- I am showing y'all another art journal page from start to finish. I am doing this in a dylusions art journal using magazine images, apple barrel paints, ink, gesso, and paint and gel pens. I really get into to some finger painting on this one. :)
I've been experimenting with paint over magazine images to learn the best ways to do about it to not get wrinkling and to get the maximum fun and stress relief out of it.
The paint I used was just cheap ol' Apple Barrel that I bought from Walmart ages ago for 50 cents a bottle. I've learned the key is to use it over a layer of gesso. It primes the pages and makes it so much better.

Hi, I'm Jenn. I live in a tiny town in Tennessee. I love doing fun and easy art -especially collage and mixed media journal pages- as a way to relieve stress and give me an escape from my daily grind. I work in a very conservative and rule driven environment. So, these little art projects of mine have become my form of therapy.
There's little better to me than sitting down and ripping up a bunch of magazine pages, getting covered in glue, and splattering some paint and seeing where it takes me. There's no worrying about rules, terms, judgments, or anything like that. I just go with it and have a good time.
I really like these pages, the colors are WONDERFUL. We all need that bit of happyness.

FYI Gesso is used to prime a page, canvas, etc. so the paint sticks to the surface. It's like when you are painting a wall and you have to prime the wall before you apply the paint color. :)

I know it’s been a year, but do you remember the name of the pink Apple Barrel paint? Also, Folk Art is actually a really old, good brand. I think Hobby Lobby’s cheaper one is Craft something or other.
I think the shade I used is Candy Pink from apple barrel. And I totally need to hit up hobby lobby and look through their paints one day. I work close to one but I'm afraid to go in for fear and taking home the whole store lol 😊

In the beginning? It's just regular protein powder. Premier protein I think. Lower in carb than a lot though. I'm trying to get into protein shakes but it's a struggle 🤣
