    A few thoughts to share... Full disclosure I own 4 Shirogorov's including the M-111(also a Neon, 95T, and a Russian Dr Death), so I may be somewhat biased when I say that though they may be "production" they are not produced in anywhere near the quantity of a typical production run, nor are they produced as quickly or as easily as a typical production. There is much more human involvement throughout the process. I have had the opportunity to handle full customs produced from the custom division of Shirogorov and can tell you that I can't tell any appreciable difference between what they call production vs custom. The fit, the finish, the action etc, etc is the same.
    As for the M-111 and details, notice how the carbon fiber handle is milled out around and underneath the pocket clip, such that the clip actually sits ever so slightly recessed. The tang of the blade has a uniquely milled pocket to catch and additional extension of the lockbar (never seen this done before). And for the viewers who might not have understood the term "MRBS", that would be Multi Row Bearing System and it no doubt contributes to the quality of the action.
    BTW, as a side note if you want to talk expensive production, look at Rockstead (some models are $2000) but just like the Shiros, worth EVER PENNY IMO
    Great review Nick, and BEST KNIFE channel on the tube!

      Couldn't agree more! I have had my share of knives, but the 111 in CF and M390 is head and shoulders above anything I've ever owned and ever will. Absolutely nothing negative to say about it.

      Here's something that not many people know either- every Shirogorov knife- "production" or custom division or full custom- every blade is hand ground.

    • @Zondidjejsj
      @Zondidjejsj 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are they still that way or has it gone more of a production direction in 2 years?

    • @Rothbardy
      @Rothbardy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Zondidjejsj as far as I know, Shirogorov have not changed their practices at all. Top-tier quality. They’ve recently announced that due to increased material costs globally, that they’ll have to slightly raise prices. So they didn’t skimp on quality when costs increased, they maintained quality and increased price.

    When photos don't do a knife justice, there's Nick Shabazz. Nothing I'll ever be able to afford, but seriously, great video, I really appreciate how I got to know this knife vicariously through your video. It really helps me see "What to look for" in other knives, and truly appreciate the small details and fit/finish.

    Great review, as always. I still can't get my mind around the fact that these are NOT custom knives...Every Shirogorov I have seen has been just beautiful in terms of design. And every Shiro I have handled has been perfect in fit, finish and action. I guess that level of perfection is expensive, even for a production knife. Thanks for your channel, Nick!

    Recon 1 does do a pretty substantial mark up. If you find dealers in Europe or Russia, they're usually $200 cheaper. It's a bit more risky, but the dealers on bladeforums have been consistent and trustworthy

      Snap, so did I!
      That length would be useful for opening some of the 15kg sacks we have in one swift motion, as opposed to having to slice both sides. But yeah, $1100 is 18 months of fuel so maybe I'll keep on with two slicing actions for now.

    Nice piece! Question what if Shirogorov came out with a smaller version that was between 3.00 and 3.5 inch blade OMG THAT WOULD ROCK! I'm a big Shirogorov fan, I own an f95 nudist, jeans, and canabis on washers, and cannabis on mrbs, and I recently sold my neon which I miss! I love the knife just wish it was a bit smaller!

    Mr Nick I'm torn between this and a F3NS. I want 1 shirogorov and I love the liner lock with carbon plate. The big murdery size isn't a turn off for me. On the one hand I feel like F3NS is the perfect Shirogorov so it should win. But on the other hand, what if I have a very small collection of nice folders and the big awesome murdery one is my shiro? It's almost like an extra point for attitude.
    I have daily carried my Herman slim. Love it. Almost pointless for me to even get a shirogorov. Maybe I lean 111 because my slim covers that F3NS size range???
    I love the fuller too. Gawd I'm talking myself into the 111 but my only worry is I might regret passing on the perfect shirogorov which is still kinda arguably the F3NS in my mind.
    Yeah the pocket clip is stiff. That's a negative. I love how easy the herman slim carries. But darn it if I get the F3NS I might regret not getting the big murdery one instead.

    My diminishing value point is around $400. At that price I have the materials I want with the quality I obsess over . This knife just looks really great, but it's not better materially. It's all in your head Nick! We all have the illness to some extent, right?

    • @ToxicityAssured
      @ToxicityAssured 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Four years later... I now own two Shiro's. My $400 price point crept up some. The damascus CRK's and inlaid versions took me into $675 range. Shiro wasn't much farther. It's cool all my edc knives (lots or CRK's and the Shiro's) are true lefty versions. Still love the PM2 and Anthem. They needed an honorable mention.

    i instantly fell in love with this knife. i cant afford it but that is a grail folder. if i could i would carry it everyday.
    i carry a leatherman skeletool, victorinox cadet, zt 0450, and a scraper razor blade holder at work....but in my back pocket my big scary slicer is a spyderco military.
    i do want an opinel no. 8 for my lunchbag. people ask why so many blades? well the 0450 is for my uses, the leatherman for utility, the cadet is non scary, and the razors are for deburring sharp lenses in the optical lab i work in.
    i average 70-120 pairs of glasses inspected per hour. the sharp ones i take to a grinding wheel and clean it up with a razorblade. makes sense right?
    im the gadget guy at work so people borrow my shit all the time. i may not want to lend out my good stuff so i have substitutes. its very unnecessary but thats just me.
    its also a good way to test out gear lol

    If you can live with Elmax and G10 instead of M390 and CF Recon1 sells those versions of this for $300 less than this M390/CF one that is reviewed here. With demand outpacing supply Recon1's pricing is not likely to change for the forseeable future. There are 1 or 2 sellers based in Russia that undercut them by about $200 (because they are buying direct from Shirogorov and marking up, they are not actual dealers) and will sell worldwide but there are more risks and less warranty by going that route. Their inventory is also nowhere near what Recon1s is at any given time. I've heard rumors from people that live local to Recon1 that it "seems like a front for something" or whatever that means but any time I've bought from them my order shipped within 2 hours and they shipped it USPS Express for free. If Shirogorov sold direct to us like it does the rest of the world these knives sure would provide a lot more "value". Or, their increased accessibility would drive up demand and they'd always be sold out and the prices would then hit ridiculous levels on the secondary market. No way to know for sure, but I do know that the 111 is a fantastic knife. It is the only knife in my current collection that isn't a full titanium framelock.

      Herb Toker I dont think you will find too many people who are going to agree with you on the s110 vs m390 front. M390 is superior in every category. Im a contractor and every single tool I have sees a lot of use. My work EDC on the jobsite is the Bento Box M390 PM2. The blade steel has surpassed all of my expectations, its resistance to corrosion is amazing.

Incase a ninja runs through my living room and i need to slay him. Lol. I always wanted a shiro but just cant justify it or even the size like you pointed out.
