  • You're WRONG about Assassin's Creed Shadows
It's fair to say that is a tonne of controversy surrounding Assassin's Creed Shadows; so much so that AC Shadows has been delayed until February 14th 2025.
But is the hate for Assassin's Creed Shadows all warranted? I don't think it is, and in today's video; we're going over why I think Assassin's Creed Shadows will be great.

I try not to listen to all the hype or hate a game has before it’s even released. I wait to play it myself to see what I make of it, and not go by what “the internet” says.
I remember being a kid and the only things you’d find out about a game is what you read in a magazine, then you buy and play the game and it far exceeds expectations, or it was a bit meh and it lived on the shelf gathering dust. There was none of this polarising media that drew up hate for a game before I had it in my hands… kinda wish we could go back to those innocent days

I personally am new to assassin's creed, my first game was Valhalla, I got it as a gift from my friend last year on my birthday. I liked it. It's what got me into this franchise and currently I'm looking forward to playing black flag. When I saw how much outrage ubisoft was causing i got confused (I would like to mention as of now that I am NOT defending ubisoft, just giving my thoughts). People have been complaining about Odyssey and Valhalla not being assassin games when all games in the series have missions that involve "blending in" while wearing clothes that (would logically) completely give away the fact that you're an assassin and "assassinating" people in plain sight. I am NOT saying that games like god of war should be considered stealth games if that's the case, Im saying that if Odyssey and Valhalla have the things I mentioned, assassin's creed mechanics, and are canon to the franchise, then they should be considered assassin games too. And now they complain about historical innacuracy when it comes to a game that is part of a series of games that open up with the phrase "this work of FICTION was INSPIRED by historical events and characters", not to mention that the isu have existed from day one, which is weird because the isu have almost nothing to do with the real world and ubisoft said with their own words that they removed the crossbows to maintain historical accuracy, and people are comparing this whole crossbow thing with historical inaccuracies from the newer games when they existed within this francise from day one. Either I'm missing something here, or the ac fanbase is extremely hypocritical.

No, the frustration is that there is an obvious political edge that leaks into creative decisions and there are GLARING unpolished aspects to much of the world and mechanics; and the inflation of larger companies under the pressure of shareholders and publishers leads them down this path of shamelessly hawking the tired system of “Pre order/deluxe edition/ monitize/we are that big company-you buy our games now/mechanics designed for longgg term play for monitizations lifespan.
Alot of the internet is just “hate” because there is a human feature that lives in us all, despite how noble you are or not, that gets a slight satisfaction of sticking it to the man and jumping in mob energy, etc; but objectively the yasuke and female protagonist features are a tired trope of large company dei(I know that term dei is used a lot. But in this case I’m using it very intentionally).
Even if they were thoughtfull about the hours of story and dialogue and character- building created around it, it is still very influenced around the fact that a board of decision makers think it
Would be the most widely review and profitable set of characters. And not a few creative minds saying “this would be the most natural and human or fun story.
Historically accurate perfection is not an issue in my opinion..they don’t have some profound responsibility to live up to that….but there is an obvious and tireing modern thing that is being done with this subtle tinge of righteousness; of making women and, queer and persons-of-color into the hero rolls. And you can smell when it’s being done with utmost creative sincerity and when it was pretty influenced by force or even with a lesser creative mindset at play. And it BLOWS my mind that out of all the DEI being forced into (righteously and with contempt) stories and games, they don’t explore things like a super bad ass west African game or something. Modern or historical. Instead they choose a very beloved, and very very isolated phenomenon of culture and history that is absolutely dripping with uniqueness and they place a character so out of place but bombastically present in such a world. Infact all that said. The idea of an African retainer or previous slave who happens to be much larger and stronger than the majority of that lands people, fucking shit up for the sake of an ideal or for the care of soemthing they love or even justice is a fun idea…..but there is just something about the way the corporate latches on to the remote little island of possibility of that, that is an unexplainable annoyance.

So because the main character isn’t fictional (although clearly heavily embellished as we have an incredible limited amount of knowledge on him) making stuff up isn’t ok?
But with say, George Washington in the AC 3 expansion, whom goes mad with power and becomes an insane King, that is perfectly fine, because he isn’t the main character? They’re tonnes of other historical characters in AC with examples like this too.
