Why? He was raised on a chinese culture, but has also embraced the positive things Western economic, political and culture has to offer.

You are absolutely right in this and I have been thinking that LKY's real difference from other leaders then and now was being able to put aside baggage about our colonial past and have an unemotional assessment of what we could stand to benefit from the West - namely a rules-based world order - while also keeping out negative things like unfettered freedom of press and freedom of speech. He also was able to engage the West on these disagreements rather than take offence and shut them out entirely - see his interviews with Western journalists.

Singapore is in a unique position to look at the world and make sense of it given that our strategy will determine our livelihood very strongly. Lee is a master at this, and can also look at the issue without any partisan bias or voter alignment in the US, nor be saddled with Chinese ideology to tow the governing party's line. As a Singaporean in the US, I am not sure how Lee managed to have such amazing insights on both US and China in that period, and they have been largely accurate till today. I think if Lee were still here, he would be a bridge for China and the US, together with other powers to get together to solve the world's problems instead of deciding who wants to be at the top of the world. With the melting ice caps in Antarctica and global warming and increased abnormal weather, or with the problems in the Gaza Strip and Ukraine, countries seem more keen to use these as chips in a political game rather than focus on cooperation. What will being at the top of the world do for a country when the entire human kind may be wiped out in another hundred years with environmental threats or contagious diseases?

Such great insight by LKY. What he didn't say though is "the more the US isolates China, the more it will hurt itself and elevate China". So the best strategy was for US to accept and get along with China.
But instead, US chose to block China and experts predict China will soon surpass US much earlier than before.
One example. If China had remained in NASA's space program, they would have made the greatest contribution, whilst US got most of the credit. With their confucian nature, they wouldn't complain when given a bad deal and happily take a smaller share. When they do ask for a bigger share, just give it to them, since US is still getting something for nothing. But when US kicked them out, NASA is basically stalled, whilst China's space program is being marvelled at. Mankind set to go to the moon in 2 years.

Li as a Chinese descent, adopted Chinese ancient Wisdom from spring and autumn period and warring states period( 770bc-210bc) which were the small and vulnerable states in order to maintain independence, they have to be allies with neighboring powerful states and dancing between them. But true to be told, all those smaller states ended up disappearing. It just a matter of time. Li had seen the vital signs of weakness of United States from declining of British empire. Instead of pointing out, he praised and glorified American stupidity and ignorance. That is the Asian wisdom as well. Because, Singapore needs American military presence in the region for the time being. Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer. Hats off to Mr Li. RIP.

Lmao there is no de-dollarization. That was BRICS propaganda. Not only is the USD the most traded currency in the world, any replacement global currency would still have to pass the Euro, the Pound, and the Yen first, and even if they do, the USD accounts for over 60 percent of global trade. This isn't even taking into account the 50 trillion in US stocks that the world depends on. It's just not realistic or even necessary. Backed by gold? There isn't even enough gold in the world. US gold reserves are the most in the world and that doesn't even cover a trillion dollars.

Mr. Lee please let your successor lead Indonesia. Indonesia need people like you Mr. Lee. If there's anyone worthy of worship, it's definitely you, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew

Unfortunately, Lee did not foresee the rapid rising of China in manufacturing, science, technology and green energies and EV, USA has wasted her plentiful resources in wars and heegmony and is now behind in ship building, EV cars and other manufacturing., not to mention her huge public debts and being tied down with two protracted wars.

Watch the new material Good Times Bad Times. The U.S. maintains its position and is even moving away, especially since foreign investments in China are practically non-existent. Plus Western companies are fleeing China, deglobalization is progressing. And China has a lot of different serious domestic problems.

Mr. Lee's interview has already given them a head start in choosing what they can do to improve themselves. He specifically pointed out both the downsides and the benefits, which countries can use as guidance
