So what about the paint? Most of the material I used for this mill was kept outside in the rain and snow years before turning it into a mill and nothing happened. Hell, the material I made the blade guards out of has been outside under a tree for over three decades - still in usable condition. What I'm trying to say is I'm not gonna paint it at the moment - it's too cold here for the paint to cure and too wet to even apply it. This mill is not gonna turn into a heap of rust within the next 6 months - that's when I'm planning on painting it eventually - May 2019. It's not gonna turn into a heap of rust even within the next 6 years so no worries, people!
My family was in logging business for 150 years it makes me happy to see your home made saw mill in operation. You have done a fine job. Thank you for posting.
For those crying about the paint, can you say Rat Rod saw mill. Some people would use it as is. ( including me) My question was why the wheel swap, but that was pointed out. A great thanks for building it from a few folks in the USA.
now put that saw mill to work and cut some lumber for a good work bench, been watching you sense the saw mill build and wondered why you didnt have a good bench to work on, keep the videos coming.
Before you put paint on the iron work, paint it with ferric chloride. This will convert the rust into a nonferrous skin, saves you removing the rust, except the loose stuff, and stops further rust.
I see you upgraded the coolant toothbrush too! Will be interested to see how well the new wheels perform. One objection to using tires I've heard is that you can never get enough tension because of the air pressure in the tires isn't enough to offset things. The new wheels will take out spoke give but will still leave tire give. You haven't mentioned that issue before so I am assuming that it's no problem. Thanks again for posting. You are always an inspriation.
Good work! Are you able to get enough band tension to make a good cut? I am in the planning stage of my build and am looking for advice.. Thanks God bless
Looks great Donn. I hope the “new” wheels make an improvement. The winch certainly should. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 It is funny how “Hey Donn. You put the wheel on backwards.” becomes “You triggered my OCD.” No wonder the world is messed up. 90% of the people think they have OCD because a backwards wheel “triggered” them. 😂🤣
Donn am I correct to say it was *near* the time of this build when you were married? In one of the first series I watched [4x4 trailer or UTV], you mentioned your wife and I noticed your wedding ring. In the beginning of this series approx 2-3 yrs earlier, I noticed you didn't have a wedding; well until now. No biggy, I just noticed. Btw, I think people want you to paint it b/c it's like watching you paint a great picture, then mount it in the wrong frame. 🤔 😕 Anywho seriously, like the rest of your builds, it's great having seen it come together. God bless.
But what about the balancing of the tires this time? As a machinist for 55 years, love seeing how an early lathe still works. Much thanks from a now a CNC owner / operator.
May be a dumb question but as most sawmills run on metal wheels, why bother with the tires? Couldn't you just flatten the inside of the rim and run it directly on the metal? That way you can get more tension on the blade, right? What am I missing?
Why is everybody saying paint it? I like this rusty look tbh and makes it even more clear its self made. If it would look new with paint it would look like u bought the thing and didn't make it urself..
I wish to open mouth and put in foot. You know what they say, paint won't pull the plow!! Well with those upgrades you should be a force to be reckoned with. I would advise a carpenters apron or something to keep shit tail out of stuff but with over a million viewers, What can I add that you haven't thought of. Your overworking your poor brain with worry and yet over a million viewers you are not going to be told what to do. I'm so proud of you young man
pls i am using 'a bit more less in width of rubber tires' ... them are of a medium motorbike .... can you advise me a good measures of the blade ... and how much 'teeth per inch'? ....
impossible 9 I built a bandsaw mill using motorcycle wheels and swing arms welded together, I have been running it for about 4 years now and it’s been fine. I have replaced the the wheel bearings once, but the ones that went out where stock and installed sometime back in the early 80s. The wheel bearings are cheap and even if you had to replace them once a year you would get far more lumber milled in that year then the $20 it would cost in bearings. Take care. Ps Good job on your mill! It’s awesome being able to cut your own lumber :)
How bad is the wear on the back portion of the blade guides, since with just the flat surface they are rubbing so much against the back of the blade? or for that matter is it wearing down the back of the blade?
You have done awesome work! I applaud you for your persistence and great craftsmanship. I can only imagine how much I would enjoy such a wonderful machine! Thanks for posting the videos!
The main reason for this mod was the eccentric properties of the spoke wheels of the USSR made IZ Jupiter motorcycle which made the blade vibrate and undulate. Also they had some flex in them - I could hear the spokes squeak. This mod took care of those problems.
Смотрю и "жаба давит". У нас чтобы такую установку соорудить надо "10 лет" на дядю пахать. А если приобрести весь вспомогательный инструмент,ещё 15лет. Чё за такая несправедливость то?

Okay. :)
Fair enough!

That sawmill is crying, please paint me! Great looking machine, you did a great job

Great job Donn, always enjoy watching your skills being put to work. Thanks for sharing.
Nice work. Love the videos. Inspiration for me to go out in the shop. Nice 80 degree day here in southern Minnesota
Much better then April Wilkerson’s band saw mill!!!!
now put that saw mill to work and cut some lumber for a good work bench, been watching you sense the saw mill build and wondered why you didnt have a good bench to work on, keep the videos coming.

Great video as always !! Keep up the hard work and dedication !!
Excellent improvisation , and machining skills , when do you plan to start the mini excavator rebuild , keep the vlogs coming , top work .
Nice build.
Thanks!
Nice work
I'm in the making of a sawmill.
When it comes to the motor/belt reduction.
Whats more important?
Go fast?
Go strong?
There's info on blade speed on the Internet. There's a sweet spot. Both speed and torque matter.

Thanks!
Good work and thanks for sharing, I am curios about what kind of issues you where having before your wheel upgrade?
What I learned today, steel is cheap in Estonia, but paint is expensive...😅😉👍
machinery gray : )

Nice sport rim...im going to make one sawmill
But what about the balancing of the tires this time? As a machinist for 55 years, love seeing how an early lathe still works. Much thanks from a now a CNC owner / operator.
Wheels got balanced at a tire shop.
As others have commented, you should really paint it or give it some kind of rust protection.
May be a dumb question but as most sawmills run on metal wheels, why bother with the tires? Couldn't you just flatten the inside of the rim and run it directly on the metal?

Looks cool
Great work as always. Have you thought about treating the rust on the sawmill yet, I would hate to see all your hard work rust away.
Why is everybody saying paint it? I like this rusty look tbh and makes it even more clear its self made. If it would look new with paint it would look like u bought the thing and didn't make it urself..
I can hear it crying In West Australia please paint me

Donn love the mod. Was the sprocket smaller? Did it speed up the blade?
Yes, the sprocket is smaller. I will try it, it might be okay speed-wise.
Awesome.
What kind a motor Is? Have plans, great proyect
Industrial 15 HP petrol engine. Works great.
wow nice
What is the width of the blade and how many teeth per inch does it have? thanks
you better paint, man
Number 1!!!
How long blade sir
Nice, now paint.
I had a XJ600 before, really great bike!
Why the wheel change?
The spoke wheels were eccentric to the hub and made the blade vibrate. This mod took care of it. The blade is steady now.
Looks great mate; What air pressure do you have in the tyres?
Something like 3.5 Bar. These tires can probably take even more.
Hei donny, never leave blade under tension for a long period of time
and my *OCD* kicked in when you installed one wheel in wrong direction hahaha
I haven't left a blade under a tension for a long period of time ever - why do you presume I have?
@@DonnDIY I have never said you did, Just a friendly reminder not to do so
But aren't those bearings and shafts too small for a sawmill?
No. It has worked so far. Maybe they'll wear out quicker and I'll have to replace them more but it's no problem.

Ola Donn ! sou aqui do Brasil vc nao teria o projeto dessa sua moinho detalhada pra mi passar ;
Desde ja Parabens Belo moinho ;;

They're OK.
Awesome job!! Was you having trouble with the spike wheels?
They were wobbly and eccentric. I would not have bothered with the mod otherwise.
You have done awesome work! I applaud you for your persistence and great craftsmanship. I can only imagine how much I would enjoy such a wonderful machine! Thanks for posting the videos!
What color are you going to paint it? LOL.
a gallon or two of paint cant cost that much.
Pimp my Mill.
Weird how people are so bothered about paint, and telling you what to do.
Чем ему старые калёса помешали?
Why not just use the tires on the rims thay seam to me to be better for what you are doing
Ok nice, but, why?
