Those first two shots kinda establish the basis for the DLC, and how you are likely going to access it in the game. The first shot will already look familiar to a lot of the people who have played the game, and the second shot confirms it: it's a particular location in the base game and an optional boss arena. Thing is, the egg is a plot thread that was left hanging, with lots and LOTS of lore in the game that links back to it but is never resolved. And there's more stuff related still that is found through datamining game files for unused stuff. So, this is definitely a case of them fleshing out something that they had certainly planned for before but that turned out too large in scope for it to make it into the original game.

Bandai Namco is the publisher of the Dark Souls games and Elden Ring, whereas From Software is the developer. Polish game developer *QLOC,* developed the remaster of Dark Souls. Bandai Namco owns the rights to Dark Souls, whereas From just recently acquired the full rights to Elden Ring from them.
Other From Software developed games: Demon's Souls (remake by Bluepoint Games) and Bloodborne are both owned and published by Sony Entertainment Interactive, Activision owns the rights as publisher to Sekiro and From Software owns the rights to the Armored Core franchise but have had other companies publish the games in the series on their behalf.

Elden Ring is a special type of game. My first souls game, and it has changed my view on gaming forever. Singlehandedly got me into the souls genre and I'm now going through all of their older games and having the time of my life. Elden Ring I can only describe the feeling playing it, similar to how games felt when you were a kid, so easy to lose hours upon hours playing.
This DLC could elevate it to the best game of all time.

Most especially DS1, DS3 and Bloodborne and of course Elden Ring is my favorite. I was expecting awesome for Shadow of the Erdtree, but Miyazaki and From Soft just keep topping themselves. This trailer was absolutely epic. I know its just the trailer, but we already know the main game, its game-play, the graphics, the world-building and of course the lore. The Empyrean Miquella is inside that cocoon. He embedded himself in the Haligtree in order (we think) to cure himself of his curse or eternal childhood. This process was interrupted when his Half Brother Mohg tore him from the tree in order to use him to bring about a new evil dynasty (contrary to Miquella who seemed to be accepting of all). Those first two cuts are in Mohg's (*Lord of Blood) boss room after you defeat him. The trailer straight up says that you use Miquella's hand there in order to transport to the Shadow world where the DLC takes place.

What I enjoy about the boss design in Elden Ring compared to others is that for 1 if you look at the boss in the trailer that spins around spits smoke and blasts lightning yes he looks big but every part of his body is actually involved in how he moves. Its not just 1 lump of pixels with a few seperate parts. Also if you look closely at the spinning kick every time the character lands a hit you can actually see a reaction on the target it hits. Truly amazing work. Not saying this to fanboy out but not a lot of games have this. It is either this static little step back with an oompf sound or they just keep walking forward (in my experience).

I really love how FromSoftware does its gameplay trailers. They are insanely cinematic and yet they are not cutscenes. All there is to it is the developers playing the game. The only thing they manipulate is the camera angles to capture a scene. Besides that, everything and as in every character's motion, run, walk, attack, dodge, and casting is possible in-game.

from software is a Triple AAA studio not indie, its not that they dont have the manpower its that Miazaki cares more about creating a visually beautiful world, graphics and fluid combat system that feels fun and engaging then realistic graphics or realism, from software are not known for their realism but their incredible world design, armor and weapon design etc. theirfore details that are normally present in a lot of triple AAA games are not present because Miazaki cares about making a good game experience, graphically this game is alright but visually this game is insanely gorgeous

One of the things I really like a lot about Fromsoftware is that they put a lot of effort into sticking very closely to the concept art that their (immensely talented) artists create, even to the point that NPC's idle poses will often match the concept art perfectly. I think in Elden Ring in particular they did an incredible job of matching the look and feel of the concept art for the environments of the game, giving the environments a vast sense of scale and a very painterly look to them, and they've obviously continued to do that with the DLC.

9:36 As just a casual gamer with no experience in animation, or game programming at all, I appreciate that insight!! I thought about that and tried to explain it to friends that didn't understand why I liked the souls games so much. You just confirmed what I thought about many years ago, as to why I love PLAYING these games. When something is motion captured, I feel as if control is being taken away from me. I know the key framing doesn't look as good on screen, but it FEELS so good! It's the way I grew up playing games in the 1980's, the souls games feel like playing "grown up" retro games 😊

To expand on your comment of FromSoft not having thousands of people working on these games, you are right on the mark. As of last year, the company only has 400 employees that are also split in two or sometimes even three teams that are making different games. One team was making Elden Ring for awhile, while the other was working on Armored Core 6. But just recently, after the major success of ER and the moderate success of AC6 (it being pretty niche as a mecha game) they've started to expand and will probably be able to come out with these major games on yearly basis.

The reason elden ring is so fantastic is if you take a look at the pyre man fight you'll pick up that it's some sort of torture device for the people inside and that there is some sort of brooch with what looks like a sun, you can also see the same thing in the painting of the man and the lady.
You can also see the same thing when you see the wasted corpse pulling the blade out of his eye, and if you pay even more attention you'll notice is the same guy of the painting.
So we've garner that the symbol is either to differentiate the punished populace that has commited some sort of crime derserving of the burning of their people, or that they are the punishers and made such a heinos torture device. We've also garnered that some leader of that faction has been wasted away and it's probably insane.
The game won't give you some exposition dump about this thing, chances are you'll have to investigate with items and NPC dialogue to deduce the meaning. We, fans of the franchise, can figure some stuff since we've seen so much of "content" with the sort clips, even the roar has some lore within.
This game wastes no resources, they don't make a curved sword because they think they have plenty of medieval european swords, no, they would have it to some foregeing forces that are slaves of the erdtree, or some other thing. Every piece of armor, weapon and soul has a story. You can hear it, if you listen carefuly.

What you see in that cocoon is the body of Miquella, a demigod that was kidnapped by one of his older siblings so that he could become a God from the influence of an Outer God called "The Formless Mother", which is basically some kind of eldritch lovecraftian god of blood. You find that cocoon in Mohg's (the sibling i mentioned earlier) boss room. You presumably will touch the hand to travel to the DLC in the land of shadow.
Miquella is also the angelic looking character at the end of the trailer. His body is all messed up in Mohg's boss room because of Mohg/The Formless Mother's influence.

For the lore, Miquella is the son of queen Marika and the previous Elden lord Radagon.
Miquella, also known as St. Trina was known for his charming abilities. His St. Trina alias however, specialized in afflicting sleep.
in the lore, Miquella was a demigod, and a vessel for an outer god. These vessels are known as Empyreans, and he was often referred to in-game as the Empyrean Miquella. He remained without an outer god however, making him basically a useless vessel.
In his life, he experimented with a material known as unalloyed gold. It was said to be able to prevent the meddling of the outer gods, breaking his curse of being an Empyrean, and curing his twin sister of the poison brought by the deity that inhabited her, as she was an Empyrean as well.
But when he used the unalloyed gold needle on himself during the war of the demigods referred to as “the Shattering”, he fell into a deep slumber. And as his sister and guardian was off fighting in the war, Miquella was kidnapped by his own half-brother, Mohg the Omen.
Mohg was obsessed with the birth of his own dynasty. The Mohgwyn Dynasty of Blood. He was not however, an Empyrean, so he needed one to accept his own god, the Formless Mother, the goddess of blood.
Miquella, as an Empyrean, was able to accept her.
Mohg’s plan was then to take the formless mother as his consort and at last start his dynasty of blood.
but for an unknown reason, the formless mother rejected Miquella as a host.
And for centuries, Mohg kept Miquella in that cocoon in his mausoleum, feeding him his blood, just hoping that the formless mother would one day accept Miquella as her host.
That leads us (the playable character) to the room where we battle with Mohg and kill him.
Elden Ring has some seriously weird lore.
A lot of murder and incest.

5:10 The lore in a simplified way: This is an cocoon in a palace which contains the body of a dude called Miquella. He was kind of captured by this other dude called Mohg and placed in the cocoon where he sleeps eternally. Mohg was banished from society to the sewers of Leyndell capital but escapes, taking Miquella with him and now resides in the Palace of Blood (the ruins we see around it) otherwise known as Mohgwyns Palace. And the arm supposedly belongs to Miquella, and is the most common guess for where the entry point for the DLC is located.
P.s. - this probably makes little to no sense 😞 but the lore of this game is so incredibly deep and confusing that its almost impossible to do in one comment

Inside the egg is the demigod and empyrean (a candidate for true godhood) Miquella. As others have mentioned, Miquella is kinda the biggest loose end with the most fleshed out details in the lore it's always been obvious that the DLC would be about him. In the lore he's portrayed as fundamentally benevolent, but with hints at a dark side with him being described as *compelling* people to love him. In the lore of the base game, he was attempting to raise himself to godhood and was well on the way to doing so before he was kidnapped out of his sanctuary by Mohg, another demigod whose boss arena is where that big egg is. Before this trailer it was assumed that Miquella would have succeeded in becoming s god were it not for Mohg's interference. With this trailer and interviews with Miyazaki,, it seems that Miquella intentionally died in order to achieve some unknown ends in this "shadow" dimension.

You should definitely try a fromsoft game. Something they do that I really can't seem to find anywhere is they show don't tell. They might've used unique camera angels for this add but these animations will almost definitely all be handled in game in the engine.
Also they have very clean hitboxes you don't really see outside fighting games. It creates a unique tight gameplay.

Actual real-life Dancing Tiger (or the Tiger Dance as we called in in Mandarin) looks almost like how it moves in this trailer.
Of course, dancers can't fly or float. And you have to see the version done by professional dancers. The head moves like crazy, the back twist like it have it's the real deal. And in the dragon version, tails would have more tricks than the tiger version.

Just be warned, that the entrance to this DLC, that egg with the arm out of it, is in my personal opinion one of the biggest skillchecks i've ever seen to access a DLC. It requires findin an out-of the way region of the map you will quite probably not stumble on on your own, with a questline that's pretty obscure and off the beaten track, to a difficult and high-level area and a boss at that egg that's one of the hardest in the game that needs a very specific solution or else it is nearly impossible (nearly, not totally, have seen people beat it).
Personally i cannot wait to try it out for myself!

It's definitely not a coincidence! FromSoftware games have very few coincidences. The folks over there know that the players go over every inch of their games with a fine-toothed comb to piece together the lore, so they have a very "no details are too small, no secrets are too hidden" design philosophy. There's a bunch of folks in the community that have already posted hour-long videos just based on what the trailer here reveals alone. It's absolutely wild when you start looking into this kind of stuff.

You should definitely play Elden Ring if you haven't! Elden Ring is an impossibly massive game with a wide variety of enemies and environments and biomes to discover. The way they tell their stories is pretty minimal, kind of the opposite of a narrative driven game like God of War. In a way, the story of the game is what happens when you play it. Try to go in as blind as you can, and if you run into a difficulty wall, go a different direction and come back to try again later when you're stronger. The game teaches this to you by killing you, so don't get discouraged if you die!

  • @tywins3669

Miquella is actually supposed to stay hidden in his cocoon for the duration of Elden Ring's story. Miquella has locked himself within that self-made prison in the hope it will allow him to age. Both he and Malenia, a character some players will know very well, have been cursed to stay young forever.
