I definitely wish that the Philippines was more aggressive with infrastructure projects, as well as some other advancements, but these things take time, and I'm optimistic for the future here, as I see nothing but booming progress on the horizon. Despite the VERY FEW negatives I consider about living here, I absolutely LOVE the people, the atmosphere, the food, and the ease of cultural integration for English speaking foreigners.

Infrastructure improvement is always good, but there's a much cheaper way to boost PH economy... pick up the trash. Anyone ever think of traveling to India for a vacation? No, because India is world famous for the trash everywhere. Singapore had the same poverty issues as PH, India and other trash pile countries. Singapore turned it around by first addressing the filth issue. Pick up trash and severe laws and enforcement for dumping trash, public urination, loose dogs, etc.. And they backed up these laws with the infrastructure to handle trash, built restrooms and lots of security cameras and police to enforce a new lifestyle in Singapore. That helped bring in tourist and foreign investment because foreign company managers don't want to live in a trashed country.
PH certainly has the low labor costs to handle these basic things but not the will. Instead they implement criminal defamation law to stop anyone in PH from ever saying the emperor has no clothes.

I doubt it will improve that quickly as the political leaders of our is corrupt to the core. As long as Filipinos elect the same corrupt politicians year in year out changes will be slow. That is why the Political leaders rely on PPP program. The Subway project is one of them, the airport in Bulacan, the NAIA airport is also one of them. It means more people’s money in the pockets of the politicians and their cronies.

Ok here’s my take on Thailand and the Philippines. I just came back from three weeks in Thailand and one week in Danang Vietnam. I visit Thailand about three times a year. Thailand has almost everything over the Philippines infrastructure, public transportation, food, nicer housing and cheaper, nicer and cheaper hotels, did I say food let me repeat myself food. Cheaper and better internet, roads oh my god beautiful. BUT what they don’t have is the people, the beautiful and warm Filipinas. You like Thailand food? 🤮🤮🤮 Either you have a mouth used to burning your tongue with fire (which is why you like Thai food) or only having been exposed to beerhouse food (lowest kind) in the Philippines. Be at least with educated Filipinos so you could taste real Filipino food, not beerhouse food! My German husband who lived in Thailand for 25 years said the Philippines' food is way better than Thai food. It was because he has an educated Filipina wife who showed him real traditional Filipino food, I never drank alcoholic drinks or even smoked! Never went out to beerhouses. Thai food sucks 🤮🤮🤮 We consider it very boring and average. Japanese, Chinese, Korean are good choices of food aside from the Philippines. I suggest you stay away from beerhouses or nightclubs if you're looking for food tourism.

I do not at all doubt that the expat community in Thailand is considerably larger than that of the Philippines. But I think a distinction must be made between expats going there for retirement, adventure, or digital nomads (usually from the west) as opposed to expats from neighboring countries who are there to work or are economic/war refugees.
Latin American immigrants to the US for example are technically expats, but that's not really the kind of expat that we are talking about is it? Or is it?
That 4 million number, it seems, correct me if I'm wrong, includes the people from neighboring countries such as Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, China etc. Thailand is connected to the mainland while the Philippines has no land borders.
If we are only to consider the expats that would be typically found in expat bars (at least their countries), then that number is more like maybe 500,000. I suspect. That is still miles away from the Philippines.

regarding infrastructure issue. it is true that there is still much to develop.. but keep in mind that the Philippines is a place of many islands that are separated by the sea, so this is one reason why the transportation of infrastructure development materials is difficult,,
Another thing is that the Philippines experiences an average of 20 typhoons per year. Imagine the money that instead of being used to continuously improve the infrastructure, it goes to relief goods and rebuilding what was destroyed by the typhoon not just one year but year after year..
meanwhile. Thailand is lucky because it is a big landmass and there is no typhoon every year so the development of their country continues without disturbing natural calamities imagine that?
it's sad in the philippines because there are so many obstacles to development because the areas are scattered so development is slow. and then there are other corrupt officials who add to the problem..sad philippines

Thailand visitors are boosted by their border visitors from Malaysia and Vietnam and very accessible by land from China. That alone makes it cheaper to visit from high population countries. The visitors in the Philippines from countries that can afford to fly are very close as both S. korea and USA visitors are almost the same with Thailand slightly edging out the Philippines. Hi! Thats a very interesting post. I do understand and respect your thoughts, but at the same time I have the feeling that more and more thai people (especially the younger generations) open up for the "western style/culture" of life from europe/usa/canada/australia. I dont have the feeling that thai people are much interested in afrcian/muslim/indian style of life. But from my experience many thai people (as I said, mostly the younger generations) like the typical western style of life. Many thai people love the sports from western countries (e.g. Premier League or Bundesliga or LaLiga football) and the famous chart music from western countries. Even the beauty ideal of many thai people seems to be the western look (e.g. white skin). However, I do agree that the "older" generation of thai people might think exactly the way you described it in your post. Well, this is of course just my opinion. As a german christian I can just tell you that I love thailand and thai people. I love thai food too. I even like the religion of buddhism a lot. Your country is such a great country. You thai people can be very very proud of your country! Greetings from Germany to you!

@@anikalee9012 I want to say again what I said in my first post: I do respect your opinion for sure! You are a thai and in my opinion thailand belongs (mainly) to the thai people and only the thai people/thai government has the right to decide how many foreigners are allowed to move to/live in Thailand. Every country has this right! But on the other hand your comments sound to me like the "result" of what people call globalization. Its getting more and more normal that people move to other countries to live there. You can like globalization or you can dislike it. People from different countries have different cultures and life styles. Thats just normal. I personally think its "ok" up to a specific limit (means that e.g. thai people should of course still own their own country and decide about rules/laws etc etc in Thailand). I dont know if you are interested in international news? I tell you something about my country Germany to explain what I mean: Do you know Angela Merkel? She is the former chancellor of Germany. She made 2015 the political decision to allow millions of muslims and africans to flood into Germany. Between 2015 and now they flooded millions of muslims and africans into Germany. Its complete crazy! When you are visiting german cities now then you are sometimes thinking you are in Istanbul or Damascus or Accra. And the main problem of this kind of migration is that most of these muslims and africans are completely uncivilisated. These muslim arabs and africans have par example no respect for women. Before 2015 there were no group rapes existing in Germany, but since 2015 we have now approx 3 group rapes EVERY DAY in Germany (of course due to the behaviour and uncivilisated actions of the majority of these muslims). The criminal statistics (robbery, rape, stealing, stabbing people with knives etc etc etc) going through the roof since 2015. Germany was such a clean and safe country before but this complete crazy migration of muslims and africans into Germany changed this a lot. The threat of muslim terror attacks is also crazy now in Germany. And its just similar in other european countries like e.g. France, Sweden, UK. I could tell you much more about this crazy migration into europe (or the usa too). But I just mentioned it to show you that what you see in Thailand is mainly a "normal" part of globalization/migration. But what you can see here in europe is a complete different level of violence and criminal actions which you flood into your country if you allow millions of migration moves from deeply uncivilisated muslim or african countries into your country. You cannot compare the "migration situation" of Thailand with the crazy migration of muslims and africans into europe. Believe me, its complete different level here in europe and I would really love to accept the "normal" globalization problems which you describe if I could just get rid of these millions of completely uncivilisated muslims and africans in Germany and europe.

It has always been true that expats that stay in Thailand became tax residents if they are in Thailand more than 180 days. Federal pensions are not taxed. However, what has changed in 2024 is that money brought into Thailand (non-pension) is taxable. Exactly what will happen depends on dual tax treaties. We will know more in Jan-Mar, 2025 when people start filing tax returns.

It has been always the case. Comparison is moot. Philippines is always left behind in Asia due to rampant corruptions of majority of our elected officials. Majority of the funds for infrastructures goes to the Politicians pockets. It is a fact. A good example is the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant Project by the late dictator Marcos. During those time and current time the percentage of any project funds is 20% goes to the politicians pockets and their cronies. Just 80% goes to the project itself which makes the project substandard and not finished at all. Anyways live where you want to live and leave the Philippiines to us Filipinos and those foreigners who love to live in The Philippines, you are most welcome.

@@WatchCaliforniaExpat Those who are rejecting the expats are those expats who keep on whining and complaining and feeling entitled. When Filipinos move abroad they don[t make complaints about their host countries instead they integrate, while expats who moved here feel so entitled and want to change everything just so it suits them. That's the difference. Nothing wrong with wanting to have some good change but to constantly complain about many things and have a say on many things wears off the welcome Filipinos give to the expats. I mean like the locals say, if you don't like it here, why stay here when you can move to better places? Common sense! Philippines already has too much problems, the last thing we would like to hear are constant expat whiners adding more to the negativity. Locals can't be blamed. Filipinos will continue to be welcoming since that is in our DNA, but constant whiners will sure get a growing rejection to foreigners in general.

You will understand the difference if na try mo magpunta sa Lugar na sinasabi Niya. I've been to Thailand more than 5 times .Maganda talaga sa kanila ang transportansyon, the accomodations mas mura at Maganda almost hotels tourist destination may mga roof top swimming pool iyong ang gusto Ng mga tourista. Din mas mura at ang foods nila ay servely hot on your table Hindi Siya warm lang Kundi bagong ahon talaga. They also cook it in front of you. . then Da Nang same transport nila convenient ,pagkain nila talagang mainit Hindi Siya malamig . Ang nakakaganda lang sa ating is most Filipinos nakakaintindi Nang english , hospitable very smiling. Sa iba mabait Naman sila Kasi Wala Silang English Kong Meron man few only. Then sa stay mas okay sa pinas for foreigners Kasi pwedi sila extend till 3years . Sa Thailand paibaniba ang duration sa pwedi ka magstay. May 30days then extend tapos exit .then naiba Naman can stay for 45days yata din extend tapos exit the country.

Why do wealthy Filipinos travel to Thailand or Singapore for medical treatment? Life expectancy is 80 years in Thailand and only 72 years in the Philippines. There are many factors for this. Healthcare outside of cities in the Philippines is scarce and clinics are poorly staffed and underfunded. Transport can be an issue when getting to the larger populated areas for ailments that require regular treatment.
An unhealthy diet. A diet high in fat and sugar with an enormous dependency on refined rice, means that Filipinos suffer from much higher cases of heart disease and diabetes, and being a tropical country, the air is hot & humid which is the perfect environment for chest infections, particularly in the very crowded living areas of unofficial housing.

I've never heard any expat in PH ever say anything positive about PH other than a couple superficial clichés. "Filipinos are friendly." OK, but people say that about every single other country in the world. "Natural beauty." But there's almost no videos on the beauty. Basically I hear "waterfalls". OK, that's an afternoon. Endless remote beaches to explore but getting to these beaches means a long walk thru piles of trash and then lots of trash on the beach and floating in the water.
PH advertising itself to tourists would be a waste of money because all that would do is bring in a few more suckers who would show friends, family and the world how bad PH is to visit. PH has a very long reputation for being a country to avoid when vacationing. The tourist numbers always put PH at the bottom of SE Asia.
There is clearly only one major class of foreign visitor to PH... men looking for a Filipina. It's the OFW economic model in reverse. The men are thrilled chatting online because they're not seeing PH for what it is. Those who "move" there are thrilled when their Filipina picks them up at the airport. And thrilled for 2-3 years in a new relationship. Then for many reality comes. Filipinas are not actually magical creatures from another world. They're human females with all the same female instincts. They want want tall men and disrespect their local men for being too short. Sound familiar? It's just "tall" in PH means above 5' 5" so most foreign can get on that ride. They want men who can provide a better life via wealth. Sound familiar? But their wealth bar is lower so most foreign men can met that requirement. Once married or she is given land and a house many become the standard hypergamous human female. Then all the standard problems can appear and many foreign guys run for the hills.
I think the dude on this channel experienced this. Met a great Filipina, he set her up in businesses, and poof they're no longer together. He can't say the truth about what happened because he has investments in PH and PH has a serious criminal defamation law. If you say anything a Filipino doesn't want to hear you could end up in prison and/or deported. So yeah, you freaking better say Filipinos are friendly.

We are divorced, but she worked her ass off and still does with two of the businesses we started over here together. I don't take any credit for all of her hard work. I didn't give her anything. She had a lot in the bank when I met her that also came from her hard work before I met her. We worked as partners and though we weren't right for marriage, our working relationship was fine and I'll always appreciate that about her.
I also have plenty of videos where I mention things I think are strange or I don't like about the Philippines such as the food, how inefficient things are, lack of infrastructure, etc. Though I'm also transparent that there's nowhere else I'd rather live because I feel at home here and love the people--even if I've also been scammed and had negative experiences here. Nowhere is perfect for sure, but the Philippines is perfect for me.

4:36 got to say is that in thailand prostitution is legal but in philippines kind a illegal if caught there is huge punishment but of course when it comes to business thailand is pretty much open but in philippines its kind a hard cause the corruption is still the biggest enemy of most filipinos especially now when duterte supported the marcus family the macus family backstab duterte they usually ignore most of duterte projects and now in davao alot of duterte projects are stop by the marcus family and now drugs seams to increase in rural area and in the squatters area

Yes, some projects have been halted, but not due to the new administration. During Duterte's time, the Philippines lost significant resources, partly due to necessary expenses like those during the pandemic, which some officials reportedly exploited and partly due to corruption scandals under the former administration. High-profile cases, such as the Pharmally controversy, the PhilHealth scandal, infrastructure contracts awarded without proper bidding to contractors connected to Bong Go, and large allocations of confidential funds, reflect the extent of these issues. These major corruption cases resulted in substantial losses for the country. The new administration isn’t ignoring these infrastructure projects, but funding challenges have affected their continuation.

Like one comment said here, Philippines and Filipinos by itself will survive with or without the expats. Maybe for the better anyway that there will be less expats in the Philippines since locals are starting to get thrown out of their local standards , more expensive for them to live and eat, Philippines becoming way too gentrified without too much gain for the locals themselves.
It is like a blessing and a curse that foreigners suddenly started swamping the Philippines bc it started losing its “natural charm” eversince tourists started arriving in loads of number. Places became more fixated on “what foreign rates should be” and local investors pushed themselves to become greedy bc they know foreigners will be able to afford even if they make the local prices 2x higher than a local person can afford.
Take it or leave it and maybe when you guys leave, maybe the prices for Filipinos will be semi-affordable again.
Complain all you want there are other doors open for you.. we were surviving before you guys flocked in here and you knew that the true Philippines charm was what made you want to be here from the first place…. Just got ruined more since it became too popularized bc of word of mouth from you and social medias.
    Again to each their own.
