I had the good fortune of seeing this lineup of The NightHawks many times while going to Va Tech 1976-1980. My favorite was when they opened for BB King.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Spent our honeymoon following this band up and down the east coast. Saw them at the Mamouth, NJ state fairgrounds. Bruce Joined a warm up band, we didn’t know it was Bruce (all 50’ covers) so we sat on the ground waiting for the Nighthawks while the crowd looked at us like we were going to die because we were disrespecting the BOSS. Bruce looked like a kid having fun.

Thanks for the Up. mobilevideopro!. Who are you? I had no idea this was recorded let alone in video and that's me doing the introduction. My Bass player brother and I built that stage from scratch back when it was owned by and named "Joe's". Mark got in touch with me to let me know they had a rather long trek in between gigs on this tour and could I help. I contacted Campbell Stanton who ran the Paonia FM station, KVNF, and was my band's drummer for a time and he negotiated with the new owners who had renamed it "Cheers".
The place was packed beyond belief. My band opened but the Hawks tore the roof off the place. This was back when Jimmy was still playing the shit outta guitar in this, the breakthrough band for all the guys, including Motown Pete, the fantastic Jan Zukowski and the short-lived but excellent addition of Greg Wetzel on piano. If you think you might enjoy getting a feel for the opener check this out ---

EDIT: Almost forgot to mention the mix was utterly amazing and that place was a nasty echo cavern but The Nighthawks' soundman, Bosco, was a serious Pro, too and later went on to do monitor mix for SRV. It was a star-studded night in Western Colorado that night! Thanks again
ALSO - Are you the Gary that owned the record shop in Delta?

Yes it's me, Gary Cavalier. Is this Mr. Hanley? If so I lost contact with you. Awesome my friend. Thanks for the compliments!

@@mobilevideopro Of course! You earned it and yes that's me. I didn't survive the Exxon Shale Oil debacle for long enough and missed out on the Hotchkiss/Paonia Reunion where I'd hoped to play. I've tried to reach my old band buddies and just read that Randy is now playing with the Heavenly All Stars (RIP bro) but I have had zero success with contacting anyone. The only member I was able to reach was Lee, drummer par excellence. Aside from catching up I wanted to share a CD I transcribed from a few Fourplay shows but only managed to get one to Lee so far. Three of the tunes are now up on my youtube channel as well as a smoky Blues Club tune from after I left Colorado. If you'd like to hear any of those start here th-cam.com/video/O2zaciTyzmg/w-d-xo.html.
Great to hear from you, Gary, and a real pleasure to know you still love good music!
