    Hey! I'm actually one of the students whose been involved in helping students with their accommodation issues. I'm one of the committee members of the Stirling Students Tenants Union which is a group of students who help other students living in Stirling with their accommodation issues whether you live on or off campus. Unfortunately we are still working with the university to end the fee they charged students for leaving. The fee has not been cancelled they are just yet to chase students up for the fee. They have also charged some students beyond £400 despite saying there was a limit in this fee. However we are making progress in our union with the university! We were able to help students who couldn't collect their belongings they left in accommodation by arranging volunteers to pack up and store their belongings for them until they come back to Stirling. We were also able to meet with the university and secure a support fund for students who had to pay travel costs to come back and collect their things or the costs for hiring moving/storage companies. As we're still in the process of working with the university I hope we can continue to secure things that will help students. I also hope this gives some new students some peace of mind there are people here to help you if you run into any trouble, not just housing issues! Our students union has also been doing their best to help students with all sorts of issues. If you have any questions about accommodation or worries please reach out to the Stirling Students Tenants Union.

      Thank you so, so much for this comment Merryn. This is a wonderful insight into the situation, and I am just so sorry that this situation still has yet to be sorted.
      I have pinned your comment so that everyone watching the video can read it, and contact you if they need help! ⭐
      I will update my description to show that I was incorrect in saying the university had 'sorted it' I appologise for this, the source I had may not have accounted for everyone.
      I hope that I can be of some help in shedding light on this situation, and hopefully this video will help to show the university that it still needs solving. Is there any petition links that are still active that I can put in the description of this video and share on social media?
      Thank you for all of the continued help and support you give as part if the Stirling Students Tenants Union. I will pop my email below and let's see if we can make a difference for students together 💕🤗

    I´m a 2nd year and I totally agree with hwat you said about COVID, I´m an international student and had to leave in a hurry last year. I had been told I could leave stuff with uni storage box, but because I left in such a hurry that wasn´t possible. I was really lucky bc on of my flatmates from last year kept my kitchen stuff in her flat here in Stirling, bc that would have been like a hundred pounds worth of stuff.
    Also remember some students doing a strike last year outside of a uni building and therefore being kicked out of accomodation and suspended for like eight weeks around january/february. They were basically kicked out on the streets.
    They need to start learning from the criticism they´re getting. I love Stirling and am enjoying my studies here, but my god there is a lot to improve.

      Congratulations on your offer! It is always best to ask the university directly, but from my personal opinion, here are some answers!
      1.The accommodation ranges from about £85 per week to a couple of hundred depending on which accommodation you choose.
      2. The part time job opportunities while at university are pretty decent. You can usually find a job in a bar, shop or cinema etc.
      3. I believe there is a good martial arts club, but you can find it all on the union website :)

    That’s so horrible about how they handled accommodations with the pandemic! Charging extra is ridiculous to leave early, and kicking them out when they literally have nowhere to go is horrible. I haven’t thought about how US colleges handled dorms with foreign students. I know they kicked everyone out but some of these students literally have nowhere else to go

      oh and speaking of parking there’s plenty of it at the university I’m transferring to next year BUT it’s an extra $200/year and you have to bring a car it’s one of the most spread out campuses in the states. If I didn’t bring a car I’d have to walk probably 5 miles just to get from class to class so I’m forced to pay the $200 🙃 they didn’t even refund students that last semester when schools closed and they weren’t even using the parking

      My friend in Americs is being sent away this semester and not allowed to return to America for university. It's because there is some new rule that if your classes are all online, they don't believe you should get to stay or live in the USA 😥😥
      It is exciting that you are headed to university though 🥳🥳

    Hi. I'm an Italian liceum (high school) student at my fourth year of studies (that means I'm at the penultimate year of Italian high school) and I'm eighteen years old. The "road" I choosed for my lifetime is to become an Anglo-Saxon teacher in Scotland's high school. I love Scotland - the Country and its people - and I choosed to make university studies there, directly. On the web I didn't found so much how about entering university in Scotland from Italy. Can someone advice me? I found Stirling University by chance during my researches and I was impressed by it.
    Post scriptum: Sorry if I excuse me if I misplaced some grammar. I am working hard to learn the language better.

      I think that choosing to become a teacher sounds wonderful!
      I am completing the postgraduate teaching in England, at another university. However, after 4 years of undergraduate at Stirling I can say it is is one of the nicest universities :)
      It has a good rated teaching programme also. I have multiple friends who took part in it and enjoyed it a lot. If I am not mistaken in Scotland there is also a 1 year teaching job guaranteed at the end of the course :)
      If you are considering Scotland also consider the old unis like Edinburgh, St Andrew's etc too 😊

    • @TheLazzzyStudent
      @TheLazzzyStudent  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I love this!! I totally didn't realise you guys don't call it a high street over there 🤷🏻‍♀️🤗
      A high street is basically the main street/road that shops and business are on! Over here in the UK, our busy main streets are in the centre of a town or city. It's a shame because our shops are dying, with loads of businesses going bankrupt! People are shopping online so much more! (Amongst other reasons!)
      I have actually spent a few months in a couple of US states, and I haven't really seen the equivalent of a high street. Over there there's big shopping malls or what I would call little shopping villages.. We don't have as many of those, but your cities are generally super spread out. I was in South Carolina last summer and we drove past a Chick Fil A, a bank and a funeral home all on one road next to each other 😅 What is up with that 🙊🤷🏻‍♀️

      The buildings are confusing, but it is okay. Even lecturers get lost if there is a room change and they totally understand!
      Freshers week is great :) I was so surprised that there was classed starting during the week during our first week!
      Some friendly advice: go to all of your lecturers and sit near the front during the first week. Introduce yourself to your lecturers. When it is a Sunday night and you are stressing about an essay, they are the ones who will help you get an extension 🤭 Make sure they know your name!

      Getting around uni is quite good actually, everything is on campus 😍 you can get anywhere within a 10-15 minute walk! (Depending on how fast you walk!)
      Its nice rolling out of bed and walking to a lecture with just 10 mins to spare 😴
      Canpus is also bike friendly too! As long as you don't mind one or two hills!
      Jobs in town are quite good, although I can't say for certain with Covid...! I would say that they can be a little competitive, with it being a student town but the cinema and shops are always hiring! It is quite easy to get bar work too, so just be sure that you keep on top of looking around at online job boards and walking through the shopping centre to see what is being advertised in windows 😇

      You can also find jobs through Stirling's specific TargetJobs portal. These are often good because they are not advertised on things like Indeed.

      The Lazzzy Student the place was wayyy too small for five people (not enough room for everyone’s food, only one toilet, only 4 people can really sit comfortably in the living room). The walls were incredibly thin (could hear my housemate with a different guy every night until like 5 am despite me asking her to quiet down or just do it on weekends). The rooms were small (like single jail cell small) but strangely enough not all the rooms were the same size and it didnt matter that you all paid the same rent, two people were gonna get bigger rooms and there wasn’t anything to be done about it. The rent was kinda cheap but with everything considered, not cheap enough 😂 plus you had to walk quite a bit to do your laundry (and pay) and the cleaning crew didn’t come often. Lastly, I had black mold in my room and I told them about it five different times and it took them a month to do anything and by that time I had already left for Christmas break. The only good things about it was that it was close to classes and it had a pretty cool hike behind the chalets with a good view of the castle and monument.

    • @TheLazzzyStudent
      @TheLazzzyStudent  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh my goodness, that genuinely sounds horrible 😭😭
      I have actually heard of this accomodation, I just didn't know it by name (until now!) Someone I know stayed there a few years back and they said, and I quote, 'The walls always felt wet.' 🤮 They also complained about black mould, so I guess it is a running theme 😭🙃
      It genuinely sounds so uncomfortable to live in and I'm sorry you came all the way from America to go through that! I really hope it didn't dampen your overall university experience 😩 I don't know how they get away with this, surely there are hygiene laws or something 🙃

Ngl it kinda did ruin my experience because I had two housemates (the one I talked about above) that were absolutely horrible people and made my life a living hell which unfortunately caused me to sink into a depressive episode which inhibited making more than one real friend. And right when I was on the track to going out and exploring, the whole pandemic hit and I had to go home. I was only there for this past year and I wished I had done more and moved out haha. Apparently you’ve never gone to university in the US. The student housing is light years better than the dorms on US campuses for the same cost for most of them. Daughter’s masters from University of Stirling will cost about 1/3 of what it would cost in the US-including airfare to come home for Christmas. As for the issues with COVID…It completely sucked at every university. Universities did not refund money for housing, tuition, or food services not used when the campus’s shut down. COVID sucked no matter where you were at.

    Hey!! Thank you so much for this video! Appreciate your work! I hold an unconditional offer letter from UoS for MSC Data Science in Business, will the uni help international students with career guidance and employment after graduation?

    • @TheLazzzyStudent
      @TheLazzzyStudent  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey! Well done on your offer Rajas!
      I am not affiliated with the university, just a previous graduate! However, in my experience, the university definitely can continue to help people when it comes to jobs.
      After graduation you can join the alumni programme, and there are job boards and opportunities which you can be a part of. The university says that they continue to support you even past graduation, and I have found that in many cases, they do!

    Is there any disabled/blue badge parking spaces and are they also always full?

    • @TheLazzzyStudent
      @TheLazzzyStudent  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a good question, and so vital! I find there are only a handful of disabled parking parking spaces in each university car park. They are not usually full. However, some buildings could be more disabled friendly. I’d be more than happy to explain anything further if you feel like it would help :) I got to know the buildings quite well during my time there!

    I saw your profile as I searched for University of Stirling. I'm planning for Ms in business analytics from Stirling University and as now uk offers 2 years post work visa. So are there good chances of landing a job in Uk.
    Please suggest.

      Good luck with your Ms in business analytics from Stirling! Job opportunities are generally quite good in Stirling, but I am afraid I am not an expert on this.
      Definitely utilise your careers advisor whichever university you decide to go to :) They will really be able to give you a great idea of the job culture in the UK.
      Best of luck with everything :D
