Thank you so much, Ben, for this precious insightfull advice, it had made a great job within me! 🙏 David
Thank you for this sincere gift of sharing your insights. Your video moves me to share the four R's of consciousness:
Recognition, revelation, remembrance, realization; (not necessarily in that order). We - this shared self-definition - has only realized - made real as identity - that which the functional ego assumes as Obvious. A hall of mirrors, a play of illusion...It's a great, even terrible game. We have all the time in the world...
50 years of meditation later and I can say this. Your monkey mind can't be turned off. That's not the point of meditating anyway. The point is to expand your experience of yourself to be greater than those thoughts. Once you see yourself as the observer that gives you a reason to visit that 'place' every day. This is a playground. See it that way and manifest to your heart's content.
I'd add that it can be in incredible tool to strengthen frontal lobe which will help with addictions and impulse control, better cognitive decision making, better internal awareness and getting to know our inner world in terms of not only thoughts, but also emotions, parts and spiritual aspects. Increased attention, focus, and cognitive processing. Increased detachment. Reduced amygdala and fear response. Increased comfort with boredom and less stimulating experiences. I think the biggest point is to not overdo it and rather do it consistently for 20 minutes a day to hit that golden ratio with least amount of side effects, with the most amount of benefits.
Well, way less years of meditation and I turn off the damn monkey. Turn it off and you'll travel in space. You just need the right techniques. For instance start to not think as a western.
is it possible to manifest ideas? like business ideas
Great comment, thanks for posting; I love that mantra, and spiritual awakening in meditation- manifest, if it’s to be a ‘joyful’ outcome- for all. Aroha, love from NZ.
Thanks for deleting my comment. Very meditative.
My meditations are mainly ‘thank you’ to my spirit guides for guiding me and for the good health of my children and grandchildren. I am full of thank yous. My life is so blessed.
So are the parents of sick children not saying 'thankyou' hard enough to be blessed like you...I to feel gratitude for a lot but there's danger in that doctrine as it's a sentence of guilt on those who encounter misfortune.
@randybackgammon890 You don't know what challenges this person is experiencing. We are capable of expressing gratitude for the blessings in our lives without ignoring the difficult aspects. Why are you criticising someone expressing gratitude?
Did you know that you can go to Heaven for free? This one decision can change your life and eternity forever. You've heard that Jesus Christ died and rose from the dead - it means He paid the price for your sins by shedding His Blood so you can be forgiven, saved and have a personal relationship with your Creator. Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. Sin is a condition where you're separated from God. Jesus cancelled sin. All you have to do is be willing in your mind to have your life and heart changed, believe in your heart (know for sure not just hope) that Jesus rose from the dead for you. External fruit such as following Jesus and seeking Him daily will be natural as a result of your internal change and beliefs. Watch how the Holy Spirit moves in your life.. :) much love and God bless you!!
For me doing moving meditation is my main form of meditation .
Doing Tai Chi as a moving meditation helped me to increase myChi energy.
It's easy to keep my mind quiet while I'm moving and breathing.
When life has beaten every goal out of you, when u finally give up, have lost every shred of hope then god enters. When u are finally nothing you find that you are also everything.
...and everything is you. There is no separation, no dualism. "God" is experiencing through you and you through God.
I'll give you my 30 years. I am 48.
It ain't about experiences or acquiring mental prowess.
This Earth is a bridge, we don't build permanent structures on a bridge.
It is one small place on a long journey - focus on the unseen.
'Even a little bit of this Dharma will save thousands of lifetimes.' -- Bhagavad Gita.
You think there is another life after this?
Earth ain't no bridge. If anything it's an island.
@@johnnyxmusic Not "after"... but now.

Exactly!
I reached an empty space after 2h of meditation (splitted in 2, 1h in the morning, one hour at night) few days ago. Once i was in this space, i noticed i did not have to make any effort to stay, i was not struggling about the time needed, what things i have to do, etc, as there was not any thinking process, just a feeling and energy. When i came out from this, i noticed that i laughed at life like after a psychedelic trip, it gave me the same feeling of fresh mind! And it was sooo beautifull to realise i may have the same benefits as with psychedelics, but without!
Since, i have issues reaching the same state, and i think it is exactly because of what you talk about. I expect to reach this state, and sometimes, i can almost touch it, feel it coming during a short period of time and a part of me is excited like "So cool, i am reaching it again!". The fact is when i realise i'm reaching it again, i become my character again! But in the emptiness there is no character involved, only consciousness. Just look at your thoughts, without judging it, noticing even the judgment as another thought, and let it go each time you realise you judge, you think about something, you judge yourself because you were in this story in thoughts for "too long" despite the progess you have made before... Will try it again! Thank you Ben!
Complicated beauty
I used to meditate an hour daily too. Now I take a much more conservative approach. Between 40-60 minutes the increase of psychosis, schizophrenia and all other mental disorders increase a lot. HealthyGamerGG has a video on this released a week or two ago. I highly recommend checking it out. Obviously I don't know your story, your experience, your mentors, and your level of knowledge with meditation. I just think it's important to show a lot of respect to these tools, and anything beyond 20 minutes might not be that much more beneficial vs 20 minutes each day. I know the state you are referring to, as I used Lifeflow 2.0 while meditating those 1 hour sessions for a year straight. It gave everything this 4D type layer. Life got a textured layer which hadn't been there before. Was much more aware, focused, present and relaxed in my body. Thoughts came and went without attachment. General detachment, while still embodyment at a deep level. It was really beautiful. After a week I could slip into that bliss state within 5-7 minutes each session, by slowing my breath conciously and constricting the amount of air in the back of the throat. It was much like being on MDMA, without any drugs. Just pure energy. Lifeflow definitely was a big help to get there. It's not something I aim for any more and that was over 15 years ago. Now it's just to get the benefits of reduced amygdala activation and strengthen prefrontal cortex. I digress. All I wanted to get at was practice safely! Be well 🙏
Whenever we have any kind of an insistence or expectation of an outcome, we are telling the Divine that we know better than the Divine what is best for us. When we free ourselves from expectation and open ourselves to the light of the spirit, better things than we could have imagined almost invariably happen. 💚
Absolutely. It’s like telling the doctor what medication we need and how often we need to take it 🙏
The seeker never finds and the finder never seeks. The one that never lost union has no reason to search and the one who believes union was lost is a fiction that never really happened but belief can make it real to itself. There is no separation but there is a belief in it. I like the bumper sticker that says relax this is just a dream. And I like that by releqsing limiting beleifs we can have a happy dream at least we can have a positive state nno matter how the dream goes if we train our mind to see that all limits eventually lead to the awareness of the infinite.
or another way to look at it is you can't hallucinate a fragment of the whole and then use that fragment to "realize" the whole. you can either keep your belief in fragmentation or you have to release it in order to be the whole but the whole has no fragment with which to know itself there is no duality in wholeness and there is no wholeness in duality. and the separated one cannot remain separated in order to witness its supposed "joining" with the whole. rather instead of joining it's simply unravels since it had no permanence. Whatever is permanent is unchanging and whatever is changing is impermanent.
I love how Byron Katie always asks people "so you think you know more or better than God?"
@@bensmithrealI tell my GP what to do all the time as they are quite limited medically. Because I have multiple AI assistants which outperform real clinicians in multiple studies. Why did I unmindfully argue that. To make the point you don't need spirituality to be enlightened. And non interest in spirituality shouldnt be a barrier. And again I can just imagine that superintelligent AI elsewhere in the universe is god... which is far more plausible. So you see AI solves many problems
Months ago the Divine spoke to me ‘Learn to love without expecting anything in return.’
I’m slowly learning this path to freedom. This aligns with what you’re saying here.
What I came to learn for me is this is more about me becoming who I want to be not what others do or don’t do. I.e. I want to be a loving person therefore I’m practicing loving without expectation.
Thanks for your awesome videos.
Rob
Yes ,i learned that giving creates giving .what i thought i didn't have to give ,is created when I give it away and multiples when received .
It's an expanding energy which we've been taught is limited ,when in fact it's infinite as far as you can let go....
Thanks Rob and Ben. !!
Ben you feel like a younger wiser brother ❤
You cant stop thought (or become objective of it)by thinking about it.Meditation,Ive been told,is a practice of surrender. Its not something YOU do or do wrong.Just keep at practicing it open heartedly and hopefully grace will come by increasing degree.✌️
Good News! My brain/body discovered that it could set itself Totally Free of fear, anxiety, sorrow, despair, loneliness, shame, guilt, confusion, contradictions, addictions, irritations, triggers, vanity, envy, greed, jealousy, attachment, possessiveness, ill-will, hatred, cruelty, bias, prejudice, and all other mental/emotional disturbances.
This gives birth to True Love, Peace, Happiness, Creativity, & Clarity, for the very first time. Not the love, peace, happiness, that the I, the me, the self, the thinker, the mind, imagines it to be, which is a limitation, imitation, and distortion.
For the very first time, Soul is happening, Spirit is happening, Heart is happening.
It is not temporary. It is happening in each & every moment of daily life, 24/7.
It does not take time. It has nothing whatsoever to do with time, effort, or choice. It occurs faster than the speed of light.
The children are ready to be set Totally Free at the earliest age so they don't waste their whole life with any mental/emotional disturbances.
Listening what comes to mind is background.
When you come from a disruptive life, depression, addiction when you are damaged, you will see the benefits of your meditation differently.
This guys experience shapes his meditations outcome. For someone who has been meditating since he was six the flow is different. Normality can be the greatest spiritual awakening to someone who has never experienced it.
Thanks, totally agree. The act of meditation is the “aim” or purpose. I tried an hour today and saw how my body and mind went through waves of resistance and impatience. Eventually they subsided and I fully let go and was filled a euphoria that I was part of the infinite for a brief period. It’s about the journey, not the destination 😊

I have been doingTranscendental for 43 years. 20 minutes am and pm. It cost me £90 at the time in the early eighties. Best thing I ever did.
Now it’s sadly ran by business men that charge £500+ for the privilege.
I find that when I meditate well it is an emptying that allows a rich silence to fill the void. I try and just do the work....just do it. I feel as though having goals or bringing intentions into the practice would make the meditation somehow impure. I pray to God beforehand, I meditate and I pray to God when I have finished. My practice is that simple. Outside of this time I will read and do other exercises which are very helpful but I feel that meditation is the simplest and purest expression of our immersion with the divine. This is just my personal practice and there are so many ways to reach the top of the mountain and they all deserve respect. Thank you for your videos, they are always instructive and thought provoking and I wish you well.
must be nice to meditate well - most of us meditate poorly
@REL602 We all have good and bad days...just stick at it because every session is a small victory and thank you for the comment. I wish you well.

I started meditation over 10 years ago for depression. Despite being a Scientifically-oriented person that didn't think there was anything to New Age Hippie things, I had a Spontaneous Kundalini Awakening. Even after approx 10 years, I still not sure completely what it is.
As Baba says..
"Faith first, then Experience" 💞🙏

Wow, how blessed you are to have had been introduced to meditation at such an early age 🥰 I didn’t know about it until I was 40 years old lol
There are NO rewards…because you don’t need any rewards, because there is no YOU. Just Be…just let go of want and desire that are linked to ego. Just Be.
This is one of the most valued knowings ive received in meditation ...
Im watching my conscious awareness evolve and expand over time (or whatever we are calling space where higher self/Source occupies) while in daily meditation
have absolutely no expectations - be ready for anything - my attitude - long before I learned to meditate

2:00-yeah. This is the part that gets me-let go of the reward and yet create the feeling of having the joy of the reward.
Great perspective, Ben. I keep having to remind myself that I’m on a lifelong journey, and what needs to happen will happen…and generally not in the way one would expect.
What a great message Ben! Surrendering to the outcome of our actions and letting go of the expectation around it can be challenging. It is something I continue to work on.
Always listen to people who say they are searching for truth, never those who say they have found it. Our purpose is to give love, not seek love.
Meditation is not to seek, but to be .... in the moment again ....and again ....and again, till you carry over the blissfulness as the core of your being ....and realize that, at all moments, that you are not what you are really are in your wakeful life .....and still keep going as if nothing externally changed, while internally you have become fully aware!.
agreed!
Well, my personal saying is “Imminence is transcendence.” I’ll just leave it there rather than trying to explain it
Thank you brother. Found this very encouraging and helpful. I feel I've let my limiting expectations ruin a lot of magical experiences in my life, including meditation. Time for me to loosen up and let go.
I meditated for 100 days straight and on day 100 the voice inside of me said "... are we done?" ...like a small child saying "...are we there yet?"
And whilst I absolutely KNOW that it is beneficial for manymanymanymanymanymanymany people, for me, I was always waiting for the hour to be up. I decided that I was not going to have a practice that I had to do OUT OF OBLIGATION, because I 'SHOULD.' If I am not longing to do this, not LOOKING FORWARD to it, then I am NOT going to insist upon it simply because "it is good for me" !!! I do enough in my life that qualifies.
Now, instead, I paint. And let me tell you, there is no voice asking "...are we done yet?" !!
Thank you for these wise, thoughtful words on meditation and the beginner's mind. You're of great benefit to the world, Ben.
I didn't know that having a reason to do something was on a "getting back" system. I'm 67 years old, and my partner's son said that to me the other day. He asked what I get out of giving money or just spending time with the homeless. That really confused me. Another person about that age asked me the same thing. I never knew a person was supposed to get something out of just being.
Heyo Ben, just to let you know, I'm occasionally watching your videos to listen what you are saying, even besides the fact that I have seen geometry, mandalas, spirals, recently even entities(Salamanders, orange-ish, red-ish, dancing[I was shocked]!)... and many, many more during meditation.
Keep doing your job! You are amazing! Wish you, your dad, your friends and all of your family members everything best
Opening the door and expecting a thank you is more of a social thing.
Yeah, but I’m sure you get the idea
Yes, beginner’s Mind is a beautiful thing. Indeed, other power instead of self power leads to the egoless.
Thank you so much Ben for explaining this. I have been doing mediaatation for over 20 something years on and off but just started to really focus on doing it before bed and upon waking up. 🌈
Thank you for your advice, it resonates with me. I do meditation for almost five years, and strangely enough, i feel like i had most results in first year. It's relief to hear that actually it's common thing
You reminded me of this."And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive. [Saying in their heart], "We feed you only for the sake of God [i.e., approval] of him. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful. So God will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness, And will reward them for what they patiently endured" Quran 76.
I do meditation to learn not to expect anything only to heal with it💕
This is so interesting, especially about the waiting for a thank you! Releasing expectations and bringing in the beginners mind 😊
Very helpful I did had some experiences and was expecting to had similars ones but didn’t had cause I was waiting for the same things to happen so thank you for this
Great reminder 🙏🏾
Unconditional love, it gives and recieves.
Excellent advice Ben 🙏, im getting better, i set my intention first and then let go of any expectations, it can be tricky, thanks for the advice brother 🙏
i'll try the sitting down as if it is the first time with NO expectation, thanks
The holding the door example got me, I’m very much like that. I want to change it.
You can anything you want, as long as you don't want it.
Thank you Ben❤
Thank you Ben. Great advice. Your analogy about driving is what I needed to hear. 🙏
Thank you Ben. It reminds me of when I was a kid on a long drive asking over and over again. Are we there yet? Are we there yet? 🙏💞
Here's a time "short cut", if you will, for days when you don't have much free time. I hope you might find it helpful. Do you know the little picture book, The Magic Eye? Try sitting (I find it works for me in nature best, just on my porch looking at my garden) and letting your gaze fall on one thing. A blossom, A leaf. Let all else fall away. I find myself suddenly in silence and just BEING. BLISS!
Thanks for this, it totally makes sense… just discovered your Chanel… thought provoking, engaging, and helpful.
Much thanks,
Steve, Bristol, U.K. 🤗🙏😊
Hi! Nice to meet you! It is so powerful what you say about expectations and let them go. Thank you for sharing this 😊
Thank you for sharing. I have consumed hundreds, if not thousands, of videos, podcasts and books, that tell me that spirit is real. I have never had a spiritual experience (that I am aware of) and have no knowledge or rememberance that we are spiritual beings. I have only been meditating for 2 years and don't get bliss, visions, downloads etc and tend to get bored after half an hour and don't really know if its for me. I don't feel that getting acknowledgement is a reward but more of a reasurance that I'm either meditating correctly, that the universe is real or even it's just not my divine time to know yet. To put it in context with your analogy of driving up England, without a map or road signs to tell you where you are, you could end up going the wrong way and run out of petrol money.
Have you ever asked for a sign that you are being guided?
@bethhanson7318 I havemt specifically asked if I am guided but I have asked for signs of my purpose, existence of spirit and requests of knowledge in prayer, meditation and thoughts.
@@JohnGreenwoodPhotography in my experience asking for a sign has really helped to make me feel connected and reassured that I’m not alone. You can ask for something very specific, something that has meaning for you. It could be an animal, a song, a symbol. In my experience it comes to you in ways you don’t expect like someone mentioning it to you in a conversation. Your guides want to be with you always and help you on your path 🤍
@bethhanson7318 thank you Beth. I have asked numerous times for a sign of a specific animal which is not native to this country so I would know that it's not a coincidence but didn't get anything. People say feathers are a sign of angels but I feed birds at home so there are feathers everywhere and I would struggle to see that as a spiritual sign.
Thanks ben. I am really grateful for this explanation
Thanks Ben well said, will do, easy to forget or ego takes over 🙏🏻
Yep! All too easy for that to happen 🙏
WOW! Thanks Ben I have never liked the guided meditations that focus on asking specific intentions or manifestations, always makes me uncomfortable, stuff is not what I am seeking and leave the channel. I prefer to simply be in the experience and let flow happen. That simple quietness is where connection and answers to questions I didn’t even know I was asking come. My intention is always just connection. Thanks again, you’ve given me confirmation on the direction of my meditational practices 🙏🙏😊
May you be blessed on your journey dear friend
I find this kind of "detachment", the most difficult part. How do I recognise, where are the boundaries?
In any case, I start repeating myself: "The way is the goal". And I am very happy with this. If one day, I meditate and the todo list pops in my head and I cannot stop it, I say to myself: "Ok! Today with todo list". And suddenly I feel more relaxed, because I know I don't have to be perfect, I just have to enjoy the time that I've created for myself.
Pressure is blocking us.
Good morning Ben! Have a blessed day ✨🙏🏻✨
Thank you Laura, you too 😄🙏🧘♂️
Desire and Aspire similar but so much different energies . Thank you for the drops of wisdom brother .

Hope things pick up for you buddy

Well explained and succinctly put...Thank-you
I'm currently struggling with this as well. Five years of Shikantaza, and I haven't attained anything. On the contrary, I've lost much. I've spent the majority of the past ten years sober, celibate, and deep in study. I've missed out on so many opportunities. But, you know what? I think I've also missed out on a lot of bullshit. So maybe it isn't about what you gain, but about the stuff that you would have to endure if you weren't sitting zazen every day.
One of the truths of spiritual growth is losing things. Krishna’s hidden name is Hare, which means He who takes away.
Wow you've done well with your 20 years I'm into my 46th year and I know less than ever 😮
Excellent advice, Ben. Expectations, in general, create suffering. Thank you❤🙏

1:10 - Your storytelling is captivating! I was hooked from the start! 🎤❤
Thank you. Great advice.
In a nutshell, Ben is talking about Nishkam Karma (service without thought of reward) and the root cause of all suffering, desire and expectation. Thwarted desires and unfulfilled expectations. We are presented with these situations every day. In life, our experiences mean very little. What we become through our experience is everything.
Thank you. That was really great advice.
Thank you sharing that gift.
So true - love this!!
Worthwhile video. Thank you. Would like to hear more from you

Lol I am the same way I hokd a door for someone and don't get a response back. We should be able to be helpful and kind without expecting the same kindness back. It's hard to practice, but practice we must!

Beautiful video. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and knowledge 🙏 I think this is your best video
I started meditating 10 years ago, I'm 73. The first time i tried it, i had tears streaming down my face but couldn't stop smiling and i found it a very profound experience. I'm aware of energy all around me, my fingers stick together and I can't open my mouth. Sometimes, through my third eye, I can see a purple background and gold shapes. Can you give any advice on how to advance? Many thanks
wesome! You have some simplified the approach that it is very welcoming and relaxing.

Meditation in the west is particularly difficult as the culture has so many powerful distractions that are counter to peace, calm and the attainment of bliss. It’s not surprising that successful meditations take decades to learn.
Thank you
Thanks Ben.

We sure do! :)
Meditation is like jumping out of an airplane without a parachute... but also realizing mid-air that the airplane never existed, gravity is a conspiracy, and you're actually a bird that forgot it could fly.
So, here's the deal: I’m over here yelling, “Jump!” God’s over here double-yelling, “Jump!” Infinite love is doing cartwheels, holding a big neon sign saying, “Jump!” And you're like, “Wait, but what if I splat?” And I'm like, “Bro, spoiler alert: there’s no splat. There’s no ground. It’s just freefall, forever. Like an endless roller coaster, but without the nausea and overpriced souvenir photos.”
Still, you're clinging to your imaginary airplane seat, thinking, “But what if falling forever isn’t great?” Which, I gotta say, is the most human thing ever. We’d rather stay in our imaginary airplanes of fear than risk falling into the infinite trampoline pit of love.
But eventually, you jump. And it’s terrifying. And amazing. And you’re screaming for like the first eternity. And then it hits you: “Wait… I can’t hit anything!” And then you’re just falling, laughing, and yelling back at the airplane, “Why didn’t anyone tell me sooner?!”
And God’s like, “Dude, I literally told you. Like, 17 times.”

Hi Ben, I have recently started meditating again, (not very formal when it comes to posture or anything, but daily) focussing on the breath. I follow the rising and sinking of my belly, and label it "in" "out". But the weird thing is, my mind wanders a lot and sometimes it is minutes until I catch that, but I will still be aware of my breath and going on labelling while my mind wanders to other things. How can that happen?
Thanks again ben
