The goat killed is killed by doing jhatka, jhatka means one strike, so the animal feels the most minnimum pain as possible. Jhatka is eaten. Shaheedi degh is a mirijuana drink which destroys pain from war, helps prepare for war, and gives you energy for meditation. Guru gobind singh ji acctually did cut the 5 heads off, if he said that i am making khalsa today and i need 5 volonteers to help, everone would have got up. He wanted 5 who would be willing to do anything that the guru says.

Buddy does it make any sense?? Are we still in war zone or that old era?? Please do not spread wrong info. This is wrong in sikhism. Sikh are not allowed to eat meat. The whole reason behind eating meat on earlier centuries or specially in wars because they haven’t had such amount of food. But now, there are numerous type of foods are available to eat and it does not make any sense to harm animals for their taste of tongue. We cannot justify innocent killings.

Hi Elissa, I like you for being honest. Trust me people on the day of Vaisakhi in 1699 were astonished, confused and shocked to their very bones when Guru Gobind Singh ji asked for HEAD. Earlier. some were expecting to get teachings from the Guru on the day etc etc but this came as blow, infact sikhi is all about love and compassion. Some even left in fear. But this was a test as Guru was going to establish the fearless "panth" called "Khalsa" (pure). Besides being compassionate and loving, one must be always fearless to stand up with truth for others and themselves and ready to give their life for good cause (back then Mughal ruler and others was ill treating normal person who remained in fear and cant do anything). Five great men rose who were willing to give their head. This was preview how "Khalsa" was going to be , fearless and submission to Guru. Those Five were perfectly fine and emerged as Khalsa who does not discriminate on caste, creed or colour. The Khalsa was created to save humanity! Khalsa is always ready to stood against injustice and indeed a follows love and compassion. On further note, three of the five actually sacrificed their life in the war of 40 against 1,000,000 as they were supposed to be. Hope this helps!

How would you justify killing animals and then use the blood to clean the swords and drinking shardai(Bhang, Cannabis) in the name of Dhan Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Could you please explain this? These Nihang Singhs are not part of the Guru Gobid Singh Ji's Khalsa Panth they all came from the Granth called SURAJ PRAKASH written by Sant Santokh Singh. Who gives birth to all this non-sense and fictional shit about our gurus and our culture. This is clearly not the part of Khalsa that we got from Dhan Shri Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj.

@@garrysingh8957 I see where you are coming from in terms of being compassionate, but Nihangs have protected Sikhi for hundreds of years. It is very well documented in sources outside of Suraj Prakash, in texts by French and British travelers etc. Also, Dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji himself 'killed' animals... how are you to be proficient in the use of weapons and be Tyaar bar Tyaar for battle at any given moment without being able to kill? It is through the hunting, stalking animals and learning how to deliver a killing blow in the most merciful way (cleaving heads off with one blow) that the Khalsa of the 1700's and 1800's were able to put up such a fight against the Mughals and the British. I know that you will say that there are no wars etc now, but the last thing that Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji said to the Khalsa was that never forsake the Waheguru mantar, Gurbaani and also never give up wielding weapons as no other community will be able to make you their subservient. Wielding a weapon is one thing... but learning how to use one well and being comfortable with the scenes of warfare is another. If this can be done without aimlessly killing animals for sport, I would be all for it. Also, the bhang part comes from puratan battle history too... it is a more natural painkiller than popping pills which I am sure you would do if you were in significant pain, I do not condone drinking it for Sukh and 'bliss' as this should only come from Gurbaani and your connection to Waheguru.

@@garrysingh8957 they are keeping the tradition alive. The guru requested all Sikhs to be ready for battle at all times. Spiritual battle within our minds and physical battle if needed. That's why gatka is learnt.
The nihangs are keeping that tradition alive.
Go see them in person, it's as if you've gone back in time. It's beautiful.
The tilak on the sword is to bless the sword. The swords they use for practicing the style of gatka as instructed by the guru. An uncovered sword demands blood. The animal is not wasted and as they were also blessed by the guru to consume meat so they have the strength for battle.
They live the same way as how they did since the beginning. Alot of Sikhs these days have become materialistic. These guys aren't materialistic.

Just to clarify, as a nihang scholar myself. The Jhatka ceremony (ritual slaughter) of the goat 🐐 is primarily for the community kitchen. However the ritual application of the blood to anoint weapons (tilak) is as a means of blessing the animals hereafter, as well as continue the understanding that weapons are sacred tools that take life and not just ornamental. it's not like a sacraficial ritual or anything, he meant he was referring to shedding the blood of the animal by killing it at the special occasion like the festival in comparison to always hunting and killing animals randomly, and they use all parts of the animal and kill it primarily to eat the meat and don't waste the blood which is usually drained and thrown out.
and they do it this way themselves as opposed to buying meat from the store which is indirectly supporting the bad quality of meat farms.
Also wanted to add context for the weed, since the nihangs live more of a warrior lifestyle, they used it in the past as a sort of pain killer from injuries in battle and to focus on prayers and clear their minds in the middle of intense situations like war, its a controversial thing because normal sikhs living their everyday life dont need it since they arent going out and fighting battles since a very few number of people still use it to focus on prayers and clear their mind. Most people dont need it or use it since its done 3-5am and is generally peaceful enough for everyone.

Compassion is highly advised to sikhs so they raise the goat humanely and then they slice the head from the back because the animal dies instantly and doesnt feel pain. It just looks gruesome but if you think about it, factory farms are worse as the animals are left in the most inhumane ways. The khalsa does not kill for "Sacrifice"

    Hello,
So since the British took over Panjab.
They changed a bunch of things
    1. Long beards (they made us tie it)
    2. Long three foot swords, they made is the small daggers we see
    3. Our turbans, the nihangs the tie it is what our 10th guru tied. That’s what the Singhs back then tied. The British turned it and changed the design)
    4. Opium (in the smaller quantity for medical - purposes. Even elders over 50 today consume small amounts to keep their blood healthy and
    Bunch of more benefits.
    5. Shaheedi Degha - cannabis infused protein drink. (Contains 5 leaves of cannabis with all types of nuts and seeds)
    5. Jhatka- all Thakts(Sikh authority thrones) had jhatka happened few times a week to make sure the khalsa remains ready for war to make sure all dietary requirements are fulfilled.
The people who will go against this,
Will never have read our historical scriptures and they will make their own meanings out of things.
Their lens in which they view sikhi has changed.
The same people who will say these things are wrong, will never be Able to defend themselves when time kicks off.
    A famous Sikh shaheed
Shaheed Bhai Avtar Singh Ji Bharma
Jhatkange singh of Baba Bidhi chand (nihang dal)
Most of our sikhs today view sikhi from neo lens.

    jhatkamaryada.com
They have gurbani and historical references to everything :)
Listen to those who have learnt from someone. Not those who have never themselves studied any historical or religious texts.
    Watch them complain now.
Our gurus consumed meat and cannabis.
From the same historical text that we learn everything else from.
But they don’t like the truth because they themselves cannot live to It.

thank you for reacting to this video 🙏🏼
some doubts that viewers may have in regards of the traditions upheld by the Nihang Singhs will be answered below.
    1) the herb prepared in the video is called the "Shaheedi Degh" (elixir of the martyrs) . It is made out of grinding various herbs in a stone mortar and wooden pestle until they become paste. Cannabis is one of the ingredients used in the process which helps the Singhs to recover from their journeys and other hardwork conducted throughout the day such as serving the horses, elephants, camels. Serving in the community kitchen (langar) and serving in the court of the Guru (darbar). The drink also helps in the meditative process of the individual and helps to combat extreme heat by cooling down the body, thus keeping the Singhs away from diseases. This elixir was blessed to us by the Gurus and was highly used at the times of battles as a form of pain killer. The Nihang Singhs still hold this tradition of preparing this drink despite numerous attempts to destroy the tradition and introduce drinks such as coffees, teas etc etc which the Nihang Singhs stay away from.
    2) Jhatka, which simply translated to "one strike" is another warrior tradition upheld by the Nihang Singhs. The animal is killed with one straight rapid strike to the neck, an opposite technique from the Islamic tradition of Halal where the animal is slit on the throat and left to bleed. Jhatka is a distinguishable tradition of the Nihang Singhs. The Khalsa has been performing Jhatka since the time of the Gurus, One is at liberty to choose for themselves whether or not they wish to eat Mahaparshad(the great food). Many oppose the tradition of Jhatka and the British tried to ban it. To clear up from the video, the blood is used to honour the weapons which have been extensively praised by the Tenth Guru within their writings. The skin of the animal is skinned and its used to make various items such as clothing, pouches etc etc, as well as battle drums and other musical instruments such as the Jori, the tabla, the sarangi and so on...
And finally its meat is cooked and fed to the Army which provides them the right nutrients and energy to live the nomadic chakrvarti (forever roaming) lifestyle that has been ordered by the Guru.

When Guru Gobind Singh Ji (The 10th Guru) lead the foundation of Khalsa, it was the time of Mughal rule in India where no one was having freedom to follow his/her faith. People of other religions were tortured very badly and then killed if anyone was not accepting Islam as their faith. So Guru ji made a sect which helps the poor and kill the tyrants. For this purpose Khalsa Panth was established and the ceremony where he called the 5 Sikhs and give their sacrifices was done to get the dedicated, strong, decision makers and helping candidates not only for Sikhism but for helping the people of other faiths as well.

That goat go bye bye is Jhatka,it is eaten, because one the Khalsa is the army,it isn't just for sacrificial sake, the animal is eaten!
And also it is also used to make oneself strong in the face of death so one doesn't flinch in war or fight,to be prepared
Other than that one can be vegetarian out of choice, cos Sikhi beleive eating or not eating meat isn't related to Spirituality, unless it's halaal, then we can't eat it
So the blood in the goat bye bye thing is used at times to put blood on weapons at times, but the animal is still eaten,it isn't like a sacrifice

10:00 to answer the question, it's not just a ritual. They killed the animals in a way where 0 pain is felt (since it's instance death). This is called "jhatka", and serves many purposes. A few purposes are for meat, keep the warriors skills with sword up to par, giving the weapons blood. This is the only way meat is permissible to a Sikh, if you can't kill an animal without it feeling pain, and in an instance, you don't deserve to eat meat. Animals in farming go through extruciating pain and inhumane living conditions, and even worse is 'halal' meat where they slit the animals throat.

Hi Melissa I get your point over blind devotion. And when 10 th guru asked for a head Sikhs already had the context of 5th and 9th guru giving their head for truth. And there were many Sikhs who sacrificed their head with 5 th and 9th guru and said we will die with you. So giving head to the true guru was not new to them.

It’s not an animal sacrifice. It’s killing of the animal for purpose of eating, using its flesh for making instruments/weapons and then, giving some blood to the swords.
Remember, the way sikhs believe Guru Granth Sahib(text) to be the living Guru. In the similar fashion, the weapons are also treated as living consciousness of the shakti(the divine feminine).

In order to survive they gotta kill animals for food, even in hard time they used to eat leaves to survive (so it's never for taste of tounge). If they carry this thing in present time that's for future, what i think, bzc you never know what kind of problems or hard time you may have to face in future. Being warrior you can't always be soft hearted.

I'm a Nihang Singh that practices this Code of Coduct created by Guru Gobind Singh Jio Maharaj for generations. I have family in UK and USA that also practice this freely as Jews and Muslims do with Halal and Kosher. Animal slaughter in Sikhi is called Jhatka. Jhatka Jhat=Quick & Ka=Kill, salute and slaughter. Some Sikhs eat Jhatka and some choose not to, it's a choice. Muslims and Jews have Halal and Kosher. Jhatka is only for Sikhs, Hindus, Jains and Buddhists. Its forbidden for Sikh to consume Halal/Kosher as the animal dies a slow, painful death and were as Jhatka is quick and painless plus no distress as the animal must be calm, relaxed and meditated (as seen in the video) it's all about being compassionate. After slaughter, the animal will be prepared for Langar but this particular Langar is called MahaPrashaad meaning Great Food or some refer to as warrior food for Nihang Singhs so they may keep fit and strong so they can defend the weak and poor. Also every part of the animal is never to be wasted meat will be eaten, skin used for drums or sheaths for sacred weapons, bones made into handles for sacred weapons and some for musical instruments for kirtan usually drums. I hope this helps guys. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa! Vaheguru Ji Ke Fateh!

Not all the Nihang Singhs are non-vegetarian . There are some of the Nihang Sikhs who are Non vegetarian because they are warriors and require a heavy protein diet so they have permitted to Kill animals for food but not in a large number they are killed in a just few number and not daily . They are sacrificed only on special Occassions of Nihang Singh's.

    Hi guys,
The thing which comes about sacrificing animals, the full body of the animal is used here. The skin is used to make war drums of the Khalsa, The blood is used to annoint it to weapons as 10th Guru said that weapons are a form of god as they kill your enemies and keep you safe. Most people think that Sikhs are not allowed to eat meat but it is not so. Sikhs are not allowed to eat meat killed in the Muslim way called Kutha but can eat this meat known as Jhatka. Also This is done to keep the Singhs ready for war cause some scared people can't even see a drop of blood while singhs are fearless and they are ready to do this anytime. Anybody who finds this as animal slaughter, 10th Guru said that the Khalsa is the purest of the pure and by killing this animal, they provide it liberation
    I think this will help u 😁

Eating animal is purely everyones own choice.. but killing anyone with so much pain is hard to see for many.. thats y some nihangs nowdays use guns as well.. nihangs sect eat meat.. not other baptised sikhs.. but they do there own jhatka..

These nihang sikhs have been warriors since the times of Guru Gobind Singh ji. In most of Indic reliogions, meat consumption is not adviced for the one who is engaged in material word but those who are warriors are adviced to deal with the death. The killing of goat is called Zatka which means providing painless death. Sikhs and Hindus never eat the meat which is produced by painful death of animal like in Halal method.

Yes the goat killing is a sacrifice but that sacrifice is eaten afterwards by the Nihang Singhs. This event is called "Jhatka" which means death in an instant. The killing is not an offering to God but the weapons. Khalsa is the warrior tribe and is always ready for war, so to keep their weapons war ready they have this ritual to maintain the momentum of the drive.

In regards to the creation of Khalsa,
The Guru did kill the Goats using Jhatka (literally means instantaneous) way, which was likely eaten as Sikhs don’t do animal sacrifice, and yes it was a test to see who will devote to highest ideals of Sikh way and value it more than life itself.
We think God would be pleased if we don’t have compromise on our highest moral code irrespective of loosing our life as life itself is temporary phenomenon and a martyr that dies for a righteous cause (In any context, not just warfare) attains immortality.
Immortality can be viewed from different layers of analysis in Sikh context. I think it’s a way of saying that the spirit lives in the collective memory and subconscious of the community and metaphysically the martyr merges with the timeless being. It’s the highest honour in Sikh faith to be a martyr. The Guru teaches us not just how to live life righteously but also how to die and really recognise the impermanence of life so that we can aspire to die for a righteous cause to inspire the living.
I know this is hard to grasp from a western mind’s perspective but these ideas have a lot of philosophical depth that cannot be discussed in a TH-cam comment haha.
    God Bless you guys. ❤️

When Guru Gobind Singh ji created the Khalsa, he needed strong believers. He needed people who are devoted to his cause and his vision. He told the crowd that he needed a head. And when the first volunteer went up he took them into the tent and the crowd could hear a definite thud of a sword hitting something. And then you see Guru Gobind Singh Ji walk out of that same tent with his sword dripping of what looks like blood. He does this four more times to gather the first set of the Panj Pyaare (the 5 beloved). When all five people went into the tent and none of them came out, the crowd was shocked period but then one by one each of them came out fully dressed in beautiful clothing that was to be the uniform of the Khalsa. Right afterwards Guru Gobind Singh ji asked the five beloved to anoint him as one of the Khalsa. And it was at that point that he took Amrit

Another reason I heard for the Chatka/goat beheading is when the sikhs would go for battle back then lot of people were afraid to take a life or even see blood, to rid of that fear and to be able to go battle huge armies this ritual was made, so the sikh warriors don't hesitate in battle. And the belief is that weapons need blood to keep in good condition and in a way the weapons are worshipped as they were used for bringing justice and fight against the evil mughal empires at the time so I guess the blood is a way of 'feeding' the weapons. This ritual is used by nihangs only, who basically try to follow most traditions started back in the days, the nihangs creation was mainly for the battles you can say, warriors. Otherwise animal cruelty and rituals are kinda forbidden or not supported in Sikhism.

There's 1 more reason to kill goat (I watched all the comments and can't see this).
Usually it's difficult or almost impossible to watch blood or someone dying. Cutting the animal in front of all makes a person emotionally strong.
The reason behind that is, if there's need for combat to save someone, the fighter should be ready to face consequences and should not hesitate during process (hesitation in between fight often cause loss/failure)

  • @Goopsta
    @Goopsta 3 ปีที่แล้ว

This is the way of the warrior / Kshatriya dharma. Once you take baptism (via the sword) you then have to be adorned with weapons 24/7. This way has been preserved by the Nihang Singh’s (the Beloved army of Guru Gobind Singh and their commander his son the prince Fateh Singh). If you adorn a weapon you have to learn to use it too. Chandi/weapon has to be offered blood as without this practice you are simply living a life of ritual fancy dress. The goat head chop that freaked you guys out is the ancient way of decapitating an animal in the most merciful way (also it is blessed by the sword and hence baptized food aka mahaparsaad) and is served to the Singh’s. The skin is used for battle drums etc Nihang’s are beyond right and wrong as they have attained the epitome of blessing from Guru Gobind Singh, they hold no karmic action as they have trancesnded into a life of total submission and warriorhood, living a life of acting on injustice and not being bystanders in rollercoaster of life! Akaaal

brother in northern parts of india jhatka was the ritual to do sacrifice and offer our godess chandi or bhawani, that was done only before going to war. india is the highest population of vegitarian. most of the current martial rituals like this has its origin from vedic period and because of the geographical region most prominent regions that us to practice all martial custums were state like rajasthan, also let you know rajasthan has the highest population of the vegitarian people even in india. in todays world we also have that ritual in rajasthan but there is a diffrence ,because in todays world we are not at war so for only the sake of offering blood to our weapons as a ritual once on the festival of dusshera we slightly cut ourself and do the ritual. but here in this case with nihang singh because of the origin of tribe was in the time when punjab was very much in the war from the muslims in that area , so the sacrificial right and other martial traditions that came from the rajputs of rajasthan to the punjab and guru gobind singh accepted those traditions , they became the ritual for every year. so because the entire origin of this tribe is on the basis of kshatriya custums(vedic custums for warriors) this became their identity of life, so they do it every year as if they are in war always. Also brother our indian custum dont allow to take the life of animal in a way that it feels pain so indian tradition is anti halal. Also there is rule that we should never pull our weapons out or if we have to, then it is a ritual that it sould drink the blood and if dont have one then you have to cut even yourself. So there is a saying in rajasthan that it not that india is the teacher of non violence because it is coward, it is because that we know how to do the violence greatest.

The code of conduct and the ethics/values of the nihangs have always been a controversy. Well, the nihangs are the 10th guru's most fearless, loyal and favorite army. Till date they have maintained themselves as they were 300 years ago. They do mock battles, carry the battle arms and ammunition and fight for injustice if any. The killing of animals is prohibited in sikh faith and all rituals and sacrifices are abolished. But the nihangs have an age old practice/ritual where they kill animals as a ritual. They do it in times of peace so that the army does not become fearfull of blood. It kinda ignites the soldier inside them.

So be very honest the jatka ( sacrificing goat ) is the controversial topic because from the shri guru nanak ji philosophy killing and eating animal's is very wrong... But i will have to say that with time some people tried to change and sell the original context holy books ... And changed the original text ..

You are correct..There used to be 1 Sikh religion in the past. But after the gurus and over the period there were many things injected into the religion to dilute it and make it alot more manageable by the governments (Local Indian rulers and British as well). The old religion was undefeatable. These new many groups of sikhism are manageable. Remember Divide and Rule? Now they can be ruled by govt. They can be made enemies of each other... Still one thing connects them all is the Guru granth sahib ji. Everyone is connected to the guru. Thats is the last hope, maybe one day sikhs will start reading Gurus words themselves and be one with the guru and all unite again.. But govts will not let that happen as if that happens, they will emerge as a very strong force and will rule... How govt does it, they train their agents for years in Sikhism, get them to look like sikhs and then inject them into committees of power within sikhism. These agenta then constantly look for opportunities to dilute the religion into a state of confusion, so every group thinks what they are doing is right.. Lets see if this religion reunites in a lifetime or not.

@internetrabbitholedaily ANIMAL BLOOD IS USED BECAUSE THE SWORDS NEED BLOOD ON THEM AT MAJOR FESTIVALS. IN ANCIENT TIMES HUMAN BLOOD WERE USED FOR SWORDS as fighting was going on so in modern times they use animal blood to keep their blades feed.

Guru Gobind Singh then addressed the audience: -
From now on, you have become casteless.
No ritual, either Hindu or Muslim, will you perform nor will you believe in superstition of any kind, but only in one Totality who is the master and protector of all, the only creator and destroyer.
In your new order, the lowest will rank with the highest and each will be to the other a bhai (brother).
No pilgrimages for you any more, nor austerities but the pure life of the household, which you should be ready to sacrifice at the call of Dharma.
Women shall be equal of men in every way. No purdah (veil) for them anymore, nor the burning alive of a widow on the pyre of her spouse (sati). He who kills his daughter, the Khalsa shall not deal with him.

“You will love the weapons of war, be excellent horsemen, marksmen and wielders of the sword, the discus and the spear. Physical prowess will be as sacred to you as spiritual sensitivity.
And, between the Hindus and Muslims, you will act as a bridge, and serve the poor without distinction of caste, colour, country or creed:
My Khalsa shall always defend the poor, and 'Deg' - or community kitchen - will be as much an essential part of your order as Teg -the sword.
And, from now onwards Sikh males will call themselves 'Singh' and women 'Kaur' and greet each other with 'Waheguruji ka Khalsa, Waheguruji ki fateh

Nihang singh are the warriors of sikh religion the word nihang mean crocodile.
Pople think that it is the animal killing but the thing is that only a living thing can make you to live we eat plats they also living. The word hola mhola means making attack situation to always be ready for any situations or war . One more thing of dropping blood on the sword is that the nihang Singh are worriors they shouldn't be afraid of any thing or they can not be weak. In the battlefields when you attack on someone he will also bleed but you cannot be weak. Some people fall down when they even see blood

Don't say it brother now people will start saying plants dont have pain receptors but these fools will never know this is the way of life this is how nature works. In order to our survival we need to take a life dosen't matter if its a plant or animal or they feel pain or not....Even we read in our 10th grade that we can digest meat easily as compared to veggies. Our body, human nature was never meant to be vegetarian.
