    Love how you cut up the truck instead of just pulling off the shifter assembly. Great engineering. Can't wait to see how the other truck on the crown vic front end turns out.

    I did this same swap on my '78 GMC. Three speed on the column to the TKO floor shift. It's a great trans. I see you have a video on making a shifter, I ended up just moving mine to the center plate on the transmission.

    Just a suggestion.. Instead of spending 150 on a bench seat shifter.. You could take a piece of metal, like a 4" by 4" and drill holes and move your shifter up far enough to have it drivable. I'm sure by now you're already putting your bucket seats in but hey. Just a suggestion. Love your work man

    • @kenrinck4916
      @kenrinck4916 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ashton Lawson That's the same thing I was going to suggest. I hope he reads this one. There should be something in his scrap metal pile that he could do that with. It would mean 2 more nuts and bolts, but it would be temporary. Have a good day.

  • @TheFrameoff

    does the threaded rod screw in to the piece that engages the shifter fork . Iam liking the 5 speed idea should go good to my cleveland

  • @jerrymarkel1523
    @jerrymarkel1523 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The cone that goes against the shift Fork where the adjustment nuts are you should try to find one that's threaded it's like 77 to 79 pickups had them. I had one come apart one night and lost the end had to drive home with no clutch.

  • @DumbJeepBoy
    @DumbJeepBoy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    this is just a thought, but id recommend that you put some sort of a pedal stop in for your clutch so you dont push it too much past the end point on the pivot

  • @fireman1294
    @fireman1294 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Make an adapter bracket with a 30 degree bend in it. Just big enough to bolt to the shifter base and the linkage rod. This is a temp fix and when you go to your buckets you simply remove that bracket and bolt the shifter back to where you have it.

  • @chrisoneill4211

    5 engines later and he still owns it

  • @calvinhandley2373
    @calvinhandley2373 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    From what I've seen you have the welding and fab skills to alter that shifter to fit. Just a matter of cutting the shift lever and welding in a curved piece. On the other hand you already have the bucket seats. You could just go ahead and put the buckets in.
    In any case congratulations on solving the problem with the clutch linkage instead of doing the cable or hydraulic route that you didn't want.

  • @t-n-tdigger5384
    @t-n-tdigger5384 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cant you cut a groove into the bench seat to give the shifter more room until you get the frames on the other seats and install them? I dont know if you are looking to sell the bench but it seems a quick temp fix. Awesome video. Thanks for sharing.

  • @peterpower0495

    Just a fore warning about the clutch fork, I recommend putting a return spring going from the engine cross member to the clutch fork. Because as you drive and everything breaks in. Your clutch rod may start rattling against the fork. Mine did after I finished my engine swap. just my two cents so you don't start chasing a noise around like me.

  • @quietmale00101
    @quietmale00101 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    you could go to a weld or machine shop with the existing shiftier and tell them your problem and have them build (plasma cut) a shiftier that will go around the bench seat im sure they have a 1/4 drop plate they can use

  • @SkateSurfSnowFly

  • @keithw372

  • @zachariahlow6872
    @zachariahlow6872 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can install the shifter you have 180° from where it is now. There are 2 shift cups in there about 3-4 in apart.

  • @Petrol360
    @Petrol360 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Once you get driving if the clutch pedal is still to heavy and short of a throw you can mobe the rod further down the shift fork away from the transmission. This will gove less throw for the clutch (or a longer pedal push to the floor) it will also make the clutch lighter in doing so. Might make it a bit easier to daily drive. Glad it worked out! Make sure to all jam nuts and locktight to the all thread!!

    I have a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 2 door Fastback and it's a 3 spd on the column, but I'm converting in over to a C4 auto. question: what is the year range of a C4 Auto that I can use on my car just by bolting it right up to the car without a adapter plate needed?

    why buy another shifter just heat and bend the one you have :) been there done that with a 1965 chevy 5 speed
    lock the handel in a vice and heat just above the bilt point itll be trial and error so bend a little at a time til its forward then you just need to go up a little higher and bend it back

    Don't buy another shifter, just get ahold of some 1/2" plate steel make it 2-3" long and bolt plate to bracket and shifter moving it forward. Put a boot cover over it and no one will notice. Once you get your buckets set-up, remove the steel plate.
