There’s such a unique charm to all your build videos, and whether or not you go to the effort of making a rigid script they’re always seamless as well. Might be my favorite bike content to watch tbh
I film with a rough narrative, sometimes I’ll add something if it comes up but when I’m editing is when I come up with the script…I’m glad you like the videos! 🤘🏻
Believe me, this is the best video ever. It's perfect. I have watched tones of videos and this contains everything a person may be looking for. I have a DJ bike, and you have given me some ideas to make it lighter. I used to think that those rims were not appropriate to hold the jumps. Thank you for sharing this. Such a hero.
That's definitely one of the sickest bikes I've ever seen! Love the idea of doing this dirt-trial crossover. If it is controllable, then this would actually be the perfect bike for my style of riding. And I love the colour, it just fits 👍 In my opinion the best build besides the silver and the red Hex. Hexes. Whatever...
Thank you! There’s no doubt this type of bike can be ridden to a high standard for street trials, look at Chris Akrigg on his mongoose fireball for proof 👍🏻
Oh yes, saw this and am now having a trailside break! Definitely an interesting gear ratio for an average dirt jump bike but I'm not even surprised to see it here🤣🤌
@@Ali_Clarkson funny enough 5 yrs or so ago I converted a jump frame to a trials bike. soon found out I'm not very good and slowly covered it back. But if I get the chance I might still try a fewtrials moves. A bit tricky when you a approaching 50 and are built for riding Exmoor. 😄
Nice build Ali,oh the irony, you release this the day I pick up my purple flip pre ordered Trek mtb. Although I am not a trials rider, and never likely to be ( I am now 53) I do find your videos both informative and entertaining..keep up the good work. :-)
Ali, this was so inspiring. I had gone done a DJ path 10 years ago, tried to ride it as a street trials bike, but it was such low quality and heavy, I got rid of it. I would like to revisit this myself, but have so much invested into MTB now. Classy paint work!
Gorgeous ride! I have never built my own bike up, but if I did, and money was no object, I would do something like this. The paint job looks fantastic! Nicely done sir!
Yeah! Can't say how much I'm excited seeing this build! DJ vs Street trial was exactly question I was thinking for a while and even asked my favourite pro - you. Can't wait your next videos whis proper tests and opinion! Thank you, Ali, you are always doing our life little better. For last year thought about exactly that Dartmoor and Pike combo vs Extention Drax for my training bike for street and trials learning. But bought slightly used Czar Ion 24", for cheap. Hope it will hold some abuse)
Wow sweet build! You must have read my mind, I’ve been recently contemplating building a dirt jumper/trials bike hybrid. Looking forward to the finding out the answer to the question, although given how you can shred a fat bike it might not be so applicable to us mere mortals 😁
Yeah I think this style of crossover bike could be a great type of bike for a lot of people…even if I’ve had a lot of trials practice I’ll try and be honest with my opinions 😋
Hey Ali Clarkson! The only way that paint job could look cooler is if it had a few battle scars! Hope you and Jane Black have a nice day! Ride ride ride!
Aside from a Namaiki, which was the original street trials bike, I've only ever had converted dirt jumpers. Usually with gearing options to cover both types of riding in one bike. I altered a rear shifter to mount to the seat post clamp for bar spins.
Man that’s awesome to see how much love you put into this bike build, and it absolutely shows!!! It came out amazing, I can’t wait to see you ride that thing
That rotor twist tip might actually fix my mystery rotor rub on my commuter. Absolute genius! I can tell you'll be keeping this bike because you're putting frame protection on it. Would love to see you do some dirt jumping on it as well as trials.
@@Ali_Clarkson I'd tried literally everything to stop the rub, to the point of bending brand new rotors out of true. The rub stopped but you could tell they were bent. Your tip stopped all of that. Braking is smooth and consistent in a way it's not been since I built the bike. Thanks so much!
@@davidwashbrook9885 I couldn't follow what he meant by "twisting the rotor" - twisting as if the rotor was being grabbed by the brake or twisting out of plane?
What a super cool bike and a nice video!🥳 I love this simple idea with the splashes of paint and wonder why more people haven't thought of it before. Thank you very much for this inspiration. I've been thinking about what my new design on the bike could look like for a long time.
that is a super sexy paint job and build dude, love it! not sure if someone has already suggested it but you should get yourself some chain half links, they can help dial in your chain length to fit in the dropouts better. BMX companies like shadow conspiracy make them, get the cute thief on the case :)
Glad you like it! I thought half links would come up…they’re kinda ok for BMX or bikes that don’t have high torques but trials is extremely tough on chains and the design of a half link chain with the curved links just doesn’t work…they end up being straightened out and stretch so much you have to constantly adjust the tension and they eventually snap
I run a half-link chain on my DJ bike (a 3/32" Gusset SLink) so I can avoid running a tensioner but still get the wheel as far forward as possible. They're not compatible with thick/thin chainrings though. Sick paint job BTW 🙂
@@Ali_Clarkson That's good to know, I've been thinking of trying out a trials conversion on it (i.e lower gearing, longer stem). It's a SanatCruz Jackal size long which has adjustable wheelbase *and* a mech hanger so would you mount a tensioner there or something else with better obstacle clearance?
Very cool to find this. I am considering a tweak along these lines. I am tempted to try and make a modern spin on the original "stock" MTB trials bikes. I hope to take my Specialized P2 DJ bike, add one gear and either a short derailleur or manual swap spring chain tensioner to have a 2-speed bike. I'd like a typical DJ gear ratio along with a trials one. Currently looking at a 30t front with a 14t for DJ and slipping in a 25t for trials. I'd like something that can still rip on the longer street rides and and the DJ park, but also allow me to swap quickly to a trials gear for kicks and hops. Thanks for all the info and inspiration. Always great to see your attention to detail on builds like this.

Hey! For frame protection, I recommend DYEDbro, their decals fit every bike colour and does a good job for style and protection.
