  • G'day everyone!
Today we're gonna make a 5 gallon aquascape on my bookshelf for some Pinocchio Shrimp and Darwin Algae Eating Shrimp. I'm going for an aesthetic / clean look with this scape, and I'm very pleased with the end results. We don't just setup the aquascape and add the Shrimp, we combat algae problems and maintain the tank. You'll see this tank progress from day 1 to day 60. So enjoy the video!
    Plants used in this tank:
    Pearlweed
    Blyxa Japonica
    Anubias Nana 'Petite'
A mix of Flame and Peacock Moss
    Bucephalandra
    Pygmy Chain Sword
    Rotala H'Ra
    Alternanthera reineckii 'mini'
    Red Root Floaters
    Ludwigia Palustris
    Didiplis Diandra

That's *beautiful* and the shrimp sure did do a great job on the algae! I'm really looking forward to seeing what fish you put in there! 🙂👍

Thanks Tara! The most successful planted tank so far! I was very skeptical about adding the shrimp thinking they'd eat all that algae, but it's almost completely algae-free! Thanks for watching Tara! Have an awesome day!

Nah not at all mate, I'm still constantly learning lots. All the plants in there were reused from the other aquariums. Didn't spend a cent on the plants for this one haha! Thanks for watching guys! Means a lot! Have a good one!

I use an old Bunnings gift card to scrape off tough algae. Works great.

Ahaha certainly does the trick! I used that on the tank initially, but removing the algae was easy, I just didn't want to because it was so sticky it just messed up the whole scape. The shrimp and liquid co2 did the trick. Thanks for watching GV! Hope all is well mate 👍

one year later - how did the Pinocchio Shrimp go? I was reading that they need brackish water, is that accurate?

All my Pinocchio shrimp jumped out :(

Crap! That's no good! Yeah, I don't have a lid on mine and I think mine have been jumping a bit too. Are you gonna replace them or try out something else mate?

Perhaps turn you length of lighting and intensity down

Yeah at the time prolly was the smart option, but there were jsut so many plants for the small tank to battle the algae. I wanted to see how the shrimp would do. They clearly did the job 😄
