At the Forefront of Adventure and Architecture: Pioneer Courthouse documents the National Historic Landmark's recent renovation -- including installation of a state-of-the-art base-isolation seismic protection system -- and presents the long history of this exceptional federal building.
The 1875 Pioneer Courthouse in Portland, Oregon, is one of the more than 200 legacy properties under GSA's stewardship. The film was created as part of GSA's mitigation for the renovation project, as agreed upon through consultation under the National Historic Preservation Act. The film is also part of GSA's efforts to support the Preserve America initiative encouraging Americans to explore and enjoy our nation's heritage. It was produced for the Center for Historic Buildings, Office of the Chief Architect by the Video and Broadcasting Team, Office of Citizen Services and Communications. The stone for the original part of the courthouse came from the quarry on the Snake River that was owned by my Great-grandfather and his brothers.

I'd love to see a special about the Portland Hotel that stood on Pioneer Square. Its hard to find videos about it on here because its name just leads you to a lot of random videos relaitng to Portland hotels.

I think the Meier&Frank City center lot stood there actually, but I could be wrong...😁

Definitely a lie regarding the date when the Courthouse was built. Sure there no existing blueprints of this building. It's easy to see one, or maybe even more floors in the ground caused by the Mud flood. Otherwise, who would create the main stairway going into the higher floor? That was a reason why some guys wanted to destroy it as a witness of a different era like they did with many other ancient buildings in Portland, and across both Americas. Please, don't tell me that the original builders were building with underground floors on purpose. Thanks a lot to those who saved this piece of architecture from a destruction along with the Pittock Mansion.

It is documented in Judge Deady's own diary as to when the building was built and the complaints of citizens that it was too far from the Willamette.
