    Thank you, Don. I surely appreciate all the time and effort you've invested in these D74s. I've been watching your videos for about a year now and finally put together my first MMDVM hotspot with Pi-Star. I also caught you once on the local repeater when I was passing through Chattanooga but got out of range before I could make contact.

    You are a lifesaver! I have been banging my head against the wall for two weeks! I finally succeeded at adding a local repeater that was not in the programming the radio came with! All thanks to your video! I look forward to using what I have learned for a hotspot which is next on my shopping list. You ARE the man!

    Don, Thanks for all the great videos. I've had my D74 for a week now and I decided to get it after watching several of your videos. I wasn't happy with performance of the ID-51 Plus. This is defiantly the better radio for me but I'll probably keep the 51 around for testing hotspots and other things. If Kenwood were smart they would Link all your videos on the product page for the TH-D74. Thanks so much for all the work. ~KB9YEN

    Best video help ever for Dstar programming ever on the Kenwood! I would love Kenwood to consider a Dstar dual band mobile radio! 73 from K9WLW!

    Does the Kenwood have a similar feature to Icom’s “Auto DV Set” where you can basically key down on a frequency hosting a D-Star repeater and it auto-populates all the call sign data once it receives an acknowledgement?

    Hey Don, I am also from Chattanooga. Have been out of radio for a while but I plan on getting back in as soon as our country gets back to business. This radio interest me because I understand it has voice guidance. I am blind and that would be a big help. Are there any other radios that do this?

    Don, I added my openSpot2 in the list as you showed in the second half of the video, and I would like to make a change to the entry. The unit will not let me edit or clear this entry, yet I can edit or clear the other repeaters in the list. Is there a way to remove it and enter it again? Thanks for any help.

    What serial number radio is your D74? I have a D74 that I purchased three years ago and It does not have the capability of editing the repeater list that you are showing on your video. Did you do a firmware upgrade? One thing I have noticed is that the D-Star website does not have much support for any other radios except Icom. That is a sad thing and it puts Icom and D-Star and JARL in a negative position. If they want other radio equipment companies to use D-Star they had better provide the support. It is just one more negative thing about ICOM.

    Does this radio have a dstar gate function like the icom radios. With my 9700 i can go in the gateway and select one of the repeaters to connect to with an open spot

    Please use the correct terms for the radio controls. The center knob on the top of the radio is the tuning control. It is not the "encoder". If someone had been reading their manual and had become familiar with the names of the controls used universally by the manufacturers they would be confused about where the "encoder" control is.

    This vid is helpful, but I wanted to know about adding a PL tone to the repeater. Does it automatically pick that up, or how do you add that info. Say the repeater had a PL tone of 127.3?

    I bought one of these new from HRO Atlanta in late December 2017. Two days ago it just stopped working; nothing whatsoever. I know I will have to send it in. Just curious if you have heard of this being an issue with this radio. Totally love this radio, but disappointed my high dollar Kenwood is being outlasted by my Wouxun.

      Had same issue with mine, died within a week of owning it. It was replaced promptly and i chucked the included charger back in it's box and got the drop-in charger. No problems since so far. I did buy the extended 4yr warranty just in case though.

    Don, not sure if you can help but I've had no problems until today. I have my hotspot in my repeater list but the radio will not show it when I go to select a digital repeater. If I go into the menu and to memory then repeater I can see my hotspot category and all the hotspots I have entered. For some reason though the radio just will not see them in the repeater select list. I've gone into the system and done a full reset, I've even uploaded a backup of my settings from the MCP software and so far nothing seems to work.

      @bmmcwhirt 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I managed to get it working but I have to contact Kenwood. If I add a repeater with an offset not in one of the existing regions it will not show up. I have to not have an offset in the edit repeater screen then set it in the repeater list screen. I think this is an MCP bug as I just downloaded the latest version 1.03.

      yes the same Idea remember to match the module and gateway info that your open spot has. DVAP is DIRECT most others are your callsign then B in 8th place (rpt1) your callsign 8th place G. (rpt20

    I did everything as you did it. But when it comes time to select my hotspot from the repeater listing, the hotspot show up on the list, but pressing ENT does not select that hotspot. Pressing ENT just takes me back to the last memory channel I used. I was able to load data from the radio after this procedure and copied and pasted the row of data created by your procedure and then have access to it in my regular memories.

      I was having trouble with this one too, from the main screen (not in a menu) use the down arrow and don't just tap it; press and hold for about a second and the Repeater Select menu will pop up. This one took me a while to figure out as it looked to me like he was just tapping it. Doh!

      But I bit the bullet and did it and it works!!!! Now how do I get the D74 to transmit on 30 Charlie? When I key up now the hotspot goes to D Star mode and I see the radio on the Digital Dash Board. But it is transmitting in the open and not to a specific group.
