  • Indian Brands MDH, Everest Banned in Hong Kong & Singapore. Here's Why | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Indian spices are under the scanner after Hong Kong’s food regulatory authority had found four products of popular Indian brands MDH and Everest with carcinogenic ingredients. After this, Singapore has recalled Everest fish curry masala imported from India, citing the presence of ethylene oxide which is a cancer-causing agent. Both MDH and Everest Foods are yet to comment on these claims. There is a ban on using ethylene oxide in food items in India. So how did it end up in the spices? Reports say India's food safety body has called for a sampling of all spice brands in the country. If any brand is found using harmful chemicals, strict action will be taken against them. Palki Sharma tells you more.

I think Indian FSSAI in India are too unqualified to be the inspectors of food. I see even the worst, locally made products with no maker's names mentioned on it has the FSSAI approval marks. FSSAI's works needs to be reviewed. I don't know what chemical and unhygienic food we are eating. FSSAI shouldn't give approved to any products without watching the completed process of how the products are being made.

@@alternateaccount4868 There are already many cooking videos. Here are some pointers:
      1. Corriander / Jeera powder: This is very simple to make. Buy ~200gm whole corriander / jeera seeds from a kirana store. Heat a kadhai and put the seeds in. Lower the heat and stir with a roti flipper / Jharni until hot (~ 5 minutes). Empty into a plate and leave to cool. Put it in a mixie and grind into a powder.
      2. Chilli powder: Procedure is same as above. Except after cooling you need to remove the stalks before grinding. Choose your chilli variety based on your preference from a good Kirana store. Buy the good quality loose one not packed. These are the popular varieties. Kashmiri (large smooth skin, sweet, mild heat, good color), Byadagi (pronounced Bedgi, medium size, wrinkled skin, medium heat, good color), Guntur (small smooth skin hot). I usually use 150gm Byadagi + 50gm Guntur.
      3. Garam Masala: You can see this recipe by Ranveer Brar th-cam.com/video/f5_E0SknU7Q/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3HQsKgYCk5DkjLBh
      4. Sambar Powder: I have used the recipe from this video and it gives an authentic taste th-cam.com/video/fNpU3b6JUzI/w-d-xo.html This is not a recipe video but I had noted the recipe in a comment on this video. I think it should be the 3rd or 4th comment in the comment section. While making sambar powder you need to be careful not to over fry the spices otherwise they will burn.
