    That whole conversation about being 'reasonable' just got lost. One of Phil's worst traits is that he's a narcissist. He would be seen in a different light by many people if he wasn't this way but I guess if your whole brand has been to be 'The Poker Brat', then what else can you expect. I realise in 'real life' he may not be this way but unfortunately what people see is that everything is about 'him' and he has to realise that this is the primary reason he gets a lot of shit in my opinion.

      "One of Phil's worst traits is that he's a narcissist."--
      I dont think Phil is a narcissist. I think the mental flaw you are looking for to describe Phil is egomaniac.
      Phil is intelligent and business savvy and so his marketing of himself as a brand may look narcissistic, but if you step back you will see its all ego driven, not self admiration. He really does see himself as the best poker player in the world from his subjective look at his career and what he has accomplished. That subjectivity self deception is why I say it is ego.

    • @ivanbird4260
      @ivanbird4260 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fomori2 Semantics - both can be correct. The dictionary definition of a narcissist is a person who is overly self-involved, and often vain. Even in this video, when talking about Covid he says something like, when the scientists look back maybe they'll say - hey Phil was right - LOL !

      Yes because Doug and you don't know what unreasonable means or you've invented some new meaning of unreasonable. "Oh, we are gamblers, and it's so unreasonable for gamblers to make a bet over a basketball shot". WTF? To then extrapolate this misunderstanding of the word to call the man a Narcissist or Psychopath is the definition of Unreasonable. Doug Phil and Daniel are all at the same level of Narcissism. It's part of being able to make a living on "their brand". It's why you are watching them now on youtube. Making this observation is perfectly reasonable.

Because, frankly, Hellmuth is a hypocrite on being positive. I mean how many hundreds of poker players has he belittled?? How many outbursts at the poker table have we seen?? How many frustrated comments along with excuses does Hellmuth have? Hellmuth speaks just like Trump does. Listen to the first few mins if the pod, close your eyes, and picture trump....
    Note: I am NOT making a moral equivalency between the two. Just an observation of speech pattern

    27:40 there's a fault in your reasoning Doug. GTO strategies are solved under the premise that poker is a game of incomplete information, and that your opponent doesn't know what you have. If Phil has an accurate read on what someone has that will change the equation, because he has more information than the solvers are assuming he has.
    I'm not saying with 100% certainty that Phil has accurate reads, I don't know if he has. But I will say that if he does, it changes the equation.

    No one believes what Charlie Daniels said must be? Obvious Hellmuth has won the most. He has the cards helping him. And cards are a easy way to make money...or trap millions of peoples souls over the course of time as a result. Most casinos are enchanted to some degree and online poker is schemed from site to site. My only question is can we start a Phil Nagy polygraph prop bet? Guarantee that fool is tampering and setting accounts.

    Great interview. I’ve been playing poker for 16 years and over 27,000 hours of live play in mostly mid-stakes games. There are 2 things that Phil talked about that I agree with. Live reads which you can get through years of playing this game or to use his term “white magic” and realizing your limitations in terms of how much you play and him adjusting that as he got older helped him to be more successful. I play more hands than would be optimal because when I’m post flop against players I play with, I feel I have an edge, which has been proven over years. Regarding limitations, I went through the same thing. Just becoming more aware of yourself helped to significantly increase my hourly win rate.

    Good to see Phil answer his indictment in poker court. Doug being a seasoned and decorated prosecuter was fair reasonable. All I can say is I like Phil but I'd hate to try to explain why he sucks but the sad truth is he isn't playing online so there could be some live tell stuff going off. He was wrong about Dnegs being strong the next time he raised however Dnegs plays his ranges. Phily boy couldn't be broken under torture to believe he is wrong that we do know

    Watch Daniels WSOP tournament streams, he literally just punts blinds because of his math. When he does make those punts Daniel is saying I bet this guy in the pot has it but the right math call is 3 bet. Daniel has lost it.

    Phil is a disaster of promo side shows, yet as a live poker player, he has more love and understanding of the game, and has more pure intentions, at least about the poker, than the great majority of players near his level. For most, poker skill is just something gaining them entry to gamble on all sorts of things including their own poker game. For Phil, it's the entry to prove to the world how good a poker player he is, which leads him to treat the game with a lot of respect.

    Look guys, I am a psychologist/poker player, and I can tell you from both professional and personal experience that much of Phil Hellmuth’s success is based on his exceptional ability to read his opponents. Anyone who disagrees with this statement is most likely incapable of tapping into this skill, and therefore rejects the idea that it is possible because they do not understand it themselves. This is precisely where the word MAGIC stems from. To you it may seem like MAGIC…. To the magician however, it is just another day at the office….

    • @LEFTaTIP
      @LEFTaTIP 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Lamar-Boone, sure Hellmuth has exceptional "abilities to read opponents" but is it on the scale of Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson, Stu Ungar, even Doug Polk, Tom Dwan, Justin Bonomo Bryn Kenney??
      Many of Hellmuth's WSOP are bracelets are heads-up against amateurs. I would give Hellmuth more credit if he was grinding it out in the biggest cash games or putting his poker skills online or winning High Roller tournies. As far as "magic" you proclaim or the "White Magic" Hellmuth says he has ...maybe he is just on a good heater.
