NOTE: In this part of the manga, Ace appeared just like 2-3 chapters but since he becomed the most popular character quickly like a "BOOM" and he didnt appeared in the manga again for long time, they decided to make his appearance a bit longer in the anime with some half filler episodes w Imagine the amounth of merch, goods, bonus character in the videogames and more...Ace was probably the first character that got the most merch just for his one appearance in short time XD
Common mistake: Luffys devil fruit is NOT where his physical strength comes from. It's actually the opposite. Think about the strength necessary to pull/push a rubber band 1km (assuming it wouldn't break).
The way Luffy interrupts that stand-off and how it unfolds from there is still one of my favorite comedic moments in the series. There are many other fun moments, but this one just seems perfect: not too short, not too long, and totally believable for all the idiots involved.
So the anime put a bit of filler in next, mainly because Ace is a really popular character and they wanted to give him more screen time. In the manga, Ace does what he does at the end of the filler right here, which I will leave intentionally vague. That being said, it's still good filler and you should still watch it.
I´ll just share my own opinion on filler. I think most of the filler that is "inside" an arc is done pretty well, and not worth the trouble skipping. (And sometimes, for me, it´s hard to tell what´s an actual anime-original filler, and what is a "breather" that was supposed to be there.) Unless it´s something obvious, like an entire recap episode. (or 5...) If someone really wants to skip some filler, it should be when it´s a whole filler arc. (For example, Warship Island, though I think that one wasn´t bad.) There´s some post Alabasta. (Except G-8. That one is great.)
14:48 just to clarify Lucy’s fruit gives him the properties of rubber only, like the momentum generated obviously adds to his hits. But it doesn’t make him physically stronger. I would explain more but spoilers galore!
Luffy being this dumb is really something mostly from the anime that they are using to pad out the story in this part, sometimes it can be funny but I do think they overused it a bit 🤷🏻♀️ he isn't quite this inept in the original manga All the stuff with Luffy getting lost both times is anime filler, in the manga he just runs directly off the ship to the restaurant with Ace and Smoker, and that part plays out exactly the same.
