Hi I didn't do anything special for the lamberts. I just created them ahead of time so I didn't have to pick new colors. This video might help you out though if you new to creating materials. th-cam.com/video/65nv5KDNXIY/w-d-xo.html
So i'm trying to make a low poly terrarium around a fox i've made, i was curious if you'd use a similar technique with the reduce technique on something with specific features/details like a fox. I quickly half assed tried it and it came out okay didn't quite have the quality look i was looking for. Curious to know your take on this and other similar models :)
When you say terrarium do you mean some type of enclosure for the fox? You could try the low poly terrain tutorial I posted. However without knowing the type of game you are making such as open world vs platformer, it's difficult to know what techniques will be suit your art asset/environment. th-cam.com/video/QID6vpMqryY/w-d-xo.html
@@DigitalDreambox less so an enclosure but more so just a mini plane decorated with woodland features. It’s actually not for a game I more so just wanted to make it and do a little photo shoot of it with some nice lighting for my portfolio
@@Yiannio222 In that case I would check out that tutorial I linked you. The landscape in low poly art if you look is usually quite simple and the props and lighting is what will make your scene. It sounds like it will be a great looking piece and I bet it'll be a lot of fun to make. Good luck!
@@DigitalDreambox Hey! sorry to be a pain but i thought i'd ask you about another aspect of my design, in my piece i have a river going through the middle, i was wondering what approach you'd take to implementing that into a low poly environment. My current technique is simply to use boolean difference to create the basin and then just use a blue plain to create a river over that. This approach does the job but i've been really impressed by your stuff and would love to know how you'd approach making a river :)
@@Yiannio222 Hi what I would do would be to combine the techniques in the Landscape tutorial along with the Freeze Tool. That's the tool on the Sculpting shelf with a snowflake on it. It allows you to mask out a area of the geometry. Just invert your brush with the Alt key to carve/push in the mesh. You can add lakes, canyons, and rivers that way. It would be really effective in creating your river. As for the river itself I would probably use a separate plane as you mentioned but lightly sculpt it so that those polygons can reflect the light in an interesting way. Hope this helps.
hii, i have a question, how do I retopology or remesh in maya2019? I have read the steps that you have put in a comment of Maya 2018, but I do not get any button next to the MEL. and sorry for my english
Hi sorry for the late reply. Mel is the Command line and all versions of Maya should have it and you would just enter your scripts in the box. There isn't a button. On my editor I can enable it by going to Windows > UI Elements > Command Line.
Hi in Maya 2018 you may be able to access the Remesh and Retopology feature through the Command Line (The box beside MEL at the bottom of the screen). Select your mesh and then enter polyRemesh; for Remesh or polyRetopo; for Retopologize. After that open your Attribute editor and look for either the polyRemesh1 or the polyRetopo1 tabs and you should be able to change the settings there.

I may be misunderstanding your question but pressing 3 gives you a smooth preview so just don't press it if you don't want to see it. To change the preview level you can go to Attribute Editor > Smooth Mesh > Subdivision Levels > Preview Division Levels.
I love the way you teach, step by step on how to model things in Maya is the best way I learn.
Thank you and glad you are liking the format! I do want to keep this channel and especially the low poly section as learning friendly as possible.
@@DigitalDreambox well you are doing a good job at it. keeping rocking it and you will continue to grow
@@ExpressionGaming Thanks and for sure!
I've just discovered your videos and the low poly videos have been incredibly helpful for learning shortcuts and everything! Love your work :D

Thanks man 🙏🏻 been looking for something like this on maya for ages! Will be watching all your videos over the next couple of weeks 👍🏻
Many thanks. I appreciate the support!
Thanks for the video ! I love it, and will probably use it for my project.
No problem! I had to be a speed through some parts to keep the video length reasonable so I'm sure yours will look even better.
I love the way you teach,
Thanks!
I've learned many things from you. Very clear and kind and easy. Thank you so much!
I love your videos, please keep going! Most of the 3d art channels give up after a while and it's a real trouble for us students
I'm happy you are finding them useful. Best of luck in school!
Wow, that was quick and easy. I am a beginner so this was very helpful. Thnkyou ❤️
No problem glad I could help!
Great tutorials! Thank you for your contributions they do not go unnoticed. I'm learning a lot from you!
Thanks glad you are enjoying them!

When i press 3 my trees get very circular, but I prefer how they look in polygon mode? Is there a way to make them look like that permanently?

i have to ask is ...why to triangulate the mesh....?? please help me
Triangles are the simplest polygon so it's a common look in low poly art. It's up to you though. Some low poly props I do not bother triangulating.
Thank you
