- The Star Van Mercedes camper has a very large rear slide out - so much so that when the slide out slides out the increase in floor space has to be seen to be believed! See the video and you may too believe in slide outs!

I live in a motorhome full time and travel around Europe in it. I spend most of my time in Poland, Germany and Italy. Vanlife is my life.
In my TH-cam channel, I present reviews of recreational vehicles. Here you will find campervans and motorhomes from the cheapest camper vans to the most expensive luxury liners, from various companies including Hobby, Hymer, Carthago, Westfalia, Wingamm, La Strada, Frankia, Wavecamper, Maurer, Dreamer, Itineo, Rapido, Clever Vans, Pössl, Bürstner, Niesmann Bischoff, Action Mobil, Reisemobil Manufaktur, Robeta, Trigano, Challenger, EuraMobil, Karmann Mobil, Laika, Forster, Mobilvetta Design, Affinity, Globe Traveller, Benimar, Roller Team, Adria, Bocklet, Woelcke,Tourne, Megamobil, VW, Mercedes, CS, Renault, Ford, Fiat, Carado, Sunlight, Baileys, Chausson, Balcamp, Knaus, Weinsberg, Murvi, Bliss, Mitsubishi, Woelcke, Reisemobile Bürow, Holzmobil, Giotti Line, Florium, Fleurette, Ahorn, Westfalia, Space Camper, Orange Work, Concorde, Womondo, Protec, Auto Sleeper, Dethleffs, Ilusion, Gehocab, Malibu, Pilote, Wild Ax, Vantage, Bresler, Tom's Fahrzeugtechnik, Morelo, Swift, Carado and others.
I do this by regularly attending trade events such as CMT Stuttgart, Abenteuer und Allrad, Caravan Salon Dusseldorf, Warsaw Caravan and Camping Show and sometimes others.
I cover equipment, including 12v electrical equipment and talk a lot about lithium batteries.
I also show some of the places I have visited in Europe in my own motorhome, as well as the places you can stay at! I try to give as much coverage as I can to official campsites and free places which I use for overnighting. Therefore you can find here the aire or stellplatz that you are possibly looking for.

Brilliant. Best I have seen.
I love the view outside from the bench. I want more like that
He had really cool ideas for his vans!
Actually if you Google Roadtrek ideal SS back in 2010 they were doing a rear slide model it only lasted 2 years we actually passed one this past weekend on the road, it's like seeing a unicorn.
Thanks for the information...
Would be nice if it was sold in the U.S. ....
Best camper van ive seen imo, but 140k is just too steep
it's a bespoke van, so people who want this would pay at any price.
Have you seen an Airstream Mercedes Sprinter van RV? They are close to $300,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I paid $60,000 for a Sienna minivan. This is way better than that. Hopefully I can get it used one day.
The Thor Dodge ram conversion is excellent. Few little things that could be improved, which is common in any vehicle that you get. I paid 180 but I'm sure they are more now. Very very comfortable with a pull out queen bed, big fridge, nice kitchen, and roomy shower. Not sure if they're available in Europe.
Wow, ingenuity at it's finest, love both slides.
Hats off to Ralph, this is absolutely superb!
I agree Dougie - superb!
Very nice and cool luxury best campervan mercedes sprinter Alan, yeah!!!💯😯
Absolutely brilliant, great to see this Alan, real innovation and seems superb engineering for that slide out.
I think it is amazing MIchael - the load weight is out of this world on something like that!
Love to have this added to my Jayco Terrain 19Y but I need a tall garage in the rear for my kids' dirt bikes. Awesome concept to now market though.
I just got a new electric bike and it does not fit in the garage of my vehicle. I never considered that that might happen!
An excellent design that works to eliminate the inevitable compromises that exist in each and every leisure vehicle. Naturally, the components necessary for such a design push up the price and also allowing for a bespoke design that allows the customer to take it even further is going to cost. A high price ticket van, but one that I can understand and see where the money is going. I only hope that they find enough of a customer base to keep them in business and help bring the cost down through mass production.
Same as vw double back which they stopped making due to expensive 😊
Great idea please bring it out asap to uk market
That was the company 👍
Best use of space I've seen in a van conversion so far.
Instead of a hard side slide-out, why not use metal bellows construction so can retain most of internal width ? Then inside just have mostly couch, with a hard inflatable portion to form the bed. Love the shower.
Perhaps instead of extra bed popping up a “pop up” seating area would go there for people to relax in a larger space 👀😍
I never normally comment on videos but this is SUCH a good design, I’m mightily impressed 👍
I don’t know why more companies put just 2 seats in the front. And face them against the door. Great idea
Amazing concept and cheap for America vans… when are you bringing this to US? I would suggest an extendable counter to the right of the sink to make use of all the created space
Very good ideas in those vans, trim quality looked good too.
Oh they are killing me. I thought I would be the first out with these two ideas.
Wow, dancing is civilized😊
Slide out bedroom is great. We also need slide out shower please. We need a little more space in the showers.
The slideout can handle 4kg (which translates to 881+ lbs.) but how much of that is the weight of the mechanism and mattress, I wonder.
💚That’s An Awesome Design!😍
If the bed could converted to a setee with lagoon table , it might make more sence of the compromises made to gained the extra space
I agree. It seems that the open "floor space" is basically unusable except for standing in. You couldn't put a comfortable seating/lounge space there because when the slide pulls in that space entirely disappears. It makes for a comfortable looking bed area but with no windows on the sides or back it seems cave-like to me. Of course many people like the cave like sleeping spaces and actually I do as well but not in place of comfortable sitting space and the ability to have natural lighting and opening windows for fresh air and views when wanted. Regardless it is an exceptional looking vehicle that is much nicer than any and everything that I will ever be able to afford.
Reminds me of the old vw doppelback that was a flop
I don't understand. If seating is still in the front, why do you need that extra open space in the back?
it allows you to have a small van but a big bed.
It creates a space to perhaps get dressed or just keep a few bags and luggage internally
Excellent
Crazy funky German. But interesting.
what about security, when you have the extension out? obviously, your going to be on camp sites, and in car parks, over night, what if someone tries to break in, just a thought.
If that slide out ever gets stuck in the out position your messed up till I can get it fixed
Amazing👏👏👏
fantastic Ralph
Not a new idea - there was a company doing the same with a VW Transporter a few years ago...
I’ve seen a similar slide out on a VW conversion
Doubleday - that was around ten years ago. I think they built just one.
Is it bear proof ?
Genius!
Great idea to increase space one pulled out but compromises space inside for storage/kitchen units doesn’t it?
Everything with campervans is a compromise Phillip!
Genius! 🤓🤓
Actually 1,75 is quite short for a northern European man.
Exactly, here in Holland it's about the average length of a woman (1,71) 😂
Give d guy a break… it adds to his ego that he thinks he s tall😅 what he doesnt know wont hurt his feelings😂

The problem with slide outs in Europe is that , there are only legal to operate in Campings or private land, but illegal to deploy in public spaces. Anyhow it looks wonderful congratulations!!!
Which law is it against??
@@samuelhall02 When you park your vehicle in a public domain you are not allow to extend the dimensions of your car, like opening side windows, extending your owning lifting your car with leveling legs (wheels must always be in touch with the ground) if you do so is it consider Camping and that is only allow in designated private locations , but as I mention it might very depending on the european country.
@@carlosleon1972 so which law is that against?
@@carlosleon1972But you can park a pickup truck, or older style station wagon with the tail gate extended.
This is the law that regulates overnight and camping in Spain: the General Directorate of Traffic in the General Traffic Regulations. Specifically in Chapter VIII, articles 90 to 94) and Instruction 08/V-74.
States that camping is consider when extending the owning, side windows or any element that will protrude the public road beyond the legal vehicle size. The only way to extend slide-outs in Spain legally is in a camping or private land.
looks good but you loose the upper cabinets storage
Very nice camper. How well is it for the winter.
I would hope the insulation is premiere but I admit that I forgot to ask.
Wonder how the water sealing works?
In the US problems with water sealing are common. In this case, the vehicle is too new to know!
I will come for one and drive around Europe then to Africa and beyond.
I would worry about rain water infiltration running down through the top of the slide out
How waterproof is the slide out.
I know that is a big problem in the US but not so much in Europe. I suppose time will tell in this case.
So when is this available in the US?
What are the wheels on the smaller van?
Great design… I’m Sold.. I think the price is right.. when did they come into the US?
Just in Germany I am sorry to say!
How tall is the van overall? Wonder if it fits in a garage
Very cool, is this Europe only or is there a US one?
Steve, this is just in Europe, I don't suppose that they have built many of them either.
Copy of the Doubleback right?
I'm not convinced that there's any advantage to this over a long wheel base van.
I’m not convinced there’s any advantage to this over a short wheelbase
So he just admitted unless you want to have the world smallest dance floor in your van there’s no advantage and of course there’s lots of disadvantages including extra weight subtracting from your cargo capacity, very expensive design and having to park somewhere where you can extend it out so you can forget about Boondocking
Speaking of looking out the door at the view his design prevents you from looking out the back doors at the View
What is the patent number and is it a Design patent or a Utility patent? What countries is it patented in? Patents only cover a specific method of solving a problem, not ideas
Don't see how you could patent this idea when it is already out there
Bocklet has been doing this for over 10 years
Are you sure? I know Bocklet and have never seen anything like this.
@VanlifewithAlan check their DAKAR 693E model, the rear slide out is a much better implementation of this concept as it doesn't take up usable living space when not extended.
What do you mean you gonna run out of weight on the Mercedes chassis first. he’s added weight to the Mercedes chassis with his slide out so there is no free lunch
How to buy it from the US?
What about -35C
Wow , great idea . Though at the very top of my price range .
Alan I'm looking for a 6mtr ,to live in full time 3 / 4 berth 😊
It's a good design but the interior looks gloomy .
Very Teutonic.
If they did pure white it would be brown after you took it off road a few times
Oooooh ? the infamous 'Sprinter' that at 100,000 Miles is Completely Worn out and Virtually worthless because it's too expensive to fix and No One will willingly buy it. ??
Great Choice Klaus

The non north American rv builders are the ones to watch, here in N America the builders are just rip off artists who moved on from building crap horse trailers.
Narrow LIttle Italian Streets?
Looks like it adds a lot of weight and the inside is too dark not enough moving space
Honestly while an excellent invention. I do not really see the point of this. Yes you slide out and make the room bigger, but its not like you can "utilize" this extra space in any significant way, or are you gonna store a lot of stuff, put it up when you extend, and then take it down and store it after you take the extra room back in?
I also got concerned by how you clean the top of that thing, i'm assuming it would be wise after a windy night or a rainy one to get a ladder and swipe the top of it. Otherwise you can potentially drag insects and what not into your van, which will then smear against the ceiling.
Instead of using the money to put that in, I would rather have a lift bed, with flares on the sides, and maybe on the back and a bigger skylight. Things would be much more permament and yes you would of course lose the 1.2 meters of space that you would gain with the extension shown in the video however at the same time that is one component less to be wary off and maintain, which would be quite pivotal. Since I can imagine how sour it will be and how small your van will feel if something goes wrong since at that point(with the room extensions) your bed is laying vertically, and not horizontally or even a worse scenario. Lets say that something happend either somebody hazed you or anything and now you cant retract it.
Also the bed dimensions are not that huge(which the room extension). 1.40m width is quite narrow if you are two people, considering the people this would be advantageous for are people that are above 2m. Most people that are above 200cm often have broad shoulders (not all, but generally yes).
Not to mention in the summer, the whole point with a van is that you can open up the backdoors, and have the whole nature outside, which already makes the van bigger for "free". Also one of the benefits of having a smaller compact van is to be a bit stealthy, this goes out of the window with this, as well as regulations in countries that were mentioned by other people in the comment section down below.
All of this is of course from my perspective and my opinion. I'm really glad that people are working to make vanlife more attractive, however for me personally that kind of money investment makes no sense, since there are other more effective ways to make the van feel less narrow, in my opinion.
The concept of sliding out is very good by it ‘s implement in this design isn’t suitable
300 lithium batteries😳
Was is 140,000 Euros or £'s
To dark for such a small space
Only 2 pros, you driving a 6 meter van instead of a 7,5m and you have longer bed aprox 15 cm but it is much narrower ..Αnd a lot of cons no windows, looks like a cave, you have 1,5 m space at the foot of the bed with no use,no wardrobe,no cabinets over and around the bed,the table is enough only for a plate and maybe a glass..I gues Its fine if you travel alone only with your flip flops a t-shit and a paire of jeans
JUST CONVERT THE ENGINE TO RUN ON AIR. AWESOME STUFF. JUST SAYING.
