Watching you "shoot through" that straight away on post four at 26:40 gave me some insight on why I seem to struggle with that shot at times. I have been stopping my gun to see it break. Also, I cant believe that pronghorn was letting you shoot right over the top of him!
    Thanks!

Craig, good observation my friend! On that shot you will notice I actually released my trigger low on the bird and at the last milli second swung through the bird. That was actually not a good move to the bird and I got away with one. Normally a move like that would result in a miss. Whew!!! The most common error is jumping the bird and you think you shoot over the bird but actually you lift your head or move your eyes. Just swing to the bird and let your gun's poi do the work. Keep your swing smooth and don't look at the barrel (moving eyes). Great catch my friend and we'll see you on the line!! Stan Baker

How many targets did you have to shoot before you felt like it all started coming together for you? My shooting is really inconsistent right now. I probably have 5,000 targets under my belt since I started between practice and competition.

Craig I am a big believer in the 10,000 rule. Most experts become experts with 10,000 hours. Assuming you are staying with the fundamentals and not reinforcing the don'ts, I would say you should feel comfortable at around the 10m mark. We are in a sport that measures birds or repetitions not hours so I keep track of birds. It is good to keep a log. Now here's the rub! That's practice rounds. To hold your own in meets is a individual thing. If you have an athletic background should take a shorter amount of time maybe 10 registered meets. I do recommend to compete as often as you can whether it's leagues, meets or just a buck a bird with the guys you shoot with. When you start holding your own you might want to try the bigger meets Satellite grands and state shoots they are a lot of fun. Sounds like you are on your way', my fiend, to good shooting! I would also say it's 10m per discipline, singles, handicap and doubles. I look at it like a lifetime process. I'm always a work in progress or so my wife says! In the mean time I wish you good shooting my friend and I will see you on the line!!! Respectfully Stan

Thanks Stan, I just had my worst weekend of the year from a shooting standpoint. I have helped coach a youth team with 40 kids for the past couple of years and have sat through several clinics with the kids and even took an NRA shotgun instructors course. So, my head knows what to do to break targets, but working it out in real life in competitions is another story. I just have to remember, even the best had to start somewhere! Love your videos and all you are doing to promote the sport!
By the way, four of our kids broke their first 25 at the shoot last weekend so I still count it as a win overall!

Hi Stan, for doubles do you recommend a high P.O.I? I was watching your doubles video with Ricky Marshall JR and I notice you guys were talking about how you shot better once you started shooting his Kolar which had a higher P.O.I.

Actually I shoot with a flatter double. 80/20 for both barrels. I know I may have contradicted myself. They sent both barrels to me like that out of the box and that's how I shoot it. I shoot the same poi for singles.
