Once again thank you for bringing Biodiversity to our classes discussion 🥰 in fact, in Portugal, Octopuses are very much appreciated and cooked for special occasions, like Christmas, in family meals. My 95 year old aunt, Aurora, used to cook them like no one else...it was delicious...I didn't know then what I know now...they are indeed very Intelligent and sensitive which worries me regarding these prospects of increased consumption 😢
«they are indeed very Intelligent and sensitive which worries me regarding these prospects of increased consumption 😢» -- They say they are sentient. As for the 'sensitive', do not hope that an (not cooked) octopus can feel how you feel. Increased consumption implies increased number of octopuses' lives that wouldn't exist if not destined for consumption. And they are not going to suffer since they, not watching tv and/or reading newspapers, are not going to be aware of their destiny.
Octopuses may be delicious due to their umami flavour, but they are sentient animals, and farming them is hard and might be unethical. They have a complex life cycle, and they are solitary creatures, which makes keeping octopuses in captivity difficult. Octopuses show typical characteristics of sentient creates, such as trade-off behaviour.
Hello dear professor Your lessons are really interesting and crucial,i do appreciate your job,i wish you peace and happiness under the sky of prosperity, all the best. Take care and have a good time.
«When Beth answered the question, she said he (octopus). Is it correct to say (he) for animals instead of (it). Thanks» -- Yes and no. It is called personification and, so, it is subjective. An example: somebody can fall in sympathy with a hen, and start using 'she' instead of 'it. So it comes out of attributing characteristics affine to human.

In Japan, we say "Itadakimasu" before eating dishes because all ingredients has life but we have to eat them for our life. Takoyaki is really delicious!
Thank you for BBC learning english team. I have been known octopus is kind of solitary sea animal in a sea and it tastes savoury from this episode. I never tested octopus. If it’s delicious, I would taste an octopus. I have a same idea with campaigners. They have described as farming octopus is ethically and ecologically unjustified.
It's recommended to avoid using the ending -s in Present Simple! For example, instead of "he talkS, she makeS, it meanS ..." it's better to say "he talk, she make, it mean ..." Because we use -s first of all as an indicator of PLURAL form for things and people (book-bookS, friend-friendS). At the same time "he, she, it" each of them refer to ONE person and that's why using -s for "he, she, it" look like absurd. We should say "he go, she love, it look..." like we do it for "we, you all, they" or like we say "he can, she must, it may" and not "he cans, she musts, it mays". The language have to develop and leave behind some old abundant rudiments.
Am glad in my country we have octopus everywhere, therefore periodically it is forbidden to catch them to them to reproduce. Am from mauritius, is my english correct?
«Am glad in my country we have octopus everywhere, therefore periodically it is forbidden to catch them to them to reproduce. Am from mauritius, is my english correct?» -- I am from Mauritius. (comes first, since it determines the context of what follows, and since it is not 'guess what ...') I am glad that we have plenty of octopuses in my country. (not everywhere since I bet they don't sleep under your bed, or in your fridge) There is a periodic ban on fishing them, to allow for their optimal reproduction. Was my English correct? (Better a slightly incorrect English than perfect brainless corrections out of 'machine learning' - that by mistakes we learn, though not too much of them; keep correcting ...).
Before asking for the ethicality of farming octopus which is a sentient creature, is it ethical that Britain objects the ceasefire in Gaza? Or the Palestinian people are not sentient?
Octopus is so tasty, but we always feel weird eating them because they're super intelligent beings Anyone else afraid that if there were an alien invasion, only the people who HAVE NEVER EATEN an octopus will be safe 🤣🤣🤣
Getting a chance for freedom, as occurred, was much more important for that octopus than staying with his possible long-living love:)) Typical man's behaviour!?!:))
«Is it OK to farm octopus when they have been shown to experience feelings?» -- Did they? Have been shown in what ways? There were psychoanalytic sessions? Could be they are going to farm them adding psychotropic drugs in the diet. I hope nobody's going to protest against those drugs, since it would not be fair towards humans overfed with the same drugs, in Our Brave World Of Farming Quiet Humans that get cross-consumed by the ways and by the means. I like improving my English with you, but I get upset by content imbued with subliminal woke-style proselytism that resorts to the technique of given-for-granted premises. We eat octopuses with a feeling of delicacy. They would it us, if they could, much much more, and regardless of our taste. Mosquitoes buzzing all around. They must have a feeling that brings them on my skin, and then they try to make a bloody union with me. Isn't this a sublime, and extreme, form of feeling? Octopuses explore whatever not represents a danger to them, but the humans, that are in need of (all you need is) love, interpret that as a feeling towards them.

But have you ever see a person who has taken Octopus before
If so, then, maybe we must not eat them! 🐙

It is ridiculous to label as ethical or unethical something that is a primary need for us. We need to eat, sorry about that!
Six Minute English is a practical podcast to improve listening skill.

larvae or larva🤔
👌👌👍👍👏
👏🏻
This a horrible idea. I agree with the activists opposing this idea. It is not okay to farm such animals.
Can someone summarize it for me?
There are thousands of edible plants! Leave the animals alone!
What Is the particular guilt of plants to say that?
Free plants!!!!! There are millions edible animals !!!! Leave plants alone!!!!!
Plants have a right to live.
Leave them alone 😂
To all the geniuses who replied: you should look up what 'sentience' is. Plants are not sentient beings.
So you have to Leave the plants alone first, aren't they creatures too?
I used to not care much about octopuses until I watched the documentary "My octopus teacher"
Hope this❤
No. Demand for it is not so high.

Japan eating octopuses ( alive ,not died).
