For me these habits were fundamental to living a simpler, happier life: 🌸 reducing impulse buys 🌸 having a reset mode weekly 🌸 embracing my flaws and also the flaws of my loved ones
My most helpful minimalist habit is probably the one that is hardest for a lot of people: I quit social media. Absolutely no regrets. Living my life in the moment, no comparison traps, no mindless browsing or buying. We only get one life and I am living mine in the real world, not online. It's great and I am a debt free, calm, happy minimalist :)
Same here, I also quit social media and it's one of the best thing I've done for myself. I am more present in the moment and don't "live" in my screen anymore :) I've got more time for reading and meditation. :)
Hi Amber, I would love to do that myself, but especially during lockdown and anyway uncertain times with little to no travelling (I think) I would feel way to lonely as a single mum... But this is on my list for try out once I have (re) established more friendships in real life and via phone. - Happy to read your comment. It is very inspiring.
Michelle, you are absolutely wonderful! I've been with people who let their phones and television/videos override any conversation. To me, that's a destructive relationship I don't need. I avoid them.
1. I stopped all the impulse purchasing, due to this I saved lots of money. I am become more organized about home stuff and work. It improves lifestyle.
I stopped impulse buying by using that time for fitness activities - kickboxing, cardio, walks, etc. Used to spend hours in the mall but now I'm in great shape!
I’m always decluttering ,anything in the house that isn’t used or wanted goes…either resold or to charity. I always say to myself “I can’t take it with me when I die,so it’s better to pass it on”. I prefer to be doing things rather than having things. 😊🇬🇧
Shoppinglists are sooooo helpful😅, I like your view on watching beautiful windows in shops as a museum. Some shops really put a lot of care in it and are just a little piece of art.
Hi Vera, hope you are well! I have got better at saying 'No' to things I don't want, or to events I don't want to attend. If people get offended, that's their issue. I've spent 45 years being a people pleaser and am fed up of being that way. Have a great Sunday! x
I didn’t fall in the “ TRAP “ of social media .... I have not been interested in any of them . I guess that has to do with the fact that I am a private person . Like you , I try to live a simple life without too much clutter.
I love how you explained window shopping as if its a museum. I went window shopping yesterday in this state of mind and it was so enjoyable :) Especially compared to how I used to be which was to feel that "FOMO". Also, yes for wish lists!! I've added to the title of my Wishlist "Do I really need this?" this really helps me reconsider and most of the time I end up deleting the item later when I realize I don't really need it. You are continually one of my favorite YT channels. Thank you for all of the time and dedication you put into this channel!
I started to be a fan of a boy group since the pandemic and knowing they have a lot of merchandise we can purchase, I practiced critical thinking of whether this item can be used most of the time or it's just out of jealousy or excitement. I can relate when you said that there is a deeper meaning to why we buy things - and it is usually for me, out of insecurity. Thanks for another great video Vera, stay safe!
Similar to your museum analogy, I've recently come to the conclusion that just because I like something doesn't mean I have to own it. If I like a great piece of music, I can listen to it on TH-cam. If I like a great print, I can admire at it online. If one day these things disappear from their usual haunts, THEN I can think about whether there would be any value in purchasing them. It's always easier to buy stuff than to clear it out after.
I like your take on intentionally limiting your access via technology. It's so easy to let social media and such take up disproportionate amounts of time and space in our heads and lives. While it definitely can have a positive place - after all, I wouldn't have heard of this channel without it! - it can (and does) also manipulate us in a less positive way, playing with peoples emotions in a frightening way at times. Russell Brand, of whom I'm a great fan, has a great quote about technology in general, which is that "everyone will need a conscious plan around tech or risk having their consciousness blended with the dominant agenda."
Thank you so much for sharing Suzy, I agree :) It really depends on how we use it in our life, and in order to be intentional with it, we do need to think about it and make a plan.
I don't go shopping for fun, I just buy what I need when I need it and that has helped me a lot 😊 great Video Vera, I always learn a lot from you 😁 I wish you a great weekend
I've done some decluttering of my wardrobe and items. My expenses are "need" only, and my food is always minimal to what I'm planning a meal for. Thanks again Vera. Happy journeys through your help and videos of Minimalism.
Through my minimalism journey I have learned to easisly and simply put things back on the shelf in a shop or supermarket and doing that I pay close attention to my gut feeling: If I am relieved and sigh, when it is no longer in my hands, this item will be left behind for someone else to buy it. But if I feel unhappy and feel a sad glance on my face, I will take it back and think deeply whether I do need and like it. - This summer for example I have bought two midlength dresses that fit and suit me perfectly for great bargains - one at Aldi and one at Lidl. - I did know that I needed a couple of dresses in the back of my head. Another minimalism rule that I live by is making yure to take stock in my own home, so that for example the next dress I see at a supermarket, which might fit me, will stay there, because my wardrobe has reached the "100%" mark of dress stock up. - No matter what. - Same goes for books to read, which I by habit, I now only get from our local library or rebuy if it isn't available for rent. What concerns savings, you made me smile broadly, Vera, because I had some agitated discussions with my brother who could not believe that I would not automatically spent much more money in my everyday life just because all of I sudden I could (have). When I calmly told him again and again that I just "knew" the price of my life and that this had not been effected at all by my next career step. Why would I all of a sudden need more just because I had a new job title? I must admit that I had been living on social benefits for a longer period of time and I the had constantly been complaining how I struggled to make ends meet. And that this amount just wasn't enough! - When everyone told me that if you have little, you must make do with little, which is true. But I kept insisting how I knew the price of my life and this just wasn't enough. - I did manage no worries and I didn't accumulate debts, but it turns out I was right: I know the expenses (better word, sin't it) of my life. First I had to little, then it was just enough and for some time now I have "accidentally" been able to save quite a lot. - So this concept of a direct and strict correlation bewteen income and expense is completely not for me. ;-) So what had been a very often taerful struggle for years now has turned out to be a blessing. I know that I do earn much more than I need, and that goes into my savings.
I think I’m getting better at the first habit you mentioned, asking myself with each purchase, “why do I want this?”. I have bought so many things in the past just because I wanted to go shopping to really avoid some things I didn’t want to do and was trying to avoid that day, afterwards I would feel anxious because these things were still hanging over my head and my to do list would grow and I became even more frustrated, a mad cycle. Asking ourselves questions and examining ourselves is really important. I love going deeper, great video content Vera! 💗
Hi Vera!🙋♀️💞 It's always such a sweet delight to begin my day with your video...thank you very much!! Now on my 8th day post surgery...taking things slow but towards strengthening. ...imperfect home...this is what i have. But i stay mindful of my goal all the time. That is to one day see each area of my place as minimal/functional and happier!! Stay beautiful Vera! Take care. 🌷🌷🌷
I’ve loved your insights & tips for several years now, Vera ! As well as your lovely, sweet, calming demeanor. You are so thoughtful, eloquent and intentional ! AND , you inspire me !! Thank you ! Love from Liz in Buffalo, NY USA
Wow Vera, this video is priceless. I realized through watching this, pausing and thinking about it, I had been saying no to certain items. But on a deeper note I had been saying no to my dreams and fantasies. I have been denying an important aspect of myself, probably something that happened during childhood and had I had inadvertently been settling in my life and denying myself the freedom to dream and believe. It is much deeper than things or possesions. I am the type of person who is creative and a dreamer someone who deeply wants to love and be loved and that is a huge part of me. To deny myself of that is to not embrace who I truly am. This is also great questions to ask, probably the best advice I've heard. What a great way to not just declutter but to learn and discover and heal yourself more deeply. I would love to see another video about self care, loving yourself or dating yourself. I want to try to love myself more deeply but I find I always neglect my own needs and i feel needy around my husband for his love. I feel like you emanate so many characteristics I would love to have. Id love to be more caring for myself like you and kind to myself and others.
Also curious. How to keep a phone or computer minimal? I find a need to have certain apps. But I really hate having so much. I find it just feels stressful to me. I'm thinking about getting a new phone because I desperately need one but I'm afraid of how many apps will be on it I can't delete so I've been putting it off...
Vera, thank you for another session on a simpler life, adn some really good questions to ask when you are planning to buy or to keep things that used to have a value. Another aspect I try follow is to reuse/fix/ mend old things that has a certain 'patina' ...like an old jacket, or lether bag, or book, .......perhaps not always in 100% finnish , but an 'old friend' that can be reused.
Hi Vera great tips thank you 😊 having less certainly helps me focus on what things and people are important in my life! My best habit for helping with minimalism is practising meditation it helps so much with stress and sleep as well as awareness in general ❤️
Yes, I totally relate. Perfection DOES NOT EXIST, PERIOD. I've had and probably will have problem with perfectionism, comparing my minimalism with the status quo, and I try my best to remind myself every day that nobody, nothing is perfect.
Great tips, as always. I feel like I need to take more time between wanting something and buying it. And ask why, and really why. I hate the anxiety of spending money on something I don't need and then have to find a place for it in my life. It's something that I want but.. maybe I rather keep my money.
Lists, Lists, Lists!! Also consciously not buying something just because it is on sale. I used to be a sucker for a bargain but shifted my mindset to say "It's not a bargain if you rarely use/wear it and it just takes up space, reminding you what a sucker you were!"
A rather exotic habit of mine: I am maintaining an inventory Excel spreadsheet about the stuff I own and defined an ideal number for every entry. For example, the ideal number of winter jackets to own is one in my opinion, so I own exactly one. I also take a short categorial note, why I own each particular item ("winter clothing"). I know this sounds tedious, but I am a little crazy about creating lists and counting things.
What a great video! A lot of your tips are very helpful as always. I find "save before you spend" great, it has been a great improvement to my finances. The Covid pandemic has also helped me to realise I have enough clothes in my closet. I focus on good quality basics that I can mix and match and don't care that much about being in fashion. It saves me a lot of money and time! :)
Lists! Only shopping with a list and keeping an ongoing wish list have been life changing when it comes to buying for me. It has been so interesting to realize that after items sit on my wish list for days or weeks I take almost everything off before ever buying it!
Love this - you always provide such great content! I especially appreciate that your Skillshare section features content creators of colour. Thank you for your inclusive action.
For me it’s about looking at my possessions and asking myself do I still have a need for this? The next thing I’m thinking about selling is my parents china they gave to me. It has sentimental value but I never use it. I have space for it but that might be the next thing to go. 🌸
Thank you for sharing Tina, I like that tip! I also agree with Connie, it can be really nice to take a few pictures before letting go of sentimental items. Take care and have a lovely day!
Well, I am reading this without wearing any underwear! Instead loose, lightweight shirt and pants. I had some skin spots removed on my back and neck so it itches and rubs if clothing touches them. I find I have adjusted to not going out shopping very often during Covid and now I'm much more uncomfortable if I try to run out and impulse buy. I stick to my list and try to go a couple of weeks between shopping.
Thank you Joanne! I don't have a detailed video about the budgets, but I do talk a bit more about how to stop spending money on things you don't need in this video: th-cam.com/video/mVIj9IWvHOs/w-d-xo.html
Personally I find I'm good at becoming more and more minimalist because I really enjoy it and I enjoy the process. There are things I'd like to be better at eg. turning off notifications on my phone and not multi tasking so much. I also find meditation helps me with minimalism too. It brings me more into the present moment and I'm more calmer. Ps. I hope you enjoy your journey into photography and that it inspires you as much as you inspire all of us.
Hi Vera.. How are you ? I always trying to balance everything means in family everybody should happy on that decision or any required items. Now a days during this pandemic situation we already learnt how to adjust life and also lifestyle.. How many dresses we have, how many kitchen items are there etc. Is it actually required or as you said.. insucurity... Meditation, simple living, less stuff, quality food, tea.coffee .. these also gives us satisfaction.. Very nice video 🎉🎉 enjoy moments
Your comment about the guitar ! Yes ! I have 1 that I’m going to take to a music shop & sell !! I decided to a while ago. My friends would probably cringe ( or cry?) at this news ! I’ve played for decades ... But this particular one is not great quality ( I’ve had others over the years, too. I have not played it in a year & 1/2 ! Time 4 it to GO ! Plus I’ll be moving in near future. Later when I’m settled in, perhaps I’ll buy a new & better guitar ! IF I truly want to start playing again ! I still do have a keyboard ( & sheet music) which I’m keeping ... although yikes ... haven’t played it recently either. Been playing piano since age 3 & guitar since age 12 ( even semi professionally @ xs). But life changes ... seasons change. It feels absolutely right to sell this guitar ( the only 1 I currently have). Been procrastinating, but itz on my list, & your mention here of just that, has prompted me to get it done !
Say no to pants! 😂 2020 did convert me to wearing more cozy dresses. I think a lot of people have had a change of heart when it comes to clothing. Why is this here? is the habit that has made me better at minimalism.
Hello Vera there is a science behind impulse buys marketing companies have invested large amounts of money into studying this. It’s from times when there was scarcity. People always stocked up that’s not the case todayActually today there is so much there is literally an over abundance of things. Businesses maintain profit margin’s by selling mass produce things. Manufacturers marketing companies have known since the 1950s everything has an expectant life rate usually It’s between one and three years. This is why I often tell people to research different brands always as a rule pick the one that is between the highest and lowest price that way they tend to get a little bit more for their money than they thought they would. Limit choices between 3-5 brands this cuts out decision fatigue it’s a real thing. I also say if a person should buy a gift for anyone cater it to that person get to know them and some of the things they like and then purchase as wisely as possible As a good rule of thumb it is always wise to go into a store and set a time limit of 25 to 30 minutes that way impulse buys are cut a lot Thank you for let me share it’s good to see you this week and I hope that you are doing well
Thanks so much for sharing Bill! I like the tip about going shopping with a timer. As well as getting to know the person if you're gifting them something. Make sure you're gifting something that théy like, instead of something that you like yourself :)
You look very much like a dear friend I had growing up, Sharon. She had hair similar to yours except it was extremely long (past her butt) and everyone at our school thought she was so nice and pretty! Just thought I would share since you look so much like her, haha.
Shop from a guideline that lists what exactly I want (and what I don't want) and only spending what I can afford to pay without using a credit card or can pay off immediately. ... Write down in a daybook every regular expense and every extra purchase I make. Be accountable for what I own and where my money goes.
@@SimpleHappyZen Thanks for asking! Believe it or not, I have listed almost everything item by item. I've been working on it for quite a little while over several fluctuations, but I went room by room, shelf by shelf, drawer by drawer. It's an empowering feeling to know how much I have.
Life isn’t perfect , we aren’t perfect , so , we can’t expect our homes to be “ Magazine Perfect “ 100 % of the time ! And we shouldn’t compete with anybody …..
For me it's one in other out .But I wonder sometimes with color and style of product.Till I don't find the product's style I am searching for as per my comfort ,I don't buy it and this waiting time makes me think of the product a lot .How to overcome with this thought. Please make a video on this.
@@SimpleHappyZen i found yr video from a yrar ago on 10 steps for a möte intentional living. I Think that theme could be repeated/expamded/elaborated many times.!!! We all need it!!
Before I buy something new I think if there is actually some place for it at my home. If not it probably doesn't fit my lifestyle and it is more likely just a temporary craving.
Hi Daria, that's so weird! It's supposed to have video :) Could you maybe check again? This is the first time I heard it.. Thank you for listening as a podcast anyway :)
🤔Why would anyone sign up for Skillshare when they refuse to put their prices and contact information in their website. Requiring an email and name before disclosing these makes people uncomfortable.
As a person with big collectors tendencies, I find using the library is a great resource for books or movies that I otherwise would have purchased. If I really enjoyed something, I can always borrow it again and others can enjoy when I am not using it.
Thank you Victoria! I never whiten them and I don't use whitening toothpaste or anything. I just try to take care of them well. Brushing well, flossing, things like that. Also, I always make sure to swirl a bit of water around in my mouth after eating or drinking something, especially with things that can stain your teeth like coffee or fruit.
What about you? 🤗 Which habits have been helpful for you in living a simpler life?
For me it's perspective, short term desires versus day to day satisfaction.
Decluttering..
Mental conditioning: practicing contentment daily. It stops me from any impulse buying and helps me make rational decisions.
Saving money
For me these habits were fundamental to living a simpler, happier life:
🌸 reducing impulse buys
🌸 having a reset mode weekly
🌸 embracing my flaws and also the flaws of my loved ones

Same here I quit social media and even though it was hard it was a better life for me! Being more present with my husband and kids which is priceless
I did the same and have no regrets as well
Same here, I also quit social media and it's one of the best thing I've done for myself. I am more present in the moment and don't "live" in my screen anymore :) I've got more time for reading and meditation. :)
Same here!! The only “media” I consume are new videos from this channel.

Hey beautiful lady?
Shoppinglists are sooooo helpful😅, I like your view on watching beautiful windows in shops as a museum. Some shops really put a lot of care in it and are just a little piece of art.

I love that!!! :) Thanks and you have a great Sunday too!
No.1. To make room for being intentional: take a break to count to five, to calm down, decision making without hurry 👍
Great one :) Thanks Lucia
Simple, but I'm definitely gonna try this ☺️
The act of thinking twice or maybe 3 times before I buy things.
Very important :) Thank you!
Great video, I’m sick of buying clothes that I love at first and then realise I don’t like at all !
Yeah, that's very annoying :) Thanks Lynby!
Great tips! I appreciate the one about not striving to always have a perfect home.
Thank you Angela :) Have a lovely day and take care!

I’ve started the no spend or low spend - I’m getting through items in the larder and freezer and writing lists for low spend day to day food items
Good going Bessie, lots of luck with your low spend goals!

Well said :) Thanks Rojan
Great tips, as always. I feel like I need to take more time between wanting something and buying it. And ask why, and really why.
I hate the anxiety of spending money on something I don't need and then have to find a place for it in my life. It's something that I want but.. maybe I rather keep my money.
Great video and very useful tips. Have a great weekend Vera! ♥️
Thank you so much Kimberly, that's great to hear :) You have a wonderful rest of weekend too!
Lists, Lists, Lists!! Also consciously not buying something just because it is on sale. I used to be a sucker for a bargain but shifted my mindset to say "It's not a bargain if you rarely use/wear it and it just takes up space, reminding you what a sucker you were!"
I agree I don't think we should settle when the item is not exactly what we want or need :)
To appreciate what I have. My health husband and family. Thanks Vera as always great ideas and tips.❤
That's so wonderful :)
Just a reminder that «You are incredible, and your light is needed in the world» ✨
Do I really need this? Why? And that usually stops me buying unnecessarily. Great tips Vera thanks for sharing ♥️
Thank you so much Deborah! :) Have a great day
@@SimpleHappyZen you too Vera 🌺
Wow! I never thought of asking those questions. The best advice I've heard. Thanks so much
A rather exotic habit of mine: I am maintaining an inventory Excel spreadsheet about the stuff I own and defined an ideal number for every entry.
Love that, thanks for sharing Marine :)
thanx for your tips. have a nice and sunny weekend🍀☀️🙏🤗
Thank you so much Cassy, you too!! :)
Lists! Only shopping with a list and keeping an ongoing wish list have been life changing when it comes to buying for me. It has been so interesting to realize that after items sit on my wish list for days or weeks I take almost everything off before ever buying it!
Yes!! :) Love that.
Wants of today forgotten tomorrow. --- from the book The Richest Man In Babylon.
So true! I did a lot of buying because of low self esteem!
Last one is really interesting taking charge of our attention 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
That's true minimalism: filming without pants 😂🙌
Lol only what you need
lol
😂
Great video, very helpful. A side note, your curly hair is super cute on you.😊
Aw thank you so much Pam :) I'm very happy I found out I have wavy hair and how to keep it natural :)
China is a difficult decision. If you decided to part with it, maybe take some nice photos to remember it by.
Thank you for sharing Tina, I like that tip! I also agree with Connie, it can be really nice to take a few pictures before letting go of sentimental items. Take care and have a lovely day!
Maybe keep one or two pieces.
Love the spend and save part. Is there a more detailed video about that? And your monthly budget journal looks cute
Thank you Joanne! I don't have a detailed video about the budgets, but I do talk a bit more about how to stop spending money on things you don't need in this video: th-cam.com/video/mVIj9IWvHOs/w-d-xo.html
Loving "make a list of everything you want this item to do / be". How many things reveal themselves to be totally unnecessary!
Yep 😄
I listened to the first 2.47 with intention, now I just want a cookie. 😳 Hi Vera. 😀
Hahaha 😂 I always want a cookie
Decluttering my wardrobe ,cleaning the house . .
Number 5 is my problem 😓 really always want to improve my home to look more pretty by changing colors , pieces , carpets and more decor items 🤷♀️
It's a process :)
Hahahahah! "Soooo, I'm just not wearing any pants." This raw transparency is why I love your channel. Thanks for keeping it real :)
Haha thank you Ashley 😄🤗
I feel v calm and peace after seeing u pls make video how to develop good habits like quit sweet tea fastly means immediately implement on it
Lovely comment, thank you for sharing your thoughts! :) Have a great day
Thank you for the honest video
You're very welcome :) Have a lovely day!
These tips are so helpful thank you
Thank you so much, that's nice to hear :)
That's very brave :) Thanks so much for sharing and good lukc with the move!
LOVE this video 💖🙏🏼 thank you sister

Say no to pants! 😂 2020 did convert me to wearing more cozy dresses. I think a lot of people have had a change of heart when it comes to clothing.
Why is this here? is the habit that has made me better at minimalism.
Hahaha yes I get what you mean about pants :)
Thank you ❤️
You're welcome, happy monday!
Great tips
Thank you! :)
Great video! Thanks!
Thanks Henrik, have a great day!
I also say if a person should buy a gift for anyone cater it to that person get to know them and some of the things they like and then purchase as wisely as possible
As a good rule of thumb it is always wise to go into a store and set a time limit of 25 to 30 minutes that way impulse buys are cut a lot
Thank you for let me share it’s good to see you this week and I hope that you are doing well
Thanks so much for sharing Bill!
Aw that's so sweet :) Thank you for sharing!
she says do one thing at a time while i play 2 games and listen to her. I might need to do that. lol
Shop from a guideline that lists what exactly I want (and what I don't want) and only spending what I can afford to pay without using a credit card or can pay off immediately. ... Write down in a daybook every regular expense and every extra purchase I make. Be accountable for what I own and where my money goes.
Sounds very responsible :) How's it going with mapping your items? :)
@@SimpleHappyZen Thanks for asking! Believe it or not, I have listed almost everything item by item. I've been working on it for quite a little while over several fluctuations, but I went room by room, shelf by shelf, drawer by drawer. It's an empowering feeling to know how much I have.
Hey beautiful lady?
Life isn’t perfect , we aren’t perfect , so , we can’t expect our homes to be “ Magazine Perfect “ 100 % of the time !
And we shouldn’t compete with anybody …..
Exactly! :)
Good video! Thank you
Thank you! :) Take care and have a lovely day
Brilliant 🌻
Aw thank you Penny :) Have a nice day!
It's a nice video! I love you.
For me it's one in other out .But I wonder sometimes with color and style of product.Till I don't find the product's style I am searching for as per my comfort ,I don't buy it and this waiting time makes me think of the product a lot .How to overcome with this thought. Please make a video on this.
im trying to be a better minimalism...
Intentional living ...you mention that sometimes....Have you done a video on that , if not I would like to put that on my 'wish list'! 🎁
I can't believe I haven't made more about them haha :)
@@SimpleHappyZen i found yr video from a yrar ago on 10 steps for a möte intentional living.
I Think that theme could be repeated/expamded/elaborated many times.!!! We all need it!!
leuke video weer :) . leuke vlecht heb je in
Aw dankjewel Naomi!! :)
Vera thank you so much this was exceptional ✅❤️💝I have learnt a lot from you & loved the picture inserts lol from a sub in Israel 🇮🇱 💖❤️💐
Aw thank you so much Sharon, that's so sweet of you to say :) Have a great day!
I want to live simple but here in the philippines I dont have alot of place for my things to go to... i do online selling though but not enough
Before I buy something new I think if there is actually some place for it at my home. If not it probably doesn't fit my lifestyle and it is more likely just a temporary craving.
Very good :)
⚖️🥰 Thank You 💗
You're very welcome Anastasija, have a nice day!
Hi Vera, not sure if this is me, but this video is all black?… Still very good so I listened to it as a podcast.
I think the yearly subscription is worth like $10/month 🤷♀️🤔
At least that's what I heard anyway
@@priscillajimenez27 that's the problem though. Until you sign up for their emails they won't tell you.

Hye Beautiful Friend 😊 Awsome Good Job 👍
As a person with big collectors tendencies, I find using the library is a great resource for books or movies that I otherwise would have purchased. If I really enjoyed something, I can always borrow it again and others can enjoy when I am not using it.

Random but how do you keep your teeth so white?! 😱
@@SimpleHappyZen Thanks, that is a great tip!
You are so damn beautiful!!!
