Looking after a gentleman with two charcot feet. T1DM, and even with regular diabetic foot clinics. He developed diabetic neuropathy and foot ulcers, gained weight, and both feet collasped.
He luckily can still walk on his mangled feet. He attends the hospital weekly for podiatry foot dressings. If things flare up or signs of infection, then he goes through routine of IV abx, and ruling out osteomyelitis. Pretty tough when you are 62. Keeping your diabetes in check is crucial to avoiding this outcome. It's worthwhile remembering that every organ gets damaged by diabetes.

How long did it take from surgery to be able to join everyone fishing and walking?

Thank you for the reply. I'll get all your information and I'll talk with my wife who is a RN at Orange Park Medical here at Orange Park Florida in Jacksonville. I'm looking at sometime next year to have this surgery redone. Thank you so much for the info.

I was ex with Charcot in February this year. I have a boot and now a brace that is painful and I need to call dr back but I am so disgusted with how I’ve been treated. I’ve have 2 failed back surgeries and have had numbness in feet for long time Then do with pre diabetes
Now I’m diabetic Why are GP not educated about this horrible disease and diabetes? I went to 4 different Dr’s from mid-2023 to Feb 2024 No one treated it 2 podiatrists did nothing Drained a cyst and when foot became swollen (double the size) red and hot, THEN podiatrist took X-rays and dumped the diagnosis on me…..this was in March. Im scared to death and am so tired of not being able to do much of anything. Can you please help me I’m 69 and want to play with my grandchildren AND be able to take care of myself. Thank you!

What about weight loss and better blood sugar control? No one seems to want to talk about the 400 pound elephant in the romm.

Where is this doctor located at? I had this done but the doc that did it rushed through it and it was a bust. Another doc told me that the doc that did this to me should of used a titanium rod from the front of my foot and into my ankle. All of my bones are still in my foot.I want this redone, can this doctor help me? My foot is not deformed like most cases. My arch is collapsed.I need help, this is killing me.

Poor man but why don't they tell him the obvious - he needs to make other lifestyle choices or he will lose that foot anyway.
