The Helmeted Hornbill Is a Living Treasure-and That’s a Problem.
Over the last decade, Helmeted Hornbills have experienced a dramatic increase in poaching for their casque, which is carved into luxury objects similar to elephant ivory. In addition, loss of old-growth forests, required for nesting hornbills, further threatens this species, and as a result it leapt from Near Threatened to Critically Endangered in 2015.
In the remote old-growth forests of Southeast Asia lives the Helmeted Hornbill-a spectacular bird with an immense bill that seems like a work of art. Sadly, those ivory-like casques have spurred a wave of poaching that is driving the species toward extinction.
Photojournalist Tim Laman documents intimate details from their nests and a growing movement to stop the illegal trade.

Such a majestic creature. So shameful that some people would rather kill these species for a shiny piece of souvenir than see them soaring eternally in equally majestic rainforests. The conservationists deserve our support and gratitude for doing a noble job and preserving invaluable species for posterity.

👍🤚excellent documentary my friends. It is heartbreaking to know humans are still killing birds every day for many reasons but none justify killing this precious bid. So happy you are trying to bring awareness to stop the killings. Thank you for sharing this. I truly hope you get donations to help fight to protect these beautiful birds. From Florida

It is too pathetic to see how the human being can become so abominable, how they can kill incredibly majestic creatures to turn them into useless crap ... It is very unfortunate so much ignorance and so much unjustified greed. Thank you so much guys for trying to remedy this behavior through the love and respect towards animal life and its environment.

There might be a shortcut in the way of artificial nesting hollows, but the biggest threat - humans - remains. Many countries don't have the resources to devote toward such a project; and that is IF the species in question will accept artificial burrows.
Education is likely the best solution.

The Native Tribe in my hometown know what time it is by hearing the sounds of this birds, they make a sound every hour, thats when the native knows what time it is. But then they are be hunted for their casque. The way to help is not buy the casques and cutting down old tall trees. If the buying stop the killing stop.

For anyone who dosen't know the "Rhinoceros Hornbill Bird" is now on the endangered list which is so sad because this creature looks very intregaing and I became horrified to know it became this way because of plantations of oil palm trees.
And theirs alot of food we didn't know that has palm oil in it For Example : Tastykake products have Palm oil in them so if you are a person who likes Tastykake like me that didn't know about this information then you and I are unconsciously hurting the RHINOCEROS HORNELL BIRD!
Please be aware of what your eating and what's inside the food your eating! And spread the word if you want to!
