It’d be nice if artists would leave terms like “branding” or “rebranding” to the marketing world, and just focus on the music instead of social media gimmicks
One day you will realize this is a music business. The business side of that includes marketing and promotion. It’s been like that before rap music. It’s not about social media gimmicks it’s about independent artist finding way to create interest and hype around their projects.
Maybe that’s why mainstream music is so consistently shitty. Everybody’s busy building a brand instead of working on their craft. The Beastie Boys didn’t need a brand. They were themselves and people liked it.
