Oh, I so wish I could come to MM this year. My wife Erlinda and I happened to see Kahiko night on TV on Oahu in 2002 and fell in love with hula. Within two months after we got back to California, she had joined a halau as a kupuna. We came to Hilo to see MM most years since even if we did not get tickets in the draw. Unfortunately, she died in 2017, and I have not been back since. Nonetheless, I must say mahalo nui loa to Luana, Cathy, all the volunteers, and, of course, the halaus and their kumus and the musicians who make the Merrie Monarch such a wonderful event.
I love the art of this dance it is so beautiful and so soulful🌺
Shouting, again from the Continental East Coast, Merrie Monarch, das why!!!🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾☂️🌞🍍🌺🌴🌈
