William Link and lifelong collaborator Richard Levinson co-created the long-lived television series' Columbo and Murder She Wrote as well as other crime dramas such as Mannix. They won multiple Emmy and WGA Awards and nominations for their television movie and series writing and producing. As I see it, the only actors who would have successfully played Columbo (besides Peter Falk, who was perfect) would be Walter Matthau or Jack Klugman. Either one of them could have been great, too. Can you imagine if there was a different Columbo? Thankfully, we have Peter Falk. I can't imagine Bing Crosby as Columbo. He was too polished and debonaire.
