I'd consider giving the Little House remake a view if the remake's ambience of 19th century Midwest farm life is more realistic, and not sanitized, as Little House was when Landon produced it.
Take a look at the freshly laundered wardrobe the Little House characters had in the Landon production. That image of the Charles character telling his wife, at the end of the day, of his efforts with plowing acres of land that day, yet, not a hint of looking bedraggling exhausted; instead looking fresh and he was attired with a shirt just taken out of the closet.
Then, there was that Christmas episode with sunshine and dry grass; with the characters outdoors in shirtsleeves. Remarkable how that Midwest winter resembled Southern California in the summer.
No thank you, Netflix.
As I remember, Michael Landon once said that if he had stuck strictly to the books, he would have had 3 episodes of material, at best.
Well then his writers weren’t very good.
@@tonip.3251 Interestingly, what might take 2-3 chapters in a book, would only take about 5 minutes when put on the screen.
which isn’t true..long winter could have been a full season..and he could have done a whole year of farmer boy
@@tonip.3251 That's why I didn't watch the tv show after the original tv movie.
I was a young teen when Little House on the Prairie started on tv. I watched the first couple of seasons but stopped once the story lines totally veered from the books.
I started watching it again in my 20s and loved it since it was now many years since I read the books so I was able to accept and enjoy the new stories and characters when I couldn't do that as a teen. The books were too ingrained in my brain then. I read all the Little House books many times during my childhood and tween years. I probably had memorized many parts back then from reading them so much.
❤ I Adored the Little House books and adored the tv series. I watched it Live on NBC. Quality TV only exists if the show, actors, writers are of that quality. I started watching TV in 1969.... Retro TV greetings from coastal Mississippi 👋🧔
Yes. JAG. The silver fox needs to come back. I love that you catch yourself saying something that sounds silly or dumb and you laugh. You got the greatest smile and laugh. Keep up the good work.
Is ‘ Admiral Chegwidden ‘ ( ? ) still alive?
You being on JAG is the only reason I started watching it (because of Little House. lol), and why, all these years later, I have been a fan of every NCIS. lol. (and yes, and updated JAG to catch us up on the characters would be awesome!)
I'm really skeptical that Netflix can make this any good.
I agree. Whenever I hear about a remake for a classic movie or tv series, I am at best very skeptical.
@grey_wulf It's like when I was happy to see little woman 2019 and I left the theater mad and disappointed. They put in today's policies from the lefts view into a world of yesterday that wouldn't have existed. I just want an ACTUATE HISTORY!
@grey_wulf I just hope they don't take today's issue and weave them into the storyline. I hope they stick to it being historically accurate.
Or make anything good
@yankeedoo2010 ain't the the truth!!! Nothing is quality anymore.
Patrick, I met you and your brother Matthew in Burbank in 1983 at a Actors and Others event, I am the young woman who was to vain to be in picture with you guys!
I'd love to see more Jag 🥰👍
Also, no script from the original series will be "remade" on Netflix. It's apparently closer to the books.
I don't think it's a bad idea, especially since they are being faithful to the books.... and, it's been 50 years, so there are a TON of people who wouldn't otherwise be exposed to the characters and premise yet. I was an avid LHOTP viewer, I read all of the books (and know how they couldn't have been faithful to the locations and kept more than the Ingalls through the entire series), so I will probably check this out to see what they do! Could be cool.
Well said.
Hardly anyone under 30 watches tv, and original LHOTP viewers, who are like 55+, don't gaf about this remake, especially by gross Netflix.
@mprkg Well.... I have two children under 30 who, with friends or on their own, stream tons of shows (because they tell me what they've seen that's good) ... And, I am over 55 and would be curious (as I said) about what they do if Netflix takes the series in a different direction that's interesting. Sooo...
I like the idea. Love the books. ❤
Whether good or bad,Ithink we should hold off on giving any reviews/opinions on the show until we actually see it. From what I understand it's not a remake of the Michael Landon version, it will be the creator of this series' own interpretation.
hmm I'm never keen when someone tries to "remake" something that was a huge hit, there will always be comparisons, no matter what way they are going. Following the books or not and when it's actors nobody's ever heard of, it doesn't help. I think I will reserve judgement. Thank you Patrick, I didn't even know this was happening 😊
If the power grid ever goes down we will all be cast members in Little House on the Prairie
The fact that they're basing it on the books.. most all of the characters on the tv show won't exist. This ought to be interesting!
Um, it won't be based on the books. Liberals will just write woke garbage and use the popularity of Little House to advanced their woke agenda.
lol, I never saw any JAG, but am going to look and see if I can find it now. You have me interested
I am looking forward. Have the chose any cast members? or locations for filming?
Yes, im so glad
Patrick, have you ever highlighted the Sylvia episode?.. Probably the most controversial, talked-about episode online.. I'd love your thoughts.. 😊
Ed Friendly already produced a 6 episode miniseries based on the books in 2005
JAG 2.0? Heck, yeah! RADM Bud J. Roberts, Jr, Judge Advocate General? Heck, yeah! I'd like to see Bud, Harriet and their kids.
Harm, Mac, and Bud''s little bro, Mikey, too. Oh while you have CBS's ear, tell them we want a full title sequence with Bruce Broughton's, awesome theme!
Love the theme!
Landon based the pilot on the books, the other 97% was Landon fantasy, with tons of adopted kids (Jenny, James, Cassandra, Albert, Nancy,)- give me a break and Mary getting married and having a burnt up baby. Sadly, in real life, Mary finished Iowa College for Blind in Iowa after 7 years, returned to DeSmet and lived there the rest of her life with Ma. Tour guide said she had a very sad life of just sitting outside, church meetings.
I will watch and see if I like it
Watch there going to woke the shit out of it,,
Go check out what Melissa Gilbert said about Megyn Kelly when she brought up the idea.
@SarahManley I did,
I grew up watching Bonanza and Little House. Little House was still on primetime when Bonanza started running daily in syndication. That's when I realized that Little House recycled some old scripts from Bonanza. The storylines were exactly the same. But a good story is a good story, even when the setting changes.
I don't know about that. I grew up, watching Little House and, that is something that you can't remake. They tried that with Anne of Green Gables. Also I think the Hallmark channel tried to do the Waltons Homecoming remake. I don't know. Oh, you probably heard that Netflix is building a new studio in NJ formally where FT Monmouth used to be. My neck in the woods.
Little house on the prairie was a TV show that was in the back ground on my childhood but i never really got into it….. by chance i came across the book farmer boy in hardcover and read the cover off of it…. Fifth grade (or maybe fourth) i was gifted a box set of the books in paper back and I read the cover off those ….. this made the TV series even more confusing because while i recognized two of the actors from the series highway to heaven (which was watch alot in my house hold as a small child) it gave me the impression that Michael Landon must have played two roles in the series…. First as charles the father of LIW then as almanzo the husband of LIW… since in the books we never see Carol as a teacher
Just read the books
I started reading LHOTP in Grade 5.
The Real Eliza Jane, as I recall, was the Opposite of Lucy’s Portrayal. But, I don’t think, as bad as ‘ Mr. Applewood ‘ ( Richard Basehart )
Yes, I’ll give the New LH a chance.
Can't remake perfection.
Oh man 🙏yes
Jag shall return
2/1/25
Yes! Bring back JAG. But if you aren’t in it, I’m not watching! 😊
Do you think they will film at Big Sky Movie Ranch?
Might be nice if they filmed it in the actual states the Ingalls really lived in - MN, SD, IA, MO
@@EW-ty6qw I've been to those states. Minnesota is filled with woke liberals. Worst state of the four by far. SD literally looks like Little House on the Prairie. It's everywhere. And there are some gorgeous locations our west near Wyoming. Iowa is really beautiful, one of the most undervalued states aesthetically.
Hello!! Landon blew up the entire town and removed all the sets in 1983 when the atrocious series finale was done filming. The TV series is totally inaccurate too. They lived in DeSmet, Dakota territory when the real Laura was 10-19 when the series takes place! They didnt live in Walnut Grove, Minnesota during her tween and teen years. They lived in Walnut Grive, MN when Laura was 7, 8, 9 and then a year when she was 11.
@@mprkg I suggest we take them to court immediately.
Cool
They'll probably make a spinoff "Nellie" showing her as an empowered girlboss standing up for herself against the patriarchy.
🎯
@kd6836 Maybe I should work for Netflix.
@ Good money; but could you imagine working there?
@@kd6836 If it means I can afford to get my own place, yes.
@ It likely would and maybe you could be entertained by the insanity.
You may at least get a cameo 😊
Michael Landon’s vision was so loosely based on the books that at best the proposed Netflix incarnation will make the original show seem like a parody-if the two are compared. Rather, a Little House Reunion with many of the original surviving cast would be much more well-received if done right. Not an awful unsuccessful remake (like was done for The Waltons) but a true reunion done in the style of the original series. Michael Landon Jr and other creative minds could channel Michael Landon’s original vision. It could take place in the 1930's or 1940's or whatever makes sense relative to the original show’s timeline. It could provide a nice respectful closure for the 70’s Little House tv series before older cast members are no longer with us; and new young cast members could be introduced!
I didn't care for the Anne Of Green Gables adaptation Netflix did. It was ok for a little bit. I also don't think Babysitter's Club adaptation is good either. I don't have high hopes But I will watch it. I watch every Little House adaptation just because I love the books so much and enjoyed the original series as well.
Sounds like fans of the TV series are blurring the lines. The books existed long before the television series. It is easy in television to identify characters with the actors portraying them. But it is very different from original TV shows based on solely fictional (original) characters, versus works based on real life people.
Shakespeare characters have been portrayed for centuries by countless performers. There have been countless actors portraying those same parts, without being linked to one actor for each character.
As indicated here, Michael Landon took characters from a series of books and took poetic license.
It was a very popular series and viewers--as happens in television--strongly got attached to the actors portraying those characters.
Some longtime fans of the books, who read them for years prior to the series existence, might have preferred the book version. Perhaps even rejecting or resenting the major alteration/differences, that occurred in the TV show version.
Both are understandable, the TV show fans and the book-only fans.
Yet, again, the books existed long before the television series.
The characters belong to two separate groups of fans.
While one can certainly appreciate the strong protective nature of the TV characters preferred version (and I am a dyed-in-the-wool lifelong Bonanza fan who totally understands that. No one could ever portray the original four Cartwrights in my eyes (and certainly not in my heart) and I would be heartbroken if Hollywood ever attempted it.
But Bonanza was an original concept and not based on a series of already published books. Not based on real life people and written by one of its main characters.
The Little House books came first and there lies the conflict : TV show fans vs. the book fans.
Both are protective of their version.
I strongly empathize with the TV show fans. But fans of the book deserve empathy, as well.
If it's true to the books rather than Michael Landon's inane contemporization of those books, I would be happy to watch it. But I don't have much faith in Netflix.
It's like trying to remake the Wizard of Oz...you can try but never, never capture the magic of the original.
As long as Barack Obama & Michelle Obama aren't involved in profiting off of the remake I'll be checking it out.
No offense to you or the cast but after a few seasons your series, though great, didn't follow the books anymore. Perhaps a loyal follow of the books is needed this time. It could be a hit.
I'm a huge fan of the books and the series. But I don't understand all the vitriol over a new interpretation. So many people are not really understanding the nature of the project and just going off the deep end over the idea of a remake of ANY kind.
This notion to bring in former cast members is pretty silly ; it doesn't need to be some sort of tribute to the original series.
I'm curious as to what it will look like. There is a resurgence of 19th century pioneer themed shows and folks are watching. So why not!? And I feel no sense of "loyalty" to Michael Landon and his version. It was, hands down, a GREAT show. But he's was not the only creative talent in Hollywood. This new version can't erase what he did.
Good points.
Although I like the idea of a show based on the books I can’t imagine Netflix being a good platform for it but we’ll see.
Charles will be black, Caroline will be Asian. Laura will be gay and Mary becomes a dude in season 3.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YOU HAVE GOT TO KIDDING NO MORE FRIGGIN REMAKES LEAVE THE ORIGINALS ALONE
I hope the former stars will make a guest appearance! I'd love to see everyone who is still alive. It would be great to see the guest stars to. Maybe they will add them in at the last minute
Never ever be the same or even close!😊
I agree. CBS, bring back JAG.
Dude, talk about going off script: your brother was on Little House for several seasons! What does he think of it? Personally, I'm expecting Netflix to DEI the whole production. I'm not watching it!
I’m not exactly thrilled about this. Especially nowadays when they seem to ruin everything.💁🏻♀️👒
I won't watch for two reasons I don't have Netflix and there is can only be one show and that is that you and your cast mates were in. I saw a Walton remake and the original was better
It’s another adaptation of the books-like the musical, like the Disney movie. It’s not a reboot of the Landon interpretation of the material.
Tired of all the remakes. It doesn't do justice to the original shows. Honestly they don't know how to write good shows today. Don't ruin it for those of us whom love the original "Little House on the Prairie."
Oh my god, no. Stop with the remakes. I don't care how close it is to books or the 70s show. No body can come up with original content anymore. 🙄
I'm not a fan of remakes or reboots, I think they should leave the classics alone. There's no reason to remake LHOTP anyway since it's timeless.
Super yet!
If it’s anything like the remake of the Walton’s Christmas A Homecoming, no thank you. That was awful.
Let's see if today's producers that are supposedly grown from the time of the original little house in the park can figure out how to get it right instead of destroy the show and it's followers by making a woke unrelatable story. You will never be able to take today's society and put it back in the 1800s. I try to make that work. Hopefully they stick to the books. And they actually follow that story instead of the woke b s that netflix is famous for.. The only thing that could be worse than Netflix. Producing this at this point would be if It was produced by Disney so. Let's hope they don't destroy the story we all grew to love. Let's hope they can keep away from their woke. Ideologies in this show that should have no woke ideologies. It was eighteen hundred that did not exist
No thanks. You can never beat the original. It will be too boring to watch a reboot of the version
Leave it alone. I’ll pass.
Thank you for this! It does help clarify a few things. I’m crossing my fingers. Good things have come out of Apple TV, Netflix, etc. but equally, a lot of not so good things. For me, Willy Wonka stands out. the Tim Burton version, I just couldn’t enjoy, even if it was technically closer to the books.
No thanks l was brought up with Charlie and laura and mary and Carolyn and Kerri ingalls has a kid .stick to the original show .❤❤🇬🇧🇬🇧
It will not be the same as the original.
they blew up the set for a reason, so some shekelstien netflix company couldn't come and use it
If the shows were based on what Michael was going through in his life then tell me which episode does he treat women like dirt (like he did Karen Grassle) and then cheat and leave his wife a couple of times. Also, which episode did he neglect his children and not treat them well after he found another woman. Just curious.
He didn't say the character of Charles was based on Michael Landon's life he said the show was based on things in Michael's life. Those things were dealt with. All those things you mentioned were dealt with and more by various characters.
The tv series was never based on Landon's life at all. It's ironic that Landin write at least 8 episides about alcoholism- Mr. Edwards several times, the drunk father of Todd killed on the docks in Chicago, the drunk father who beat his child son, the woman who was shamed by Mrs. Olsen in her cousins tabloid newspaper, the other father who lost his oldest son, and then neglected his younger son and daughter, Grace Edwards divorcing Isiah over alcoholism, Lars' drunk ex-friend who saves Carrie from the hole... and Landon and Victor French (and Shannen Doherty) all die at 53/54 from booze and chain smoking for decades!
No thanks!
Oh no. Netflix will screw it up. Just watch. But then again, I hated Michael Landon's Little House on the Prairie. Too syrupy for my taste.
Agree about Netflix! Don't know what syrupy means to you, but I love Little House on the Prairie!! My life might be syrupy, but I love it.
@@johnbaldridge1303 I am glad you and millions of people enjoy it. It wasn't my cup of tea, but I recognize it made a lot of folks happy. And that's quite an achievement.
Look at Pat trying to get a paycheck from CBS. Wouldn't Bud be close to mandatory retirement age from the Navy?
Thumbs down on this lame remake. Its not a reboot like Roseanne. The real Laura started writing the books in her early 60s in Missouri with Rose largely editing them. Why didbt they just have Melissa return (sges 60),, Dean Butler, and Jennifer Coleman (Donati) repricing her role as a now adult Rose Wilder Lane. One of the (Carrie) Greenbush twins and Turnbaugh twins (Grace) could have appeared as well in a new Missouri setting. Ma and Mary died in 1920s so no. But the series could have focused on Laura getting her books published, and Rose Wikders travels overseas, particularly her beloved Albania. Rose had a fascinating life writing extensively and traveling, being a woman reporter in SF, etc. I'm pissed about this new series. I don't think any lhotp fans are excited about it at all
If you give it a chance you might just like it. Don't prejudge
Awful "fun" fact- twins played Rose Wilder on tv (the first set) and one died (Sarah Coleman) at only 9, screwing around on a dirt bike or kids bike with zero adult supervision. The actress who played Rose Wilder in the lame remake with John Boy playing Charles in "Beyond the Prairie", Skye Bartusuiak, died from a drug OD at 21. She also appeared in 1 episode of JAG
No one asked for this remake. It is not a reboot- like Roseanne. Ed Friendly was a real jerk, and Landon hated him. It got so bad that Landon told NBC it was either him or Ed Friendly . So they paid Ed a ton of money to go away. I eont be watching this remake garbage! And Landon didn't base the tv series off the books, exceot the pilot. 96% of the TV series was Landon making up characters and plots that never happened
No one asked for this remake! How dusgusting and greedy of Friendly family.
I will most certainly be watching the Netflix adaptation of the 𝐿𝑖𝑡𝑡𝑙𝑒 𝐻𝑜𝑢𝑠𝑒 books, NOT expecting our beloved NBC Michael Landon version starring Patrick Labyorteaux (who was really the main cast member since 1974 -- three years before he was actually seen on the show as "Andy Garvey"). Another Netflix readaptation in the works: John Steinbeck's 𝐸𝑎𝑠𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝐸𝑑𝑒𝑛! The novel's timeline is close to the 𝐿𝑖𝑡𝑡𝑙𝑒 𝐻𝑜𝑢𝑠𝑒 books, spanning from about 1862 through 1918. If you think Nellie Oleson is mean and Nancy is horrid, then you've never met Cathy Ames/Kate Trask (and her aliases in-between). She literally is a born psychopath (Steinbeck proves it with his brief essay that begins her life in the book) who grows into a petite woman with the face and voice of a seductive angel, a girl "with a taste for revenge and a thirst for evil" who thrives on destroying people. She's basically a female Hannibal Lecter -- without the cannibalism. I'm okay with the 1955 film adaption, which only covers the last quarter of the book, because it has great qualities in its own right. The 1981 ABC Novel for Television miniseries, however, rules! It covers the whole book and Jane Seymour, age 29 during the filming, shoots her acting wad for the part of Cathy Ames/Kate Trask (the juvenile actress who briefly plays Cathy gets no screen credit nor an IMDb listing ... which is maddening!). It's considered by many, including Steven Spielberg, as Jane's opus performance. She is downright scary at times. The miniseries -- without commercial breaks -- runs a total of 384 minutes. Two VHS versions were available for years -- one was 375 minutes (with only one opening and closing credit sequence) and another cut down to only 4 hours. The miniseries in its entire 384 minutes has been available on DVD since March of 2009. Ps. Whenever you get a chance, visit the John Steinbeck library in Salinas, California. It's practically a landmark. My Grandma Shirley was a supervisor there for several years during the 1970s, 1980s and a bit of the 1990s. I spent many hours in there during my summer vacation Grandma Shirley visits. That is partially why I'm a raging Steinbeck queen!
Netflix will ruin It 💯 percent like everything else they touch
