Royal Enfield Classic 500: The One Bike That Never Gave A Sh*t

  • The Royal Enfield Classic 500 - it doesn't blend into a crowd, it doesn't have to. The "man" among "boys", this bike did whatever it wanted to, its own way.
    And nobody complained.
While the entire country is going ga ga over the Royal Enfield Meteor 350's launch today, I get to ride this old school brute that went out on its shield, refusing to kneel (discontinued due to poor sales when India switched to BS-6 norms).
This is not really a review, I am not really a reviewer. Just an average Joe riding and appreciating a motorcycle for what it is - unconventional and unapologetic.
There are smoother bikes in the market, there are more fuel efficient, faster bikes available - and they will all make more sense than the Royal Enfield Classic 500 when you look at logic to decide on a bike. But none of them will appeal to your heart like this Classic 500, that is something I am sure of.
Let me know what you think of this motorcycle in the comments below.
If you like my work and are interested in knowing about my other motorcycles, you can take a look at my Instagram page here: / abhinavbhatt19
Thank you so much for giving me your time. I hope you have a great day.

Can't believe there's so much hate today for these kind of motorcycles, I think RE takes more hate than anyone else due to some beta males complaining of its machoness, I mean it's a military bike which was originally designed for the tough guys in the military, not for racing. Its like a suit, it's old fashion but still looks way better and classy than any other outfit and reflects maturity, it's the same with motorcycles. There's a difference in how you look when you are wearing slides vs when you are wearing oxford shoes. It reflects certain personality type because of the fact they made certain choice. Most idiots in our generation have no clue about real style. In our generation you go out and do chest thumping and say I'm a man and people will start complaining but some random person just comes out and say I'm gay, the same people will applaud and say you're so strong, you're so brave and so on.

It's an unending joy to ride on it. Yeah it has its own cons, I spend extra even now to maintain it, but still, once it is on road, it is just majestic. I own stealth black 500cc.

  • @pipesandthat

Nice honest video, and you’ve captured the essence of the bike perfectly. I had a KTM 990 Adventure (1 litre V-twin) for 11 years from new. It was remapped and had Akrapovic cans fitted, so 4-5 times the power of the Classic 500. But no matter! I started riding bikes in 2006 when I lived in India, with a Bullet. My next bike was a BMWR1200GS after a move to Qatar, then shipping it home to the U.K. Next came the KTM and it saw proper use as a dual sport tourer, the best of its class.
I always had a wish to get back to Enfield sometime and finally traded my KTM for a 2021 Classic 500 over a month ago. Since then I’ve put 1200 miles on it. It puts a big smile on my face every time I ride it. When a fast bike rips past me I just smile and chug on, never missing the speed.
Every day I walk past my Land Rover Discovery and choose the Enfield to commute country roads to work, in fact I look forward to my commute on the Enfield. As for it not being a tourer, you’re only partly correct. It depends on where you set your expectations. I’ve covered over 1000kms in a day across Europe on the KTM but I’ve also done Kolkata - Darjeeling in a single day, and Kolkata - Varanasi in one day by Bullet!

Change the swing arm bush from the new low quality nylon bush to the old bullet metal swing arm bush. It also got rubber layered inside. No need to cut any of the bars. Measurements are the same. And around 90% of the vibration will be gone. New bullet are installed with nylon bush. Result, frequent wear n tear n frequent maintenance and services.

And also there's something to be said about the motorcycle and trust me, its not good.
I don't know about the build quality of Royal Enfield classic motorcycles right now, but back in 2015/16, most of the motorcycles were not balanced. As in you couldn't ride it with no hands. It would start pulling in one direction. Mine used to turn to the right direction as soon as i took my hands off the handlebar. I had thought that it was due to wheels but the service guy told me its due to the chassis. 3 out of 8 classic motorcycle i rode (from our group) had this problem. Quality control was not a thing in Enfield back then i guess.
There was no 'look ma, no hands' moment while owning one😂😭😭

Man - If you think this is old school you should ride a Bullet 500 Cast iron version or a Lightning 535.
Also when this bike was launched in 2009 or so, there was no other naked motorbike that would do 132 kph in India. The P220 was the closest competitor.
We did a Ladhak trip in 2010 - this bike climbed Khardungla in 3rd with a 90 KG pillion and 75 kg rider.
This was the first "game changer" motorbike for RE after the AVL based Machismo

My first bike was a used Desert Storm 500 which I bought with my savings of 2 years when I was 21. I sold it and bought a RC 390, then a ninja. Then a dominar. But I realised that even though enfields give you alot of mechanical shit. The enfield gives you a personality. You enjoy getting it repaired. It gives you some sense of progression and identity. And the fact that it isn't that easy to ride. Makes you feel like you're pushing yourself and achieving etuff, versus how easy bikes are nowadays. I now realise that even though its the most unreliable bike ever. It strangely feels like the most sorted bike ever.
