  • Hello everyone this is Urbex Dane. This abandoned video takes place at an abandoned house in Ohio. The family abandoned all belongings and I don't know why. Family photos, Flat screen television, and other belongings sit abandoned and forgotten. I find a lot of abandoned houses like this where everything is left behind. This was a very sad Urbex, but interesting when you get a glimpse of the family that once loved this home.

    **Update** I do know why. The homeowners daughter contacted me about this home. She gave me information only her and I knew about the location..so I know it was legit. She gave me the backstory about this home and allowed me to share it with you all. The homeowner is elderly and is in no condition to keep up the home, and the area is too dangerous now. They boarded up the home and she moved in with her daughter. Attempts was made to go back to the house, but squatters took over. Scrapped what they could and basically used the home for whatever. On one occasion they went back to the property and someone was inside. She called the police department and waited for them to come...they never did. This is insane because the home is a few houses down from the Police Department. This is how I knew it was the owner, I didn't mention the police department at all in the video. She wanted to the thank me for posting the video. Now she can make plans on collecting some of the belongings and sale this house. The scrappers in the area destroyed this home even more and they had no clue. In this case its best for them to walk away. I would like to thank her for being so kind and wanting this video to stay up. I will keep this family in my prayers.

      Heartbreaking. Hubby saw this all the time as a housing inspector. People would just move in while families were out of town for a week or two. We personally had to deal with a squatter in our old property a few years ago. We hired a contractor friend to fix it up for sale, basically some finishing work we just couldn't handle. We had no idea he was using drugs and went into a downward spiral, squatting in the property and dealing from it. APD was no help, even though he was known to them and they knew he was dealing. It took us 5 months to get him evicted. In addition, he busted windows and they were never fixed. He just threw boards up inside. The pipes were broken and taken for scrap, so between water damage and the total destruction of the property, we ended up walking away. Insurance wanted to treat it as each issue as separate claims since we had no single date of damages. We lost $25k in positive equity, and total loss was approx $70k.

    SO PROUD! You finally resisted the #1 rule - never open the fridge (from the mouth of a former housing inspector)
    Many times, I wonder if they were homes with elderly people who were hoarders and died, or were removed due to health issues and put it nursing facilities. We used to take people like that out all the time when I was in EMS. The homes were so bad the families just walked away from them...

      that explanation makes so much sense. Parents grow old, live by themselves/elf at some point. Health problems (even mental illness or other that makes you become not responsible anymore to live on your own). Then they die and there is no one to reclaim the home.

    • @lisa9867
      @lisa9867 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly. I was a mail carrier and would see this too. Sometimes they have lost contact with their children. Sometimes they don't have children or family that cares about them. Also, it is expensive to rent a uhaul and drive it across country if family lives far away. A lot of times the family doesn't want anything. I've seen so many times after the elderly person passes the family rents a dumpster and throws everything in it. They don't want to bother with selling or giving things away. I never understood that. I've seen nice furniture in the dumpster. Once they empty out the house it goes up for sale as is. The area I worked houses sold in a heartbeat. Any house, regardless of condition because the land was so valuable. Contractors would pay cash, then bulldoze the house and rebuild a McMansion on the land. It would sell quickly. The land and homes in and around Boston is very valuable.

    Doesn't seem like they intended to abandoned it, looks like it was just left in the middle of their lives. I would assume the mess was because of people breaking in to steal things. The photos and other decorations look too neatly placed and maintained for the owner to have trashed the place like that. Good find bud!

      More than likely bank repossession. PPL, especially older folks, think the bank they've been with their whole lives won't come in, lock the door on all their possessions & boot'em out. So they take no preparation except maybe a little packing here and there (hence the boxes) and all of a sudden one day the sheriff is there on the door step escorting The whole fam-dam-ily out to the curb with only the clothes on their backs. This happened a lot in the 80's & 90's. Or it could have been an older couple, passed on or put in elderly home & kids couldn't or wouldn't come 'clean out the fam home' so it was left to rot. If it was foreclosed on, everything belongs to the bank and they 'couldn't' come clean it out. It really makes the mind wonder why something like this would be allowed to happen. I can come up with 100 different scenarios, LOL.

    • @loupole5654
      @loupole5654 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the people who post the video's would take a few minutes to do some research, all of these could be solved, but they basically come down to a few reasons:
      1. Someone died and had no relatives
      2. Someone died and had relatives that did not care or were in jail
      3. Occupants were evicted by bank or property owner
      4. Someone got sick, went into hospital and had no family to look after home
      5. Someone broke the law and went to jail, as above with no family to look after home.
      If you know the address, you can check who owned it on the county assessor or equivalent. Check the name on the internet for obituaries. Otherwise, you can usually find an occupant's name in the building, and have a general idea of when it was abandoned. If not go to the library and look up the address in the city directory. (not the same as the phone book) Check the last name listed for obits, or newspaper search (your local paper likely has such a function on their web site).
      I find these things very depressing as that is what life seems to hold for many of us. If you don't have kids or you have alienated them, it is a certitude. So often, irregardless, spouses die, and your left in the home alone. You die or get sick and hospitalized without someone close, (especially in an older section of town) it's a given as well.
      You spend your whole life accumulating memories, and things, and when you die, they are totally meaningless to anyone else. One discovers their existence actually meant little to the rest of the world.

      jeff munson belongs to the bank, those houses have been foreclosed on and what happens is the banks hire someone to go break in and change the door locks and take notes as to whats inside, if the value looks to be over 2000 bucks? the bank will send an accual bank employee out to collect the valuables but if not the bank will accually pay someone to haul the stuff to the dump, after everythings been hauled away the bank starts taking bids on making any repairs to get the home liveable again, whoever gives the bank the best bid wins the opportunity to do the repairs, same with hauling the stuff to the dump, you give a bid and lowest bid wins, and alot of folks come across descent stuff and instead of trashing it they keep it or yard sell it, so if you can get into this field of work there is good money to be made, the bank overpays on all the repair work and cleanup, for instance i know for a fact the bank pays $150.00 just to remove a dead bird or dead rat, but you've gotta carry special insurance to do the work, its called "property preservation services"

    I saw that bottle of HEET you picked up in the kitchen and boy did that bring back some memories. Back in the early 70's my mother use to put it on me and I tell ya it would light your ass on fire. I was just a young boy then but I will never forget how hot that stuff felt. There looks like there is enough stuff in here to open your own Goodwill. Thanks Dane !!!

      @@LakeNipissing Yes, they're very comfortable, but you have to be careful. If you get too comfortable in warm water you could fall asleep and inhale bathwater! (I speak from experience. lol) *P.S,* I've also heard them called claw-and-ball-foot tubs.

    It's a shame that vandals have torn up this house. IT's a really nice house, with the arches over the doorways, the built-in shelves around the fireplace and the fireplace itself - you can see the attention to detail and craftsmanship that went into building it.

    You are the first one to zoom in on books!! yay you. You can tell a lot by what people read. The pics and clothes denote an African the America family. They were Christians and loved their children. The C.S. Lewis books, et al were another clue. The bathtub was a "clawfoot" tub. I think someone trashed the place after the owners had to move due to health problems, but they thought they'd be back.
    Thanks for the interesting video. I'm subscribing, because of the books and because you film slowly enough. 😳

    When you see several houses in a row abandoned , one must wonder if it was due to a neighborhood health issue. Like a gas leak or sewage in the water , something like that. That would explain the emergency evacuation with so many items left behind.

    I love the old cast iron bath tub. They are harder to find these days and are the only kind that one can really soak in a nice hot bath. The feet are called claw feet. The tub is worth salvaging. There are places that can even bake new enamel on them. All new tubs are cheap plastic crap that cannot keep the bath water hot.

    It's so sad to see those family photos still where they were hung. I was thinking maybe it was a old person died but then again it looks like there was family and the neighbouring houses are empty. Maybe they were all abducted by aliens! Another great video and don't forget to wear a mask and gloves in these places. Who knows what breeds in there while nobody lives there. 😊

    There was a twitter handle written on one of the walls of the upstairs' bedrooms. It read @JanayshaRenee. I searched this on Google and found a girl's account, but it hasn't been updated since 2012. Her profile photo appears to be a photo of her inside the room also.
