New Caledonia is an extraordinary strip of land surrounded by long barrier reefs and the unfathomable Pacific Ocean. Its vast lagoon holds a wealth of secrets waiting to be discovered. Scientists in Noumea are studying the behavior of sharks; these kings of the oceans are indispensable to the equilibrium of the underwater world. Soaring over one of the world’s most beautiful lagoons and discovering the wide open spaces of this land. On the main island of Grande Terre, adventure is waiting for those who dare to live out their dreams. Lifou, in the Loyalty Islands, promises a voyage back in time to a world steeped in Kanak legends and deeply-rooted traditions.
Exploring Lifou in the Loyalty Islands means plunging into Melanesian culture in search of a lost age, and getting a glimpse of the invisible spirit of the Kanaks. Marcel Lapachas is a child of the Jokin tribe.
Oana Larue seems like she’s running on pure adrenaline. To satisfy her craving for the extreme, Oana practices freefly, a discipline of free-fall. It takes place in the fleeting moments of weightlessness just before opening the parachute.
In the tradition of Ouvea, atoll of the Loyalty Islands, the shark is an emblematic, sacred animal. It is even the ”protective totem” of several clans on the island. Just the thing to arouse Germain Boussarie’s curiosity! Ever since his childhood in the south of France he’s dreamed of living a life dedicated to the underwater world and the shark, King of the Oceans.

Peace and safety ... Long life in your paradise...
As always, a Masterpiece. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
As a fellow Islander from West Papua we share the earth oven culture and of course physical appearance with our Kanak family as the lovely Lady reminds me of my belated Grandmother.
❤
The earth oven culture also exists in Fiji...we call it 'Lovo'. Amazing how we share similarities across Melanisian land, from physical features to our food culture & experiences.
I’m amazed at the French being spoken as France is far a way. Colonialism is crazy
D ou tu viens bosser? Je suis sur que toi aussi t'es un colon.

Nice documentary. Nice place, nature and who lives there. Thanks to all your team who discovers heaven place's on earth .🙏
Another master piece!! Damn.
Marcel and Oana are my heroes 😉 just seeing them live their lives out fully.. when Marcel said "this is where I belong, where I choose to be, it's pretty cool" that brought me a big smile. And when Oana said "I can't picture myself anywhere else" and seeing her enjoy skydiving so much saying that she feels like she's flying, also brought me a big smile!
So great 👏👏 making me travel with you via documentaries,,educate me about the global 👍😄

This is quite an interesting documentary. I am from the Pacific islands ocean too from Kiribati, and I always love to learn about my Pacific culture. I'm a Proud Pacific Islander (PPI). But one question, as I understand that New Caledonian people speak French, do those people in the village also speak French or they speak their Indigenous tongue? If so, what do you call it? Like for us, in Kiribati, we speak I-Kiribati language. Again thanks for this wonderful docu, so great...
Hello! I'm from New Caledonia. We all speak French and there are 28 Kanak languages throughout the whole archipelago of New Caledonia. Kanaks are the Native people of New Caledonia, they have done wonderful work to preserve and promote their languages here. It's very common for them to speak their Native dialect as well as French :)
Interesting! Hope the Kanak languages are well preserved and locals choose to speak more of their language than French. I'm from Fiji and it seems everyone prefers to speak English here over our Fijian dialects. As Pacific Islanders, we need to preserve our culture and language as much as possible.
Protect nature and and nature will protect you
I am so jealous. This looks lovely

I want to seee new Caledonian as free people, I want their sovereignty for thierself, by their revolution, as a foreign I want to visit and settle there but not under French government, I want to study, learn in free Caledonia, the country of Caledonian 😮
EVEN IF THE FRENCH LEAVE THERE IS THREAT LIKE INDONESIA AND OTHER COUNTRIES WHO WILL COLONIZE THEM

I like sharks, however doesn't this seems a little bit too risky to swim there ? I would never do that.
Le cheval blanc, la jeune femme : celle là, elle n'est pas un cadeau pour nous comme cela. Il y a eu du pire, avant.

I have to say, these are a bunch of good looking people here

27:11 It seems to me that they killed the calves in order to have money and not to save the mother
The calves would've dragged down the mother. The mother would have had to drink MORE water and eat MORE in order to provide for milk for the calves.
It's kinda distracting when I speak French, and I'm trying to listen to the interviews but the English dub cuts them off lol 😂
When I notice that the 2-digit Qi chants "France world champion of colonization", the English, the Spanish, the Germans and the Dutch laugh... It is against Macron's laws that the New Caledonians " Kanaks "not revolt against France

Why does it bother you? You must be a Karren
They sound french
We were colonized by France so the first language here is French
Nothing to be proud of
After watching this show and being inspired by the comment that sharks are harmless misunderstood creatures, I went for a swim in shark infested waters to make new friends. I’m now a quadruple amputee. Who would have thought this outcome foreseeable?
Well, you lived to tell about it, right?
They start by studying the sharks. Scientific this , scientific that. Then what.. Never just staying away and letting nature be nature.
I admire your mastery of typing on a keyboard with nothing but a pencil between your teeth. The patience one must possess to type one key at a time?
Not sure how walking on corals translates to protecting it.

"Black is divine power".
Why does he Speak French ? he should speak his tribe’s dialect instead! Long live the Kanaks! And long live New Caledonia’s fight for independence!!👏👏🥰🥰
