Back in the early 1970s as a young teenager I would spend school holidays picking fruit, potatoes, peas and beans. Some farms gave tokens to show how much you'd picked then at the end of the day you'd show your tokens and get paid by the amount of tokens you had. Your lb token with 35 on one side just might be a similar token.
Great thinking Robyn. And yes happy memories I’m sure!! 🍓 I used to fruit pick as a kid but think I ate more than I picked and usually ended up sick a day later 🤪
I picked so many blackcurrants that for MANY years I couldn't even stand the smell of them let alone eat one. Lol. Peas were the vegetables I loved to pick. I had to walk the 2 miles to get to the fields first, but the money was good and I'd get a tan in the fields as there wasn't a scrap of shade anywhere as it was an old aerodrome.
What a gorgeous sunset! I love it when Simon joins you - he is such a great sport! No matter what you all find it is so much fun to get to join in on the finds👍
Oh my goodness! What a great day out with Simon! And oh my, the views are gorgeous. That sunset deserves to be in a painting somewhere. Thanks for bringing us along ❤
A bit late on the catch up of your digs but it was worth the wait! Great to see smiley Simon out with you again and firstly what a beautiful sunset view 😍. Also please don’t chop your thumb off for more viewers as we won’t get to see your finds cleaned up so quick 😂. Amazing variety of coins and interesting relics and love that little bead.
John, here's a tip I discovered by accident. Whenever you find old glass items (marbles etc.) hold them under an ultraviolet light. The glass may be uranium glass, and it glows under the rays of an ultraviolet light source. I recently found a chipped candle stand that was coloured green, but under the ultraviolet light it looks as though it's lit from within. As for Simon, I'm a big fan of seeing Smilin' Simon out with you! My God, John......that vantage point of looking at that field with the setting Sun was remarkably beautiful! You live in the most beautiful country in the world, with the best people! Those tiny "compact" boxes might also be old snuff boxes.
I feel very educated by you. I was watching The Bondi Treasure Hunter doing Detectorville pulling coins out of the ground and he's saying "I don't know what this is, maybe Roman"? I'm yelling at the TV "No, Victoria Penny, Dirty Berty, George X, Edward, hammered copper!" Well done with your explanations!!!
There are certainly a lot of coins in that field John just a shame they’re not the preferred kind of silver or gold, never the less a decent days digging with a nice lot of finds and, good to see Simon out and about again .
Thanks, I saw the "wcastle Tea Company" and the word "transferable" in the center, but I couldn't make the rest of it out. I'm guessing that would buy a lot of tea, if they mean a half a pound money wise. This stuff is very interesting to me, I have no idea what they did with these things.
@@mattj6676 they were used as currency/advertising, but could only be used in the shop that produced them. So, this token for instance was used as a marketing piece and would get you a half a £1 worth of tea. Which as you mentioned is a lot of tea back then! LOL
Pretty good day coins and relics for everyone ya gotta empty your finds case the silver is scared of the ring and other grubby coins lol thanks for sharing see you on the next one👍🏼👊🏼 p.s. great sunset 🤩
I love watching your videos, especially when you have someone with you. I'm jealous you have really good fields in Perthshire, unlike me in Greater Manchester.
Hi John. Loved the video as always. I was pleased to see it was a good length video and I have to say I personally love seeing Simon out with you. There’s a mountain of knowledge he needs to learn from you and he’s a genuine guy you can tell. I think you bounce off each other well lol. Cheers from Roger 🤗👍
Wonderful! Great variety of finds, good deal of history in those fields. 😊 So good to see you both having so much fun and success. Not to worry, silver on the next dig. But that sunset! As you say, gorgeous. ❤❤❤
John was wondering if your first find was a leg of a salt box or something of that kind. Jenny from Adelaide South Australia love your shows and Simon and the boy's 😊
Many thanks. I do them as long as I can but ultimately it’s the amount of finds that dictate the length, and recently there hasn’t been much for me, but soon some silver maybe!!
My husband always comments "oh, got your Scottish boyfriend on again?" He jokes, his family comes from Shetland. Love your channel, every new episode is a treat. Wishing you more treasures soon.
gorgeous sunset! Is that the Grampians in the background? THree pence has a THrift, or seathrift. I keep seeing you on Andy's short films. Wallace monument is the latest. You get around.
Great vid as always John!!! Have Simon set his 800 on Beach 2. Sensitivity at 18 and recovery at 6 and iron bias at 4. Tell him to try it for a couple hrs. Be sure the all metal horseshoe is on all the time!!! He will be surprised!!! Congrats on the goodies guys!!! Goof Luck!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
The item at 24:30 is a hinge mounted door stop. It allowed the door to only be opened partially. They still make them today, usually with rubber "bumpers" so as to not mar the door or the frame.
The item just before 36:30 is part of a drawer pull. You would have 2 on each side of a long drawer, like for a china cabinet or a buffet. The ends of the handle go into the loop with the prongs toward the center. This way the handle would lay flat against the face of the drawer when not in use. Thanks for the video.
Nice watching with my coffee and toast before my dog and I go for a blustery cold walk. Good to see you two finding coins and things! Maybe a battlefield?🥰💕❤️👍👍
The unusual markings on your musket ball is an imprint from the ramrod where it rammed home. It must have been a very tight fit in the barrell or the barrell was very dirty from black powder residue. From a former black powder muzzle loading rifle shooter. 😊
The item of Simon’s that you did not pick up at the end looks like the handle of a trivet, raised on little feet to keep a hot item off the surface of the table.

That sunset is gorgeous! Much more than George. That man minted a lot of coins! Love seeing you two together!
Hola! Another wonderful and comedic episode of Faulty Furrows. Dig on!
😂
What a gorgeous sunset! I love it when Simon joins you - he is such a great sport! No matter what you all find it is so much fun to get to join in on the finds👍

The pointy thing that you jokingly said was a training spear is the point of a fire poker. Got one in my house.

A fab outing with my two favourite detectorists. Such beautiful skies, too. Thank you 😊
Glad you enjoyed it, see you on the next dig! Simon will be back soon

Yahoo! Happy to see you're back at it John👍 Good luck!
Thanks! Hope you enjoy
Thanks for sharing the magnificent sunset! Your videos inspire me to visit Scotland!
Wow! That sunset was absolutely breathtaking! I think your token at 42:00 is a 1876 London & Newcastle Tea Company half lb check token.

Oh, boy! You are with Simòn!😊

A great day. The closing shot of the sunset was stunning!
Stunning detectorists and the red sky's not bad
Simon is so cute on your videos! I hope to see more of him!
I love watching your videos, especially when you have someone with you. I'm jealous you have really good fields in Perthshire, unlike me in Greater Manchester.
Great finds, and the sunset shots were a nice bonus!
One day Simon may make an epic discovry! Great video as usual. Cheers!

Wonderful! Great variety of finds, good deal of history in those fields. 😊 So good to see you both having so much fun and success. Not to worry, silver on the next dig. But that sunset! As you say, gorgeous. ❤❤❤
Thanks Maureen. A good day and nice to see Simon smiling after his bad dig the day before where he was treated awfully. Have a great weekend
@@thescottishdetectorist Thanks, you as well.
John the metal tapered thing looks like a end of a fire Poker
Watching the Scotland, wales match and saw your post at halftime very satisfying evening
And we won by one point 🥳
Awesome finds, keep digging and you'll be back on the silver before you know it.
Great video
Always great see Simon.
Well, steady on….. surely better seeing me 🤣 I love this big fella… what fun we have together
John was wondering if your first find was a leg of a salt box or something of that kind. Jenny from Adelaide South Australia love your shows and Simon and the boy's 😊
Thanks Jennifer. Glad you’re enjoying the videos! I’ll go and take a look online for similar example.
Best wishes 🇦🇺 🏴
Simon is back! Good to see you and John also.
Quite a paint job. Good hunt guys
I really enjoy the long videos you do. Silver or Gold!!!
Many thanks. I do them as long as I can but ultimately it’s the amount of finds that dictate the length, and recently there hasn’t been much for me, but soon some silver maybe!!
John, and Simon! A good day of digging, and for me a good day that you showed up! lol
Thanks Patty. Glad you enjoyed
Your bead does it glow. love the 1896 coin my grandfather birth year
Nice finds, beautiful Sunset
Thanks Nancy. Glad you enjoyed and have a great weekend s
Great to see Simon and yourself on a long video!
My husband always comments "oh, got your Scottish boyfriend on again?" He jokes, his family comes from Shetland. Love your channel, every new episode is a treat. Wishing you more treasures soon.
Another enjoyable outing with the terrible twosome! 😂 Always interesting to see what you both find and listen to your amusing banter. 🙂
John, your greatest find was that amazing sunset.
Brilliant as always...Best nugget.
gorgeous sunset! Is that the Grampians in the background? THree pence has a THrift, or seathrift. I keep seeing you on Andy's short films. Wallace monument is the latest. You get around.
I don’t mind looking at Simon either😊
Always a good watch 👍👍👍
Thanks bill. Glad you enjoyed the video

Glad you enjoyed Nick 🐟 and see you on the next
Looks like cowboys riding off in the sunset . Like an old western movie. 😊
The drawer pull looked like a small seal matrix.
I hope you recorded the location of those musket balls. It may be the site of a skirmish in one of your wars.
Hi Robert. I’ve got them all logged but I suspect with the high banks behind us more than likely deer hunting but I keep an open mind for now!
Hi John, another great video. The people back in the day, must have been incredibly poor to loose so many pennies, but no silver.
Nice watching with my coffee and toast before my dog and I go for a blustery cold walk. Good to see you two finding coins and things! Maybe a battlefield?🥰💕❤️👍👍
Thanks Terry. Enjoy your day and dog walk!! I think probably deer hunting …. Maybe!!
The minute I saw Equinox 800 I knew who'd be with you. What a character!
at 24:30 I believe is a hinge stop. You put them in the hinge to stop the door from hitting the wall or in the case of my door the metal radiator.
You and Simon, the Laurel and Hardy of the 21st century 😂😂
Glad you enjoyed. 🤣 he kills me
I like Simon, he is a heck of a lot more cheerful than those other dour characters you usually dig with, enough said!
The sky is amazing 😻
Isn’t is just 🤩
I was born in the wrong country 😢 I’ve always wanted to live in Scotland!
Never say never!!!
😅 great "safety spear"... too funny
I wonder if that bit of copper could have been used an early soldering iron eg for leadlight type work?
Thanks Richard. Good suggestion!!
Woohoo John and Simon 👍👍💥
Sorry for your suffering 🤣 enjoy!
20:50 Soldering Iron bit? They were copper or copper alloy.
The unusual markings on your musket ball is an imprint from the ramrod where it rammed home. It must have been a very tight fit in the barrell or the barrell was very dirty from black powder residue. From a former black powder muzzle loading rifle shooter. 😊
You guys are great together, you should get Simon a microphone so we can hear him better
The item of Simon’s that you did not pick up at the end looks like the handle of a trivet, raised on little feet to keep a hot item off the surface of the table.
Amazing thanks!! 🤩
