It's been bugging me, I used to think most American accents sounded either 'sterotypically southern' or stereotypically LA sounding kardashian, or New York sounding Joey from friends. BUT there are so many! I've been watching Riverdale, and bettys accent was bugging me as it was so noticeably different to the others. Now I know it's this accent after checking she is from Ohio! Sounds literally like her!

Just my opinion as i went to school in Ohio and live in California now, other than calling soda 'pop', Midwestern accent is basically neutral like hers.

Spent my early days in Minnesota and this is how I sound lol
However I pronounce it as pee-can, crayon as cran, and New Orleans as New Orlins

    • @guard3745

I know this is from nine years ago but, just wanted to add my Midwestern two-cents. The second question is talking about roly-poly’s (some people might call them pill bugs?), and I’ve always pronounced it New OR-lens, rather than New Or-LEANS.

@Zylon Tex I'm from Ohio and unless you're talking to an older Ohioan, I don't think we have as much of an Upper Midwest accent as Minnesotans do.

That's a really nice accent to have! :) I was listening to the BBC's film review program, and they mentioned the 'Midwest accent' when Henry Cavill was talking about Superman. I didn't really know what that meant, so it's helpful to hear an example! In Wales I think we would answer some of the questions the same way but 2) would be 'a woodlouse', 4) 'trainers', 7) 'Nan' + 'Grandad', and 8) 'a trolley'.
