Love you Germane! You added historic meat to the bone of my fledgling understanding of complex Latvian culture. Much appreciation and extremely valuable for my research. The more I learn, the more my heart bursts with pride!
Thank you for sharing our culture and language! My mum grew up in Latvia before she moved to Bavaria after independence. I grew up speaking mostly Latvian with her before I went to school and forgot most of the language. Eventhough I speak really basic Latvian nowadays, I love this country with my whole heart. Your channel helps me with getting a bit better in the language :)
Sveiki and paldies for your comment! It is very heartwarming to see you say you love Latvia and are working on maintaining the connection. It is such a success on the part of your mum to have “placed” love for Latvia in your heart :))))
Another unofficial anthem while we still were under USSR was "Pūt vējiņi", when a choir sang it back in 1980s in LU Lielā aula (the great hall of the University of Latvia) everyone stood up. Sometimes I was in the choir, sometimes in the public.

I've never been to Latvia but I wear my grandfather's ring which my father gave me when I turned 16 (called him pomping Ojars). I've spotted and met fma few Latvians because I noticed a Namejs. When my son becomes a man he will be given my father's Namejs .I love the story behind that ring.
I would say the difference in the color of the Austrian and Latvian flags is that Austria went with fresh blood, and Latvia went with dried blood color
When you mentioned Aliexpress, fun fact, I was ordering some flags there, and when packages arrive, they always have a sticker of Latvijas Pasts (Iʼm from Serbia). Maybe then itʼs time to order a sarkanbaltsarkans.
@@irregularLatvian Well, those were flags of various countries (Brazil, Russia, France, India, Philippines, etc...). I don’t exactly know where they are produced (probably China) and how all that logistics works, but it looks like they are at least passing through Latvia. Anyways, when I get Latvia’s flag, I’ll let you know how well the manufacturers did the job 😉

Hahahaha! Also A good theory :) the austrian guy didnt die, but the Latvian did.
Yeah, absoluteli! While officially that colour is called " karmīnsarkanais" in Latvian or "maroon" in English, just look at it - it's stained blood!
The Austrian flag is stained with arterial blood, and the Latvian with venous...
Hahaha! I love the replies on this!
Great video as always. In English we call this colour burgundy :)

I wish I were Latvian. Would be nice to be part of a smaller culture like that instead of being part of the huge English speaking mass.
A pity that Latvia support Catalonia movement, specially because historically It has nothing to do. No one has opressed anyone.
