- Here's the Non-Grade 1/100 scale Gundam Vidar! Definitely a fantastic kit. Better than the HG in every way, except that it costs twice as much. But hey, it's twice as big and has so many improvements!

I love this kit!
I've only built 6 kits so far, but this one feels so solid in your hand! very few stickers, and the few stickers are easy to apply.
You're missing out if you don't get this I think, I'm so glad I have it!
The mechanical designer is Ippei Gyoubu, who designed a lot of mobile suits from Recongista in G, specially the G-Self, and also made other major designs for IBO, some of which include the Kimaris, Astaroth, and this one above, Vidar.
funny that people knew the Vidar was just a disguised Kimaris even before its debut, that along with the real identity of its pilot.
When I saw Vidar in the OP for the first time was reaction was "Hi Gaelio"

come on guys the show is awesome but the plot it's soo predictible, just with the reviews of the new episode you realize shino will either die or get cut in half, not spoilers, i just fell it
The designer for this worked on Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress....which is anime by the same creative team as Attack on titan.....full circle lol

I put some oil paint in the connection points for those backpack parts, let it set for a week an they stay on perfectly. Works like a poly cap.
Looks pretty nice! Im honestly just getting a little tired of the Barbatos frame.
MixMasterBoon It's the Gundam Frame. All Gundams within the series use this frame. Can't really escape it.

It basically a frame arms, it's bandai try to save some molding cost and they call sell their kits in a reasonable price tag. Just the way it is.
The graze frame are a little different, but I've been unable to find those kits for a decent price, my main retailer only just stocked 1/144 vidar, so idk.
For the loose binders on the backpack of the HG i just added some sticky tac to those ball joints,tighter and the stickiness does a good job keeping them in, and the joint is big enough so no tac sticks out. Could easily do the same here.

I can't be the only one who sees this not just as an _AoT_ reference, but as a possible Arya Stark custom. I mean, apart from _Needle_ you also have the theme of revenge.
I noticed another difference between the HG and the 1/100 scale Vidar and it is the color of the blades. The HG version has grey blade bits which is more show accurate than the black ones that comes in the 1/100 scale kit.
I had the same issue with the chest. you need to push it towards the front once it is pushed up all the way. locks it in sooo much better. its just hard to get it in right.
The front of the MS or the front of the Ahab Reactors.
Towards the front of the piece that covers the cockpit, I'm not sure if the instructions say it locks in place or not, or if it's like the Gusion where it has several thin blades that friction fit it together tightly.

I'm really getting serious Gaogaigar fibes from this design. Headsculpt, shoulders, crotch skirt... I just want to buy this and Kimaris Booster type and build custom Gaogaigar Gundam

Awesome gundam but like all gundam a in iron blood i hate their waist which only seems to be a hydraulic ram looks so weak and stupid like the top and bottom half are barely connected

Do you ever use white backgrounds? On kits like this with fairly dull colors, a white background highlights the details better than the dark.
yes, a lighter background would be good for dark kits. Grey would probably be best, but It bothers me in editing. I like black because I know when I've got a solid black.

I was wondering, I'm planning to use the Tamiya Pearl light blue for maximum color accuracy do you think ill need to use a primer for it? and if so do i use light gray or just normal gray primer?
Grim you definitely need to use primer always. I've never heard of different shades of grey primer, it's usually just plain grey (which is pretty light). There are common alternatives like black, white, and pink~ so you could mix it to the correct shade of grey you want I suppose but I've never tried that.

just bought this guy, but I'm thinking about changing the blue to grey and add some camo patterns to it. Also, is there a way to get more weapons for these? I ask cause I'm pretty new to Gunpla, and would like to know if there's more options in after market weapons.
POWER_Serg Bandai hasn't made official weapon sets for the 1/100 IBO kits like they did for the HG series. But you can get some cool weapons from other sources, Kotobukiya MSG line would be a good place to start, but those tend to be in a scale somewhere between 1/144 and 1/100 when used with Gunpla, so you should consider that.

I will buy this kit, but I really don't like those thrusters Somehow..it kinda annoys me on a weird way.. so bye bye thrusters :D

Really dissapointed with the lack of a kimaris vidar. I would've been fine even with the "2 in 1" gimmick that the 1/100 gusion + gusion rebake had.
This should be "lavender blue" not that horrible blue!! Wtf bandai??
Little disappointed that Vidar's true identity was way to predictable.
I actually like more gaelio team than mcgillis team, i think tekkadan will end up joinning rustal forces
Marrks R Yeah mcgillis's motivations seem more self-serving power hungry ambitions than for the good of other people. I can also imagine that after Mikazuki kills Gaelio, Mcgillis will backstab Tekkadan.
I actually liked how predictable Vidar's identity was, especially how it showed in his fights. The Vidar fought exactly the same way, with Gaelio's hit-and-run tactics being even faster, and the replaceable blades countering all the lance grabbing Barbatos did. The Kimaris basically had more character development than the main character
Good point, I just feel that a totally concealed mystery man just makes the character development unmasking all the more sweeter, but yes the Kimaris is definitely more improved and now it can defeat tougher enemies while still using the lance hit and run techniques
Theories that was Ein actually part of the Vidar were just crazy-talk to me, so that was a surprise, especially how they had a decent reason to use him

This is one of the best Gundam designs ever. The HG kit is not too great though. I love the design though. The bootknife and rapiers give it a roguish aura. It's super cool.

I'm having the worst time trying to assembly this. The arm's joints won't pop in! They seem to big for the holes. How did you do it?
I'd say just check the manual again.

I got this guy and the lupus rex not a fan of the rest of the Barbatos line they all seem to be the same frame
I wish they would have given these ibo kits some decent head movement

I think the ibo gundams are really under powered compared to other gundam series anime
I'd rather have a Gundam be overpowered than 1000+ lasers coming out of every body part
How does this sword work, is it like an automatic center punch?
you get the hilt with 6 blades to use, if that's what you are asking about
The sword is detachable from the blades, in the HG kit, all the blades are molded together, but if you seperate them you can use them all on the same handle, or hilt.
In the full mechanics version, the sword case pulls back, allowing you to take out the blade, like in the show.
With this, it's basically the same as the 1/144, except they aren't molded together from what I've seen.

I want to panelline the black parts of my vidar with a purple gundam marker. Can it be done?
It won’t be very visible. You’d need to use white first then purple

Don't recall if you said it in the review but I remember looking at a page about the 1/100 Vidar's saber side skirt thing having a sliding mechanism.
