I put 2 on PRS guitars. I like them and left a Sweetwater review. Temp changes make a Floyd a bit of a pain from day to day. It's really nice to just turn the tuners and I hate bumping by finger into the sharp locking nut edge. It's also just one less thing to have to tinker with. So far, so good.
All my Floyd guitars have been fine for 40 years with the locking nut and don't see a reason to change now . Although i see how it might appeal to some .
Good to se this product coming back, it can remove a lot of headaches. The genius of the Floyd is locking the strings at the bridge IMO, the greatest tuning instability comes from the bridge, especially the g-string. But I still think you get the most dramatic divebombs from the locking nut.
I am sure the strung pull would negate the need for a string bar like the Ibanez and hence would work fine. The nut is super lubricated so it should be super smooth even with that tilt. The only headstock shape we think this may have issues with is a Gibson style 3x3. But you never know.
Wow, all of the pull is now going to be on the tuning pegs. The whole purpose of the locking nut was to stabilize the strings and not have excessive pull on unrelated hardware. There goes your pegs and maybe your headstock.
Thank you so much, there was basically ZERO useful information anywhere about the Unlock Nut, and this is also the first proper demo. Now I am Officially putting this on EVERY guitar I own, With or Without a tremolo. (Why not it's free tuning stability)
The test is a chord, then whammy, then chord again. I can hear that thing going out even tho you say "perfectly in tune" every time. Then you fade away to tune it again. Say I'm wrong.
As an 80s hard rock fan as well as an amateur guitarist, I absolutely love hot-rodded super-Strats and other similar guitars, but I like the fast-playing necks, hot pick-ups and designer paint jobs. However, I am a Floyd Rose hater. I prefer hard tail or non-locking tremolo bridges. This 'unlock nut' is a good start. Now I'd like to see someone design a non-locking retro-fit replacement for the Floyd-Rose bridge itself.
That would set the Internet forums ablaze like this video seems to have. A well setup floyd is fine, but with this nut it becomes far more convenient and easier to setup. The idea of a non locking bridge would be basically like a really good tremolo like the Vegatrem. Am sure they may come up with a retro fit version for the floyd.
The pickups are stock (V8) on the white pickguard. The black pickguard has an aftermarket Seymour Duncan TB4 which sounds much thicker and has way more output.
The guitars had different pickups and it does not affect the sound at all to be honest. We focused on the tuning stability in this video not the sound which clearly was not a factor anyway.
My main stage guitar is a Washburn N4….. which has the Buzz Feiten tuning system. It has a compensated locking nut. Not messing with that. I like my Floyd Rose equipped guitars. I have the German Original case hardened terms on all my trem guitars. Don’t see the need for these in my opinion.
dude they abused the living hell out of it with dive bombs and even a double stop so that matters a lot more with a floyd. I think the playthrough was apt.
How is it a solution? You still go out of tune, you still have to get a new string and cut the ball end, unscrew the bridge screw to release the old string etc. All it does is it removes 1 step and makes your tuning a lot less stablebif you use the floyd

Why would you need this on a 6 inline style headstock. The strings pass straight through the nut. I could see this for a Gibson, although it’s actually about 73 Yrs. late…
Even if you don't block the trem it would work fine and also allow quick tuning changes so definitely useful to many. Cannot say it is a useless product at all, that is truly just your personal opinion.
WTF would I want one of those for? it defeats the entire purpose of a locking nut, I'll grab a strat with a proper mastodon tusk nut polished to a spit shine if I want a unlocked nut.. good grief really?
Each string was played and checked with a clip on tuner as seen in the video so it was not him imagining it. Sometimes, the effects can make it sound slightly pitchy but the guitar stayed in tune as per the on spot check.
Daddario one and it is pretty good tbh. Not a peterson but pretty good nonetheless. The sound was coming through the Lapel mic so maybe it is hard to judge it properly from the video. But the process was thoroughly checked at the time.
All my floyed builds use locking tuners and a graphite nut, they stay in tune like nothing I've ever touched
Great review… appreciated … I’m definitely going to try one. Thank You

Awesome and happy that it is working out for you.
I get it now it's a wide nut to fit locking nut cavity, I use wood to fill in the gap usually ebony
An original floyed with a graphite nut and sperzel locking tuners, my guitars are the most stable guitars ever

Man, I never thought about a white pickguard on my purple neon RG. Amazing!
It does look amazing.
Interested to see how well this works on a Jackson w/ a pointy headstock where the strings leave the nut at a sharp angle.
I am sure the strung pull would negate the need for a string bar like the Ibanez and hence would work fine. The nut is super lubricated so it should be super smooth even with that tilt. The only headstock shape we think this may have issues with is a Gibson style 3x3. But you never know.
Excellent video and the explanation was great. if I can ever afford a floyd rose guitar, I may consider this.
It's a great product. You won't be disappointed if you get one.
Great Video! first time seeing this type of nut
Yes me too. Excellent concept design. Surprised it was not done earlier.
Including my old use Jackson fu1 fusion

@@The_Audio_Phoenix I’m glad you found it to be helpful. The absence of a comprehensive comparison was the inspiration behind shooting this video.
Thanks so much and glad it was useful for you. It really is a good product.
I like it just for the cute little elephant.
Yup it is cute.
Is it recommended to use locking tuners with this replacement nut ?
Yes, that would be ideal for quick string changes and in some people's views more stability due to the less winds.
@@GuitarGearGyan Do the guitars used in your demo have locking tuners ?

Great video…very informative.
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful.
great work!
Thanks a lot!

It think it’s good. I’m interested to try it.
Was really surprised with the results myself. Worth getting for sure.
Aftiiirrr i do dive bommsss can i use masala? Hopuuliii my giiitaarrr will stay nuurmelll
Not sure about the guitar but your maggi will be tasty for sure. Magic Masala.
Wouldnt this now be a wearable item now that friction is going to act like a file?
It takes nuts to make a video like this..
Or balls 😉
Seems to thin out the guitar sound...kinda tinny with the graphtech nut.

My opinion of course....but it sounds thinner with the Graph tech...a tradeoff for the convenience and stability.

Why did you not just use it like a Floyd dive it and okay chords? Seems like you never played chords which is what matters
dude they abused the living hell out of it with dive bombs and even a double stop so that matters a lot more with a floyd. I think the playthrough was apt.
The test was to test the integrity of the nut not to play basic chords. Most good floyd users will put the Whammy bar to it's full use.
@@GuitarGearGyanBecause we can’t see the tuner, he’s saying being able to hear a full chord would tell us how in tune it has stayed
Defeats the purpose of a locking nut.
our guitarist isn't using his Floyd, has it blocked. But he is still stuck with the locking nut. I think this might be useful for him.
Using a Floyd Rose to tune your guitar is like trying to pet a cat, one wrong move, and you're starting all over again !!
Nice analogy, it is very hard.

Absolutely

Only makes sense if you're going to permanently block them trem. Otherwise it is a useless product trying to fix a problem that does not exist.
It’s a personal choice. Inconveniences are minor to some, major for others.

“And its perfectly in tune” thats all i got from this video, they didnt explain how it works
maybe try watching the entire video?

Perfectly in tune? Do you not have ears? 😂
