Thank you for the great video and for the written instructions that help people with some difficult to understand spoken English (like me). Greetings from Italy !!
Has to be a Cannondale Ashton or Diamondback Effect 24" next to go with the Hawyes. A Pashley Ed Tongue 24" would be cool too or Orange Zero Petr Kraus. Seeing this makes me want to relive my youth and watch Dirty Tricks and Cunning Stunts and Chainspotting! The Norco Leech was one of my favorite bikes ever, it started my love for steel frames. A Pashley 26mhz would be nice too or a Curtis T1 or T24! Covering all basis haha
When I was a teenager I bought mbuk magazine. 1 issue had Martyn Ashton and martin hawyes on the cover. They were in Malta trials at popeye village. 1 on Volvo 1 on giant. it was that day I tried to turn my Raleigh activator into a trials bike lol. I loved that giant.
My very first dedicated trials bike was built on a 14" cross country version of this exact frame. Looked identical except for round downtubes. Unfortunately the triple butted frame snapped a year or so later, but this brought back some memories for sure. Looks great Ali!
I remember this bike from the movie Biking. Me and my brother used to watch it on VHS all the time. He went on to become pro and I gave up eventually, Just dabbling in trials from time to time lol
So relaxing! Been loving watching the restoring videos recently, restoring old ww2 torches and the like. A retro bike version is just what I needed! Makes me want to build my pashley back up
Hands down one of the best looking trials frames of all time! I want to say the next one will be a Norco for Ryan Leech, but I don't know how rare those are in the UK, so maybe a Monty for Ot Pi??
Wow. That is a beaut. I saw one in action in Stellenbosch (South Africa) back in 1997. Can't recal the Team Giant rider's name, but he performed with Hans Ray and Martin Ashton at the Downhill World cup.
Oh, for those of us who remember the Martin's, we're showing our age. Loved this frame. Would be good to rebuild an old Pashley 26mhz. I got rid of mine and with I hadn't!!!
I loved the style and editing. Don't give up on talking videos but it was just what I needed today and might be a once a month thing you could do! The cat bit was genius, that cat was so chill too.
Would be awesome if you had an Ashton Cannondale frame, with fatty r's in the same blue colour, with a set of hs33 racelines, on to mavic d521's with the grey ceramic coating. I've got a set of square taper middleburn rs7's with the pro titanium bash guard and built in sprocket (16t I believe?). This video was great, loved the silence with captions, great idea to aid with the viewing pleasure. Haven't seen one of these for a while. Awesome mate, cheers
the video is so satisfying ..... totally silent only bike parts noise.... i was little bit upset but after watching this video now i am in a happy mood... thanks sir #lovefromINDIA.. #fan #loveyourvidoes..... just waitng for the riding video on this BIKE
You went all out with tips, tricks and jokes on this edit! Really enjoyable video all in all! Nice to see some DIY engineering to solve small problems on bikes. Gives me ideas how to remedy some of my own in the future. :)
Man this is awesome, still the best looking trials frame ever IMO, cant wait to see how Hawziee's turns out too, even though #Itsnotafuckingcomeback it would be amazing if you could get him out for a spin with both of them! Cannondale next then?
I think I’ll grind the front when on my fixed gear. I added a front brake but the rim is painted so it doesn’t work too well. I bet grinding it would make it work way better.
No joke, it doesn't look dated at all I'd take it right now (MTB does not have that same appeal, retro bikes are cool but not in that I want one I'm not even nostalgic for).
Tell me you’re building Ashtons legendary Blue Cannondale? Or even Akrigs Pace - Both stunning classics. There’s a Pashley 26mhz on Evay at the mo, desperately want it as Eddie Tongue was a big inspiration for me as a young trials rider, but it’s not cheap!
Man... Ali this bike reminds me when I looked up to the martins in the 90s! Loved this bike build!! I had a specialised s-works! Like Jason McRoy had, along with cannondale p-bones polished forks. Race line brakes too! But I always wanted this gaint trials bike! Hope you have a good one on it!!!!
Hey Ali Clarkson! Great build vid! You always keep coming up with ideas to make it a bit different like this one with no dialogue! Could you use that crown race you cut upside down as a tool to hit with a punch on alternate sides to seat an unsplit race? Thanks for the effort all the editing takes! Your vids always make my day a bit better! Ride ride ride!
Best way to seat an unsplit race is to get a block of wood and drill a hole slightly bigger then the steerer in the block of wood, slide it onto the crown race and hit it with a hammer. Using another crown race runs the risk of denting or chipping the one you're fitting, which would make it useless as a smooth surface for bearings to run on.
@@Ali_Clarkson Works fine when you've got cartridge bearings, so the rolling elements in the bearing don't contact the crown race directly. I'm quite surprised that headset didn't come with a split crown from the factory to be honest. For loose ball bearings style headsets, the crown race is the surface the balls roll on, so it can't be slotted.
Been watching a bit too much 'This Old Tony'? Great video :-). Definitely need to build a red or blue Cannondale, extra points for getting one with a one of the headshoks with mechanical lockout.
@@Ali_Clarkson TOT rides moto trials too - it's interesting how many engineering channels also like 2 wheeled transport, Canada's premier silly engineering channel, AvE, also rides mountain bikes. He lives in Kanuckistan though, so he'd be crazy not to.
I was sold on the thumbnail. I managed to ride one of those at the Bike Show I think it was 99 or 00 at Birmingham. Good times. It looks awesome! I assume we'll get a video of you riding it at some point? If so I look forward to that.
Ali, Ive recently bought a wheelset for the Hope hubs for a build of mine. They came with a X lite Phatso rim and something other on the front. Both pre ground. No good for me, any use to you?
San pilgrim's bike magic is flowing through your veins
this caption style format was brilliant and engaging. loved it. the cat bit was truly funny.
Martyn Ashton Cannondale next?
It'd be sick to see a beast of the east again!

Question is what one the red or the blue
Thank you for the great video and for the written instructions that help people with some difficult to understand spoken English (like me). Greetings from Italy !!
I'm not sure Hambini would approve of that headset fitting technique 😅

Looks awesome Ali, an Ashton would be pretty cool next!
I'm guessing an old Ryan Leech Norco Moment is next! Steel is real!
Now that my friend is a trials bike (Chain spotting gang).. All that you need now is the Volvo Canndale frame to complete the set..
Never happier to see Scottish rain. Great build👍

I love the parts being thrown into place. That's an incredible skill to master! :D
Who needs a pedal wrench?
Nice.. I used to have a thing for the Martyn Ashton blue / yellow Cannondale frame also.
That frame is drop dead gorgeous.
The next frame should obviously be a red Cannondale like the one Martyn Ashton road in Dirty Tricks ans Cunning Stunts. A pure classic this movie !!!
That’s awesome, I miss my riding days, I had two giant team trails, this colour and the blue and silver one... good times
Ali your sense of humour is top notch! Love this video, really relaxing and made me chuckle countless times.
Love the still of recording. Maybe some 20" next? My bmx heart would like to see more 20 inches 😉
This is the best thing I’ve ever seen.
Odi longnecks are the best non clamp on grips hands down! Wore through countless sets in my bmx days.
This is like a combo of my mechanics and Sam Pilgrim! Loved it!

Can we crowdsource a lengthy disclaimer from the YT resident lawyers so that the cat can show us how to make brake pads?
Looks good. Hawyes was a beast, loved watching him ride.
Looks like you learned that headset install and tire install from Sam Pilgrim haha! Love it!! Neat bike! Can't wait to see you ride it!
those clear brakepads though 😍 you gotta add some leds lol
It’s really great 👍 to see another classic bike back in action, very cool 😎 indeed.
Wanted one of those back in the day . The next should be a red and yellow cannondale or the blue and yellow one that came later .
Ali Clarkson I knew someone that was given one of his red ones by him back in the day . It was sooo nice to get to ride it once .
I don't know why but I found this video really cool and absolutely hilarious
What a classic. Really tight geo. I got a Pashley 26Mhz frame in the garage
Ali Clarkson not sure my body can take it anymore. I do keep looking on eBay for something cheap
That is beautiful!!
the pedal mounting beats every sam pilgrim magic trick :D:D:D

Cannondale team Volvo in blue. can't beat it, in my view at least
@@judechandler5102 Yeah, that would be more likely for the UK
Jude Chandler 100% agree. Although Akrigs Pace was drool worthy
@@BurningChariot just had a look, not heard of it before. That thing is epic. you're right!

"Grinding rims with Adam from Tartybikes" 😂😂😂

Wow. That is a beaut. I saw one in action in Stellenbosch (South Africa) back in 1997. Can't recal the Team Giant rider's name, but he performed with Hans Ray and Martin Ashton at the Downhill World cup.
What a video. Was really different not having some sort of naration. Really enjoyed the captions though. Can't wait to see whats next.
Im guessing either a Cannondale or an Ashton for Martyn? Love these parts bin builds! Keep it up Ali. 👍
Nice video Ali. You're going to do awesome things with that bike. I hope you have alot of fun!
