I grew up watching dozens of Gilligans Island reruns, and I must say that Sherwood Schwartz was a great sitcom creator, and probably Norman Lear’s biggest rival.

A clever man. His best shows ("Gilligan's Island", "The Brady Bunch") have remained fresh and relevant because beneath the frothy surface there was real depth and substance.

Schwartz indeed DID become a Doctor of Entertainment.

Fascinating history. He created shows that left an indelible mark on me.

Schwartz was certainly talented and really tells a great story! Not surprising, given his writing acumen.

I'm 3 Degrees away from Schwartz. I met a man who was in special affects and set design. His Father apparently worked for Red Skelton for 20 years & he (the son of) worked for RED for nearly 10 years. The Guy told me a few stories about RED Skelton show & family. He claimed to have dated some of the people whose children were his age in late 50s.

He also told me that his JOB when he quit in 2005 would pay $15,000 dollars a week for his experience, knowledge and his artistic capabilities.

A sad tail in that the world was denied so many doctors due to prejudice but karma gets its way in that the world got some classic TV shows.

God had other plans for Sherwood Schwartz.

Fascinating and dot to dot you see how improbably things lined up for him as well.
... for instance as a G.I. nco he was rubbing elbows with AD Companies GI Commissioned Officers that he would deal with after the war during the early days of t.v.

What a genius.....to realize that Red Skelton's show could be so much funnier with less VERBAL jokes, and more VISUAL and body language jokes......

Sherwood Schwartz's description of the vindictive firing of his brother reminds me of President Trump's firing of Alexander Vindman's brother
Yevgeny for no reason but evil spite & revenge.

SS Was A Skunk! Gilligan's island! Alone Made MILLIONS! Does He Share That Fortune With The People That Made It A Hit? No Not a Dime! Alan Hale Jr. Actually Had The Skippers Cap Bronzed! And Gave It To SS As A Gift. Bronzing Something Doesn't Come Cheap. In Both Tv-Series Gilligan's island And The Brady Bunch Talked About The Importance Of Sharing With Each Other. SS Sure Didn't Practice What He Preached. It's A Small Wonder Why Tina Louise Hates Gilligan's island! The Creator Of Series Was A SOB!

Not sure if Sherwood got all the residuals or had to share with United Artists and Paramount. I heard Sherwood say he had to sign a contract claiming United Artists and Paramount are the creators of the show.

    •  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@johnhanselman6371which is true he confirmed it in another interview. He did receive residuals for the rest of his life.

Has there ever been an interview from Hollywood without bringing up segregation? For a guy that found it hard to believe they had separate water fountains in the army he sure didn’t write too many stories with a ton of black people. He should’ve had the S.S. Minnow land on Haiti now that would’ve been a riot. 👩🏿‍🍳👨🏿‍🌾👨🏿‍⚕️👩🏾‍🦱👨🏿‍🔧🎅🏿🧜🏿‍♂️🙋🏾‍♀️
