more around the tram station. If nothing else, those three single-family homes with driveways which front on the transit-only street seem like they have to go. Some sort of zero-car usage for that site seems like a requirement.

I think you should remove roadside parking along shared tram ROWs!! I've seen so many pictures of North American tram systems being held up because of improperly parked vehicles so I think it would be realistic for a new street running system to remove those points of conflict. Or leave them in because in a way that's realistic too :p Great vid

The solution would be just to increase the number of meter maids cruising the area and having a couple tow companies on speed dial.

Its a minor nickpick but i'mma say it anyway. As a regular at my local Football team in the UK, I don't think you should have a roof on lower stadium tiers. I don't know if its the done thing in the US, but in Britain it would obscure views of the playing surface and make the upper tier seats less desirable. You'd be better off trying to make a lower tier with the roofless stands as you did around the rest of the stadium and placing the roofed section on top instead. Remember, the top tier can overhang the bottom to provide a roof for those below and to save space behind the stand, but the bottom should never obsure the top.

    • @mariusschittek9021

The use of the Ctrl+C mod really shows that if they released some modular stadiums (field as the base with different stands availability as upgradable sub-buildings) we could have lots of variety in builds with relative ease.

Can't wait to see the Chriper's against my hometown team, the Elks!! Great post Phil!! Btw, you want a example of a small CFL stadium, look up the stadium the Saskatchewan Roughriders play home games in. Remember Phil, a regulation CFL field has a mid field at 55yrds not 50, it's also wider at 65 yrds compared to the NFL's 53 1/2yrds.

Absolutely loved this episode Phil! Always love seeing transit get planned and integrated in a community, makes me excited to see Bend grow enough to one day have a metro system!
Just one small thing for the tram: When the white line leaves the downtown transit center, it leaves to the north and makes a 130° turn to the left, even though it could also leave to the south and turn right, without adding much to travel time if any at all. Besides, this allows you to remove the track from the section of road, saving on construction and maintenance costs!

That five-way intersection where you removed the roundabout is screaming for a couplet. I also don't think having a tram go through what is essentially a parking lot at the stadium makes much sense, either. Extending a tram road from the pedestrian road would make more sense, in my opinion. Otherwise, great video, as always!

  • @stornasa-mi2re
    @stornasa-mi2re 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

It's a good day when there's a new CPP video! One nit pick I have is you have a lot of intersections close together (for example at 46:21 with the newly aligned intersection) where you leave crosswalks at the intersection that seem rather redundant, potentially unsafe & likely to contribute to congestion - anything that's like less than half a block away from a main intersection should probably have crosswalks removed unless it's in a core walkable area like the downtown core where you'd want to reduce traffic flow anyways. But in the case of the example above there's no destination one would want to walk to across that street (especially given its just a little cul de sac with some big mcmansions), so I can't see it being a high priority to have a crossing there when the main intersection & crossing is just 20 metres away.

I would really like to see you adding more advertising/murals/posters etc on the walls of buildings that are not detailed. I think this would take the realism and realistic feeling to a whole new level!

One recommendation I might offer - it might be worth considering either adding lane(s) to your tram bridge, or separating the tram into its own lane for that stretch. The last thing a city would want is a broken down tram blocking traffic on such a vital connection!

CFL fields are much larger than NFL ones - ten marked yards in length, another ten extra yards in each endzone, and twelve yards wider. Another result of this is that CFL goalposts are at the front of the endzone instead of the back. Easy way to tell when a Canadian field is doubling for an American location -- BC Place particularly shows up a bunch b/c of all the stuff filmed in Vancouver.

One idea for the stadium district: instead of those huge retaining walls you could consider making the road go underground in a tunnel there, then you could have grass connecting the stadium to the housing as a park over the road (kind of like what has been proposed in Boston, moving the highway underground)

For the field Phil, if you're going to make a decal the CFL field is 110 yards long. Centre field is at the 55yd mark. The goalposts are on the zero yard line with a 20 yard deep endzone. CFL heavily relies on advertising so having more logos on the field and around the stadium would be appropriate.

I am interested to see how you use trams, I recently started messing with them in my cities. I will warn that putting trams near low density housing causes the “High Rent” on the houses near it, as adding the tram line dramatically increases land value along it. you may want to add medium density row housing in place of the low density housing.

37:50 Black and white for seat colors are probably not ideal. Black gets super hot and can potentially be a safety hazard early in the CFL season. White is hard to clean.
If you like the name Bandits, google the Tampa Bay Bandits (former USFL team in both the original version in the early 80's and in the version that is now the UFL) and the Rocket City Trash Pandas (current minor league baseball team). Might be good inspiration

A very easy way to make your CFL stadium feel more like a CFL stadium is to move the field goal uprights to the FRONT of the end zone, on the goal line. This is because the CFL uses 20 yard end zones. Having the multi-purpose lines on the field is very CFL-esque as well, since most Canadian stadia are also used for community, high school or college sports.

Opening out the junction just a bit would probably reduce the massive wheel squeal that would be happening with a bend that tight I reckon.

I love transit builds because they are more aspirational in the game than they would be in real life. I realise that municipal government varies from state to state and province to province, but it would surprise me that the state would allow two separate transit systems in an area with such a small population. Hopefully merging the two city systems into a county system will be a great future challenge.

  • @simonsv9449
    @simonsv9449 5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    • Something I’d love to see is the tram’s getting their own right-of-way in more places, instead of running in the street. I suggest to take some inspiration from the Valley Metro Rail in Phoenix, Arizona.
    • The Ike Yards tram should probably be extended all the way to Bend University. There is already an important transit hub there, and some of the most frequent transit users are students. When you search which cities in the US have the biggest transit ridership, you’ll notice a LOT of them are college towns.
    • The bus station in Downtown Bend could use the extra platforms. It’ll likely have many lines serving it, at least in the future.
    • After making all these changes, i think the line network would really feel like a transit backbone. I would connect together basically all transit hubs and major destinations with rail service and buses serving last mile connections. Dedicated bus lines can be added to shuttle back-and forth between different hubs that do not have a direct tram service between them.

Great episode, those transit fixes were certainly much needed. I like the stadium enhancement, much more of a realistic scale imo. My only suggestion would be to add more Johnson Aggregate branding around the stadium as opposed to just the one sign. At the very least, the highway side of the stadium could also use a sign as well that can be seen from the highway. And when you get around to fixing the road infrastructure to provide more reasonable car access to the stadium from the highway, having signage over there will make sense. I still feel theres not enough parking over there even despite the priority being to make people use transit.
Glad to hear the direction is to sprawl Bend out a little more before you build up….as that is very realistic of American planning. Plus Bend as the principle city needed to feel a little bigger in my opinion from a sprawl standpoint as compared to the surrounding communities. Looking forward to it.

My comment on the trams for this video is that the turn right out of the hub towards downtown is way too tight and you can see the trams in the game struggling to make it. I think you should try to back out the curve a bit there

Think I prefer if the detailing comes area by area compared to all at the end. Nice conclusion when you move onto the next thing.

idea for another episode: completely redo the university with all the new assets and schools available, and redo all the zoning around it too, your skills have improved quite a lot from a year ago so it will look better

Would make sense realistically too to have an episode dedicated to these upgrades because universities are always rebuilding stuff or building new stuff. Grew up 10 min from Penn State University….every year something was being torn down and rebuilt. I was just scrolling Google maps the other day and there’s been even more significant changes since I last lived there 10 years ago.

I don’t know if anyone else has said this but you don’t have to place a new bus/tram stop, move the line and delete the old stop. Just click on the bus/tram sign and the info on the stop should come up. At the bottom of the box is a relocate button. Just use that to move your stop and the line will move with it. Saves time and steps.

The junction at 16:09 needs expanding with manipulation mode or reroute the tram track via that pedestrian path. That inside curve at the intersection is too tight.

A good sprawl of communities or suburbs being built and connecting downtown's and leading to new towns to become midtown's to take over the medium height while downtown grows into higher density and vertical buildings

Excellent build! I would only suggest changing the colors of the Red and White lines. Since white is one of the colors of the local teams and features in the stadium visually it makes more sense to me

🤔 I saw a triangular tram station in the mods section on PDX. I immediately thought that it might address that area of your city. I might get it myself and try to create three sections of my city, NOT connected to each other on a tram track, where each section is independent of one another, but all stops from each line locating on the tram station, encouraging citizens to transfer to another line. I'll try to remember to attempt this... 🤨

Please consider changing the colour of the tram shelter. Black absorb heat and provide low visibility during bad weather.

going back to the previous episode. i think the eminent domain of the orchard for the stadium build would stir up a lot of political dram with local farmers, as this would be the second time the city has done that to the same family. perhaps pushing the farmers to start protests in the city for fairer treatment.

Looking at all the aerial views over Bend this episode (particularly at 20:55) has made me realise, I think that the area around Candorbury could do with some TLC. It feels a little disconnected from the rest of the neighbourhoods around it.
Perhaps a more integrated road layout closer to Downtown and Riverside, such as continuing Woodland Street straight through to Couillard Street. The area on the other side of Broad Street could retain the more suburban look, replacing the circles with the new cul-de-sacs.

Love the Stadium build, think it deserves more time though in terms of detailing. The double roofed stands really bug me because the top stand wouldnt see much. Maybe try putting the open stands under the roofed stands with better buildozer. Im not a big fan of the field decal, would be great if you could get better one on the store. And then small details like reconfiguring the lights, adding sponsor decals, small plazas and merch/food stands, bins, benches, trees etc. Would really bring the stadium to life.

Learnt a lot from this build. I am building on your map. Started out by somewhat copying your development, but slowly giving it my own swing. Really enjoying the game now that is has come so far. Only thing that is bothering me arm is a garbage problem, where certain buildings will not have their garbage collected. I think it might have something to do with roudbuilder.
One thing I was 'sad' to see you do was remove some of the old landscaping where you removed and redid some roads. I think in reality, especially lines of trees might often reflect on historical roads that are no longer in use or don't even exist anymore.

Sprawling out before building up, eh? I don't think Chuckles is gonna be super happy about that. And when it comes to easily developable land around Bend, the first place that comes to mind is the Williams' farm and the other nearby farms!
I'm fully anticipating suburban development in Bend to make an enclave of the Williams' land. When i think of a farm surrounded by city, the first thing I think of is the Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It was established by the government as an agricultural research site. It still serves in that role today and it's also a National Historic Site home to the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, and also just being a very nice space to go for a walk in via the paths in the farm. Its also adjacent to a few parks and Carleton University.
I don't forsee the Williams' parting way with their land as long as they're still breathing, but I think itd be cool if some point far in the future the city finally acquires the Williams' land and out of respect for the old curmudgeons, turns their land into something like the Central Experimental Farm.
